Belly Button at 8 Months Pregnant

I am in my 33rd week and am having weird 'sensations' and numbness outside/around my bellybutton. It was an 'innie' now looks like the end of a hotdog (says the hubby). I just tried putting cocoa butter lotion on it but it still feels really weird. Is this normal? I hate to call the oncall OB for something that seems so trivial, eventhough that is what they are paid to do. It is annoying and uncomfortable.... anyone else have/had this?

What can I do next?

Hi Christina,

I had the same thing when I was pregnant last spring. I had a partial outie which became just part of my stomach. For some reason the idea of it stretching into my stomach just made me nauseous and I swore it felt weird. I think I did bring it up to my doctor and they must have said that it wa normal because I did stop worrying about it. I think it was just the sensation that I felt like I was going to burst and my belly button was the cork:) that bothered me so much. Just ask your Dr at your next appt or call the nurse to reassure yourself.
I'm glad you said something, I thought I was the only one that went through that. Good luck!

i agree, you should probably call the doctor because of the numbness. my belly button started to pop out towards the end of my pregnancy, but it never felt numb.

Hi. When I was pregnant, both times, my belly button felt really weird at times. Sometimes it would feel tingly, sometimes it would feel hot. Mine was a partial "outie" before the pregnancy and by the end of the pregnancy it was a complete outie. Sometimes it even hurt to touch it. Both of my pregnancies were fine and I think the weird feelings were just all the stretching. BUT, call your doctor just in case. Also, don't be afraid to call your doctor about ANYTHING. They are used to a lot of calls from expecting moms. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, but can also be very scary. God bless.

Hi Christina,
I can't say whether to worry or not,m as I never had that experience, but your body is adjusting to some major changes that are taking place. The skin is stretching where it may not have stretched before, hense the sensation of teh numbness and the nerve endings not knowing what is what.

I know a person who actually has a herniated belly button, where it is a full fledged outtie, not pregnant mind you....and it is sore to the touch. So if you are worried abotu that or anything else, don't be afraid to ask questions. It might seem like a dumb question, but I have some to realize there are no dumb questions.
Good luck and take care

I would not worry too much. I had numbness a little and weird feelings in my belly button too (became an outie, all that stuff). I had a c-section and still have a weird sensation in where the incision was. All a part of being pregnant!! I think that your body is stretching and it will be ok after. My belly button went back in and feels normal again.

T. :)
