Just wondering which brand of boxed cake mix most of you prefer. I know from scratch is best but I'm not a good baker and don't have a lot of time.

You'll find that most decorator who use cake mixes rely on Duncan Hines. A trick often used to make white cakes lighter is to add an extra egg white. You also have to avoid over mixing. It can cause cakes to crumble. Good luck!

I read on MMP to: add 1 tbsp (up to 1/3 cup) of fat-free sour cream to your cake batter. It will be moist, light, & wonderful. This works on all flavors, brands, store-bought mixes, & homemade recipes.
I believe it was Sue H. who posted this and it works! I've tried it.

Duncan Hines. If you like a denser, richer taste, add 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup. No kidding! It really makes a difference.

Make your own frosting (wicked easy) and no one will know the difference.

I have started making cakes and I like the one that already includes pudding in the mix. I have heard that adding your own pudding makes the cake more moist, but there is a boxed brand that already has the pudding mix in there. I know it is not Duncan Hines...I am pretty sure it is Pillsbury (blue box) but it might be Betty Crocker.

I think Duncan Hines is good too.

Duncan Hines is definitely the best. I am a true cake lover and have done taste tests with Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and Pillsbury. Duncan Hines wins every time.
The classic yellow is great if you want a yellow cake. My personal favorite is the Marble Cake.

My absolute favorite is Pillsbury White cake mix made with no yolks. It comes out so fresh and spongy and moist. I get compliments always!

I really like the Trader Joe's boxed cake mix and the Cherrybrook Kitchen brand mix (I find this at Whole Foods). Both taste great because the ingredients are real. :)

I like the ones from Trader Joes, though the selection is limited, the flavor/moistness is really good.

They are all so close to each other, it might just be that you can find a specific flavor in one brand that is not available in an other. With that said, we always get Duncan Hines because the majority of their flavors do not have milk in them, and my son has a milk protein allergy.
