My husband and I will be taking our duaghter with us on an 8 day trip to the Mayan Riviera this August. Although we have traveled with her before, it have never been to Mexicio or the beach. We will be staying at an all includsive resort, and have been there multiple time before, so I know what to expect when we get there. We usaully go on an excursion or two, but I anticipate we will not be leaving the resort this trip. What I do not know is what to take with me for a 16 month old. Any suggestions would be appreciated. i.e. safety devices for the water, to wear or not to wear Huggies Swimmers, etc. Thanks for the help!!!

What can I do next?

Everyone has some great advice. I just wanted to add my 2 cents.
Don't use that sunscreen in the pink bottle...Coppertone for babies? It's around 55 or 60+. It burns their skin, & it will wash into their eyes. I've been putting it on my son for the past 2 years, & I finally tried it myself. It was awful!!! No wonder my son fussed!!

I've been getting the Aveeno brand...the lotion & the spray. Oh, those are much better! It goes up to 55 spf.

Just be careful about what you let her eat. I wouldn't venture away from the resort at all and still be picky on what to give her there. I got so sick in Mexico and very scared to take my little one for the same reason.
You might call you pediatrician and see if there are any preventive measures or immune boosting vitamins to give before taking off.
Have fun and Be safe

I just wanted to add that with a toddler her age, it might be a good idea to get some sort of "leash" (for lack of a better word) for those times that she wants to walk around. There will be lots to look at for all of you, and it might make you feel better. We plan on getting the dog or monkey backpack that walmart sells, that attaches to the child with a buckle across the chest, and then the tail of the animal becomes the strap for you to hold on to them. Also, be sure to take a few toys and books, but I have found that I tend to over do it sometimes, and will try to pack lighter. A big favorite is the small magnadoodle! I would for sure get her some comfortable water/sand shoes, as it can be great to feel the sand in your toes, but not the shells etc that we may know to watch out for ourselves. I really think the ones at childrens place look the best. Also, be sure you have a small first aid kit with cute bandaids, and neosporin etc. I also pack motrin, and for sure benadryl...you never know when they will have an allergic reaction to something. Especially if there is a chance she could get stung by a jelly fish. I have never used the cloth swim diapers, I dont really want to have to wash out or carry around a soiled "diaper", but I have also never had a problem with swim diapers keeping "things in". Ohh, one final thing, I would for sure have a cute water bottle, or straw type sippy cup to keep her hydrated. Hmm that is it for now, I will be taking my 13 month old to the beach soon, so I hope to be well prepared too. Good luck ~A.~

I haven't taken my son to a beach or anything before but we got a floaty that he can sit in from Target for $12.99 and it has a sun shade. Instead of Huggies Swimmers I would do a cloth diaper bathing suit, they are much more secure when it comes to holding in BM's. Don't forget the sunscreen and a hat and you should be good to go. Oh yeah and don't forget to ask for bottled water for her. There water down there can be gross but I'm sure you remember that from past experiences.

Good Luck and have fun,
J.

We just got back from a cruise with my 20 month old. We went to the beach on 2 of our port days. For my little girl on both those days we brought her hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insulated sippy cup, sand shoes, and a few cheap sand toys from Target. For her swimsuit we bought 2 at Target that are a short and tshirt style. I liked them because they covered more of her body than a traditional suit. We did not take her floaties or anything thing like that. We knew she's not a fan of the water so if she did happen to get in it would be holding on to us for dear life as we walked out to the water. You might want to take a stroller also because it's a great way to carry everything. Enjoy your trip!
