My son is going to 5 in Feb and he still wets the bed rom time to time when i do not put Pull-Ups on @ nite. I'm not sure but I think @ this point he shouldnt have to wear Pull_Ups to bed so what can I do so that he doesnt wet the bed anymore? I was thinking about waking him up in the middle of the nite to go to the bathroom but then I'm afraid he wont go back to sleep! HeLp!

What can I do next?

It is not unusual for him to be wetting the bed sometimes at his age. Look at how old the kids are in the pullup comercials. I had a brother that wet the bed until 11 or 12.

My disabled son wet the bed until his early 20s, and I was told he would not be able to be broken, but he was. What I did was stop liquids 2 hours before bedtime and made sure he urinated (and did not just go into the bathroom and do nothing) right before bedtime. For a while I would go into his room and just ask him if he needed to go just before I went to bed. He and his bladder caught on after a while. He may have an accident about once a year, but that is it!!

I never scolded him. I just made him strip the bed, wash the sheets (with help), wipe down the cover, and remake the bed (a good learning experience - he is now a pro at making beds). I think his subconscious told him to hold it so he would not have to do all that work! lol

Just give it time, patience, and restrict liquids and he will get it when he and his bladder are ready.

Hi N.,
I personally think that it's more important for you and your son to get a good night sleep.

There is nothing wrong in using pull ups if he is not developmentally ready.

Remeber that usually it takes boys a little longer to master "bathroom issues" and probably he already feels bad when he wets his bed. His self-esteem is more important....he will eventually stop wetting the bed. Be patient!

I did try the waking up on a schedule, the pull-ups, stopped liquid intake at 6pm, pull-ups, etc I did it all and from experience I can only tell you that Patience conquers all. Hang in there!

Some kids just have problems with bed wetting. My Stepdaughter in Jamaica did it until she was about 5 or 6. First off, don't give him and liquids about an hour before bed. Have him go to the bathroom right before he lays down, and then for now, just put the pull up on him. You can also get a plastic mattress protector, so incase he does wet the bed your mattress is saved, and you are not scrubbing the bed at 3am. He probably feels like the pull up is a security blanket. Number two, don't scold him for wetting the bed, sometimes they can't prevent it. I hope this helps, it seemed to work for my son.
