Try the pennysaver or there are rescue group for all most every breed. You need a big FENCED yard. Once a beagle put their nose to ground they are in another whole and no amount of training will get them back until they are ready. I love them, don't get me wrong. They just need to be in a secure location or way out in the country.

Try
http://www.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?pet.Animal=Dog...

Petfinder.com

It lets you enter your desired pet's breed, age, sex, etc and your zip code.

I found Beagles all over the LA County and Simi Valley!

Please adopt!!!

I just have to echo the advice about adopting one! I've adopted three dogs, and they are the best dogs I could ever ask for! It's like they know you saved them and are that much more loyal. I don't think you'll regret the decision to adopt and save a pet! As others mentioned, be sure you take the time to really consider the needs of your household - energy level, maintenance (short/long hair - different grooming needs), allergies, other animals that may be present, how long the dog will be home alone, etc. If you'll be gone for long periods of time during the day, I'd recommend looking for a more mature dog that will have fewer needs initially as puppies require even that much more attention and maintenance. I highly recommend allowing the dog to be indoors with you as a true member of your family! You'll get so much more out of them and it's so much better for the dog.

Best of luck to you!
A.

Hi Rochelle,
A few years ago, we were in the Long Beach Animal Shelter in El Dorado park, and they had one beagle at that time. Most of the dogs were Rottweilers or pit bulls, but you never know. Your local shelter may have a beagle.

Good luck, you've gotten some great resources from the other people below. We ended up getting a male and a female beagle from a guy who works at the same company as my husband. He owned a female beagle and his neighbor had a male, and they bred the dogs.

Really spend some time getting to know the dog. I can say both their personalities have pretty much stayed the same as when we first saw them when they were six weeks old (they are 5 1/2 years old now).

Where are you located? A friend of ours in Mira Loma has 2 beagles he is trying to find homes for. One is more of a puppy the other an adult. Not sure about the sex of either one. If you are interested - email me at ____@____.com Loma is on the 15 between the 91 and the 60.

Rochelle,

Try craigslist.com They aren't supposed to "sell" pets, but may charge a "rehoming" fee. There are SO many pets available on this site!!! And in this economy with so many people forced to move from their homes, and apartments not taking pets (or charging astronomical fees) many owners will give up a loving pet for free to a loving home.
Good luck!

Last weekend my kids and I delivered homemade dog treats to our local shelter. We were saddened by the number of dogs at the facility. You may want to go check out your local shelters and see if there are any dogs there that you like.

You may find one that you love even more than a beagle (I have nothing against Beagles, I just mean you may find a dog that you love that doesn't match what you think you want! :)

Try to find out if there is a Beagle rescue in your area. You might find it online. My friend listed her dog on Craigslist and someone called within an hour, and came and got her 2 hours later. Happy ending for everyone.

Check your local Craig's List "Pets" section. Also, of course, papers, pet stores and your local animal shelters.

Rochelle,
Here is a list of southern california breeders: http://www.socalbeagle.org/brdrlst.htm
Here is another list of available dogs now: http://www.beaglesandbuddies.com/index.php3?topic=adoptme
Read up about Beagles and make sure you really want one. Even though Beagles are very friendly and excellent family dogs, there are certain aspects about this breed that some owners don’t find so charming, and why many Beagles are given up to rescues. http://www.beaglesavvy.com/
I don't know if you have kids or not, but a few years ago I did a lot of research before picking out our dog and decided that a miniature schnauzer was the way to go. It was by far the BEST choice I ever made. He is EXCELLENT with the kids, plays with our other dog, a real CUDDLER, and doesn't shed. Good luck!
