Bathing Toddler in Hotel

I have a 2 year old son and we will be traveling over spring break. Obviuosly, we'll be in a hotel. BUT in the past, for bath time, I have always just bathed him in his toddler tub. But he seems a little big for it now. Plus, it takes up a lot of space in the truck. So, what do you do to bathe your younger kids like this in a hotel? I know this seems silly, but the hotel expos that have come out about cleanliness lately just have me a little freaked out about just plopping him in the hotel tub...

What can I do next?

We have handled this in two ways. I either take cleaner and clean the tub myself or I give my kids a shower. My son prefers a bath, but my daughter loves to shower. It really depends on whether I remember to bring cleaner or not.

We don't stay in cheap places, but I still don't think anybody cleans a hotel room as good as you'd clean at home!

When we traveled with our son I bought one of the inflatable tubs that goes in the big tub. If you're son's not too big one of those would work - and since they're inflatable they are nice and compact for travel.

2yr can be difficult to shower cause their feet are like bars of soap. I have the kids sit on a towel.

My daughter is 14 now and has showered for years. We do travel a lot and often with her and when she was a toddler, I would stop by a convenience store close to the hotel, pick up a little bottle of clorox and clean to tub again, each day while we were there.

We stay in high end hotels and I am sure they did not HAVE to be cleaned again but it made me feel better! Have fun.

You might want to try the shower thing if you are really concered. My kids are 9 and 6 and have taken baths in hotel bathtubs before and I always just wiped it down with a soapy washcloth before I filled the tub up. Nowadays they have those clorox wipes and I would just take a can of those and use one to wipe down the tub. I always take them to hotels now to wipe down the phone and TV remote. Don't see why you couldn't use it in the tub just to ease your own mind. Good luck!

I haven't read the other suggestions, so you may have already heard this a dozen times, but they do have blow up tubs that would not take up much room in your car that would work if you have issues with the hotel tub. Otherwise, if you are worried, pick up a can of disinfecting wipes and wipe down the tub, them plop him in!

Great question! I have often wondered the same thing. I agree with the other response about doing a quick cleaning yourself. You could also bring a bath mat to stick in the bottom of the tub so your son is sitting on the mat instead of directly on the bath tub. Often times the hotels have bath mats but I would either bring my own or stop and purchase one when you get to your destination. Have a great trip!

My husband and I just recently flew to California for 4 days with our 17 month old child. Our little one took a shower with mommy or daddy almost every day we were gone. He actually loved it and never wanted to sit down b/c neither of us sat down. If you are worried about what he is 'standing' on, just lay a towel on the shower floor (obv avoid the drain!) and then as soon as he is done you can lift him up and carry him to the next place. Hope ya'll have fun! :)

If you are worried about cleanliness, I would just bring disinfectant and use it before I bathe him. Personally, I give my daughter showers with me b/c that is what is easier for me. I hate sitting in the bath tub and it kills my back to lean over the bath tub to clean her. So, she usually plays in the bath (I fill, empty, and refill throughout shower) and I shower her while I shower.

P.S.- I've worked in hotels. It depends on the staff, manager, etc, but hotel bathrooms usually aren't cleaned like we do clean at home. However, they do use some pretty powerful industrial strength cleaner. So, not as much attention is given to cleaning, but the cleaner is strong.

I am sure that at the end of a day running in the park, digging in the sandpit, your toddler is nice and flilthier than it would be running him or her under the shower at the hotel. At least mine are really filthy at the end of any day outside in the mud and all.
Do not worry. Just get them to stand and run the water through them. you can even put a towel on the flow and let them stand or sit on it.
I have also just carried them and showered with them if you are comfortable with that.
goodluck. it will be okay.

Just bring a little bottle of lysol or other cleaner and clean it before you bathe them...

also dont drink out of the GLASS cups in the bathroom they dont wash them in the dishwasher they just rinse them and put them back on the counter... only use plastic cups or wash the glass ones yourself.

HAve fun!!!

My cousin always takes cleaning products and cleans the bath tub at hotels before using it. (And pretty much Lysols everything-- she may even take her own bedding.) I honestly don't think/worry about those things-- I just make sure I pack fun bath toys and tear free shampoo and give my little ones LOTS of play time in the bath tub after a long car ride to get their wiggles out. Good luck!
