Best Bib on the market--Any Ideas?

I'm in search of the "perfect" bib or at least better than the ones I've found. Do any of you moms out there have a brand that you really love and recommend? My daughter is only 3 1/2 months so mostly I'm looking for a bib for while she's drinking from her bottle. The biggest issues I have are needing more absorbency and trying to protect her neck creases. I'm open to bib choices for drooling and feeding too for future use :) Thanks so much, K.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the great ideas, opinions, and recommendations! The bibs we've liked the best so far are the short cotton Silly Billyz. They work well for bottle feeding and for drooling as they are shorter and don't get in her way as much. Also, they have a plastic snap (over the shoulder area) instead of velcro, so when she falls asleep we don't wake her up trying to remove the bib. I did discover that finding a better bottle (we now use the Dexbaby Milk Bank bottles with a triple venting system LOL) caused less dripping and spit-up and made the bib less of an issue.

Now that our daughter has started semi-solid food we will be trying some of your suggestions for food bibs. Thanks again for all the great advice!

I purchased a couple of the Bumpkins waterproof Superbibs and junior bibs off of Amazon and am extremely impressed with them--they are soft yet waterproof and so easy to wipe clean or machine wash!

I've had the most luck with the ones that are terry cloth on one side and plastic on the back. The wet doesn't soak through. They were a gift but I don't think they were very expensive because they weren't a designer brand.

My twins were premature and in the NICU for a few weeks and the nurses always just used wash clothes at that age. I continued that when I got them home and love it. You can put it under the chin/neck and use it to clean up. Easy to wash too. When they got a bit older, I would use a bib around their neck and use the wash cloth as well.

My sister use to take dish towels and cut a hole in it (big enough for the head to fit through) and put elastic around it and used that as bibs...I never got around to making mine, but thought it was a great idea.

As they got older and were feeding themselves I used the plastic ones that you can snap at the bottom to make a pouch to catch all the food...they were great. Helps keep the floor clean and easy to clean. Either just wipe them off or throw them in the washing machine.

I really like the I Play bibs(Amazon.com). I got the Stage 4, which are for older kids, but with my sons, I just tied a little knot in the back and then velcroed them(they could not get it off). They are water-resistant. Can be washed in the sink and dry really quickly (especially if you dry with a towel and hang for a few minutes.) I always keep one at the bottom of my purse for when we're out and about.

Hi, without a doubt these were our favorite as they are absorbent but didn't leak through:

http://www.sillybillyzusa.com/sb_site/index.html

We got the regular fleece kind and they worked really well early on to keep her clothes dry underneath and to protect her neck. We wanted something that absorbed moisture and didn't just repel it. We've given them as gifts many times since because we felt they did the best job. And she actually still uses the one with long sleeves 3 years later for really messy moments!

They didn't used to have the cotton fleece ones so I can't speak to their effectiveness as we only bought the regular fleece ones.

Congrats on your new little girl!

If you want a bib that is both functional and fashionable, then you should check out the Bib-A-Roo by L'il Darlins, LLC. Perfect in small size for infants and large size for toddlers--covers them from their chin to their shins! www.bibaroo.com.

If you have access to an Ikea store or can order from them online, I've found a set of two cover-all type of bibs that we love. They are great for when the child begins eating solids and sits at a table. They are a polyester type of material, lightweight and somewhat liquid resistant. I believe I paid $3.99 for the pack of two. I rinse them off at the sink after a meal and hang them over the shower curtain rod to dry so they are ready for the next meal. Then about once a week they go through a wash in the machine, and I air dry them. I don't think drying in the machine would harm them but they dry so quickly and easily otherwise that I just feel better doing it that way.

It sounds crazy because I have bought and received all different kinds of bibs from my baby shower from Carters to cheapies to Babies R Us brands. The best bib that I found for my baby's absorbency needs were the Parent's Choice terry cloth bibs from Walmart. They are thick but soft and really protect his neck and clothes from liquid soaking through. If you have a Walmart near you I would try them out. Gerbers bibs that have waterproof shield are pretty good too.

I am in love with a bib a friend turned me on to. I believe they are the Carter's 'drool bibs'. The great thing about it is that in between two layers of terry fabric is a waterproofing material, but it's not 'crinkly' sounding like many others. (It's similar to some of the burp cloths/bed liner we've bought at babies r us.) Now that my baby is eating solids, I also love the Bumkins bibs w/ a pocket for catching all the drops. I just put it on during meals (over existing drool bib ;) and rinse it off after and it's dry the next time I need it. Have fun and congrats on your new bundle!

When my son was younger I loved the cheap ones at Target that have terry cloth on the front and waterproof backing. They come in packs of like 6. This was perfect for when he drank his bottle and when he started drooling a lot. I had a hard time finding ones that were really waterproof. Now, my son is almost 2 and I like the Bumpkins bibs that you can get at Target or Babies R Us. They have a wider area around the shoulders so when they turn their heads while they eat, their shirt doesn't get dirty. :)

I like the over the head bibs or they have a thin waterproof bibs at Babies R Us that have a pouch to catch food or liquid. They are a comfortable plastic that you can wash in the washing machine.

Hi Karen-
THe one thing I have learned from my nephew is that the bigger the bib, the better. Whether it be a bottle, solids, etc. My sister buys cloth bibs that slide over the head. They are large and rectangular and the opening is stretchy so it stays on.
The baby actually spit his food back at me last week which was funny except for the fact that carrots stain and I had green veggies in my eyelashes and hair....but the bib has saved his clothing from bottle feeding through solids. Let me see if I can find a link for you: Here is a link to Amazon just so that you can see what they look like. Babies R Us carries them for sure, and the online supply is not the same as the in store supply- just different designs.
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss__0_12?url=search-alias...
I hope that helps! My sister swears by them- and a pack of baby wipes!

Hi K.,

I didn't really use a bib until my babies were a little older. I used plain white cloth diapers for feedings. You can "sneak" the cloth right into your daughter's neckline to eliminate the milk getting into her secret crevices :O)

I also used these cloths to "prop" the bottle so I had moments of "hands-free" feedings :O)

Congratulations on your new baby!

I just received a baby magazine and in it there is an article about cute gear for feeding time (for when your baby is older). They recommend a bib by Just Buzzin' By. They don't say where you can buy it but if you look up the company name online I bet you'll find it. The cost is a little high at $22 but may be worth it since it's made of the easy-wipe plastic and will probably last you until she no longer needs a bib. Good luck!

Flat cotton cloth diapers are the best for this purpose. They are super absorbent. You can tuck one folded under the chin. After feeding, you can drape the diaper over your shoulder for the drooliest of babies...

it's been a loooong time since my girls used bibs, but one thing I remember doing was layering a cotton towel-ish bib on top of a more water-resistant one (plastic or whatever) - that way the cottony one absorbs the drips and the plasticky one reduces the amount of sogginess that gets on to the clothes

I don't have any good recomendations for this age, but when your daughter is older and needs a good bib for all that messy self feeding you will want to make a trip to IKEA. They have a nylon bib with long sleves and a lap pocket. They come 2 to a pack and run about $4. They rinse clean easily and only take about 10 minutes to hang dry on a towel rack.

I like these bibs that were sent to me from my cousin in NY. They were invented by a local mom and are called Bellie Bibs. They have a flap that tucks into the collar of your child's onsie or shirt and are very absorbent. Check them out at http://www.fancypantswebsite.com/newstuff.html

When my daughter was little, I really liked the Carter's bibs that were cloth or terrycloth on the front and lined with a plastic-vinyl-waterproof layer on the back. Not all Carter's bibs have the waterproof lining, so you have to look at each one. They seemed to work well for drool. When she was actually drinking, I'd also tuck a thick flannel drool/burp cloth under her chin to help with extra spillage. For when your daughter starts to eat solids, our FAVORITE bibs ever are Bumkins waterproof superbibs and junior bibs. (They're on Amazon.) They're lightweight, more clothlike than the heavy vinyl ones, but totally waterproof and have an awesome pocket for catching spills/crumbs. And you can either wipe clean or machine wash. We've been using them for 3 years and have no complaints. Hope that helps!
