Hi! I am expecting twins, a boy and a girl, in July. I thought I had their bedroom all figured out, but now I am not sure. We are planning on them sharing a room until they are ready to be out of toddler beds. We have a 3 year old daughter and we figured the girl will eventually move in with her and the boy would stay in their bedroom. I had found similar pink and blue sheets, comforter, decorations etc. but am not sure what to paint the walls. They are just white now. Then I thought I should go with yellow or green. Just not sure. My older daughter's room is purple and we had purple/lavendar in her room since she was born. I thought about going with purple again for this girl, but kind of wanted them to have different things since they are different kids. I don't think I am a very good decorator so any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the great ideas. I like the brown walls idea and then accent with pink and blue, or finding green and accenting with the other colors too. I didn't think of that. I also appreciate the twin advice and room sharing. Thanks!

Congrats on the twins! I would paint the walls a neutral brown shade. My sons room has a chocolate brown walls which looks so good with the white crib. The other three walls are a color by benjamin moore called rope.. very nuetral. I personally don't like "themes" for rooms so I would play up the colors. I have a friend who has boy/girl twins and she got these beautiful customized wall decals with each of their names at etsy.com. You can customize.

You could also do a green/white stripe.. that would be very gender neutral. You might need to change the blue/pink color. Pottery barn has good inspiration! Good luck.

Paint them brown. Pink and brown and blue and brown go great together. My little girl's room is brown and all the accents are pink. It may seem like an odd, dull color for baby's room, but it's neutral and will match the blue and pink. Congrats on the twins, enjoy!

Well my girl and boy were not twins but they were two years apart and shared a room (first twin beds, then bunk beds) until they were four and six years old. It was GREAT!!! They were best buddies. Kids don't care about "blue, pink, etc" until they are older. Sure, my daughter had Barbies and baby dolls all over the floor, but my son had dinosaurs and Legos as well. I kept the wall color neutral, they had their bookcase between them, and the stuff on the wall was not gender specific (pix from their favorite books and TV shows, Sesame St, Dragon Tales, Aurthur, Blues Clues, etc.) Their bedding however, WAS gender specific: my daughter had a Little Mermaid sheet set and my son had Star Wars, their choice. The only reason they split up was because we moved to a bigger house, but my guess is they could've likely shared a room for at least another 3 or 4 years :) oh and p.s. I also have another daughter, and let me tell you that girls are NOT great at sharing rooms, unless that is your only option I would suggest keeping your youngest with her brother for as long as possible, age matters MUCH more than gender :)

How about 2 blue wall and 2 pink walls that match the decorations?

What about painting the walls green (but not a baby green so your son can grow into it), and using yellow or orange bedding for both babies? It wouldn't be very gender specific, but would be just adorable. You could also paint the walls orange (I've seen it done and it looks so cool), and use green and yellow bedding (green for your son and yellow for your daughter). Again, it would keep away the pinks and the blues, yet still be something fun! If you really want pink and blue, paint the walls beige, off-white, gray, or something similar so you don't get that Easter basket look. Hope this helps and congrats!

When I had my b/g twins, I already had two kids, and not enough extra bedrooms, so we didn't go big into decorating. And that isn't my "thing" anyways. But one suggestion, SEMI GLOSS.

What about Mickey and Minnie Mouse? That would easily translate into a boys room once they are older. My daughter, who is almost 2 has Mickey and Minnie for her bedroom set. We found it at Disney.com. The colors are pretty neutral so it works for either boys or girls. Hope that helps.

Pink, yellow, & blue will look like easter. (Or at least has the strong potential to look like easter, if you aren't careful.)

Use pottery barn kids catalog for inspiration. They have great ideas for boy girl rooms.

I didn't find out the sex of my first baby so the walls were a beautiful green/yellow apple color. The wall decorations and valence were nursery rhyme theme. It was really hard to find nursery rhyme themes back then but it seemed like a year or so after it was every where so it shouldn't be too hard to find. You could do her side with girly rhymes (mary mary quite contrary) and his side with boy rhymes (little jack horner).

Have you thought about yellow and using the peel-and-stick wall decors in a bug theme? My dd's room had a bug theme in it with butterflies, ladybugs, grasshoppers, and an outdoor theme (grass, sky, etc). This would allow for the room to be easily altered as they get older.

We painted the walls yellow in our boy/girl twins room. I bought quilts /sheets from pottery barn that are blue,green,yellow/pink,green,yellow.They didn't use the quilts until they were almost two though. We accented with blue and pink not permanent things like lamps, baskets, hamper, etc. We also used alot of white accents. I figure when we move our son to his own room we will want to paint again anyway. They are now 4 and still want to be in the same room:) Good luck!

I had triplets and was hoping to get both boy(s) and girl(s) so I could use my cute decorating idea. In the end, I had all boys, but here's my idea: Princess and the Frog Prince. I was going to paint the walls a soothing green. Above the girl's crib I would paint a crown. Above the boy's bed, a frog or frog with a crown. Accent the boy side with yellow and green. The girl side with pink and yellow.

Have fun, and good luck!

Does it really matter until they are old enough to notice? I'm sure they won't care what colour the room is , but if you really want the room decorated then how about a nutrual colour on the walls (off white for example) and then use accesories to brighten the place up , things that are boy/girl , like a picture that has a tractor on for the boy and one with a butterfly for the girl , you could also put them on either side of the room so the boys half is boyish and the girls half girly.
