What kind (brand/model?) of baby monitor do you use and how well do you like it?

We have a standard one that cost around $40 and it is so staticy and crappy - I hate it. There's always a static sound and flashing red lights even when the child is silent. Want to get a new one since I know we will use it for future children as well. I have always wanted to have a video monitor one but mostly want it to be nice and quiet when there's no crying going on :) Any recommendations?

Also - what do you do when you have 2 kids you want to be monitoring at once....do they make something for this or do I just use two different monitors?

What can I do next?

i always wanted a video too...will get one for next baby. We had the Sony Babycall, and it's awesome. has voice activate feature, so you can have NO noise until baby makes some. the battery is still great after 4+ years. i have been amazed at how well this still works. rarely, you have to move to a different area in the room for bad frequency or something. i think you can buy two of them, and put them on the same channel, so you only have to carry one handset, but a babies r us person might be able to tell you this for sure.

We used to have a Summer Infant Slim and Secure Color Video Monitor. We LOVED it (until an airline "lost" it). There was an option to buy a second camera and the video can toggle back and forth (you can actually monitor up to 4 at a time). Now we use a Sony BabyCall. It is a regular audio monitor. It works fine. I think that I would have no problem with it if it were the first monitor I ever used, but I feel like I was spoiled with the video monitor.

We have 3 kids and have 2 different brands of monitor.

1) Mobi video - PIECE OF JUNK! If I hadn't lost the receipt I would have returned it to Babies r Us right away. We have used it only a few times, but it cost us a pretty penny

2) Summer video - FANTASTIC! Ours is nearly 5 yrs old right now, so it is not as good as it used to be, but it was great. It has 2 channels, A & B, so you can set up 2 cameras in different rooms to monitor both rooms. You can turn the sound off and just watch for the lights to come on if there is noise. I absolutely loved having it, especially in the winter time when I'd go clear snow in the morning before the baby work, and I could have the monitor with me in my pocket so I could keep checking in case he woke up. I think it was about $175
