Bedtime Routine for 2 Year Old

We are about to switch my 27 month old to a "big girl" bed so it seems like a good time to change her bedtime routine, which is driving me nuts! Ever since she was very tiny, our bedtime routine consists of a bath, reading two books, singing a few songs and then putting her in her bed. The song part is the problem. As she has gotten older, she proscrastinates bedtime by asking for more and more songs. I resolved that by having set naptime songs and bedtime songs that I would sing, so if she asked for other songs I would say "these are our bedtime songs." She seems completely disinterested in the songs and wiggles and talks the whole time I'm singing, but gets upset if we skip the songs. Any suggestions or input on what bedtime routine works for you would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Oh they are smart little cookies, aren't they? Here's what we do: early bath, 15-30 minutes of a movie/show, then we go to his room, say prayers, and thats it.

Maybe you could get her bath done a little early and replace singing with something else, say tv or a few more minutes of play time. They understand more than we give them credit for, and I bet she will agree to give up the singing. Maybe stickers on a chart or something then a prize at the end of the week for going to bed easily each night.

I know my son will drag bedtime out as long as he possibly can, so we just have to be firm and not give in (which is so hard when they want one more hug...kiss...drink...)

Good luck to you.

Maybe try singing during bath time. That way she gets her songs but it doesn't delay bed time and you might have more of her undivided attention in the bath.

We have a simliar routine to Gail! Eat dinner, bath, snuggle time with daddy and mommy, say our prayers and into bed we go. At first it was a little difficult for her but after a week....it got easier. Now, she knows she is tired and she asks to go say her prayers!! It works!

Hello,
we went through a similar change. We kept the routine the same when we changed beds, bath reading and song. After the one song, hug and kiss, then turned a CD player on with good night songs on and they fell asleep to that. Eventually we no longer used the CD player, but it worked for us.
