Bare Minerals by Bare Essentuals- Is It Worth The $ ?

I went in to try bare minerals and loved how my face looks so natural and pretty with this makeup. The starter kit it $60 and you get alot of stuff in it. I'm thinking of getting it for Christmas. I try not to spend alot of money on cosmetics and usueally by almay under $10. So I feel a little bad spending so much on makeup, but if it is going to keep my skin healthier and I'll feel better casue i look better than i can kinda justify spending more. I was wondering if there is anything else you have found that gives the same great look that is mineral makeup for less, that drugstores may carry. I know alot of the cosmetic companies are selling theis now but which ones compare most closely to bare minerals?
thnks for and input :)

So What Happened?

Wow, I have received soooo many great responses...THANK YOU everyone for your advice and suggestions. If you personal messaged me, sorry for not getting back to you, it's taken a while to read all of them. The majority of you say that it IS worth the $ and love the product. I went back to try it on again at ULTA and decided to order it for Christmas :) I'm excited to get it finally. And think I deserve to splurge a bit on myself this time of year too lol. Anyway, thank you all so much for all your thoughts and also stearing me in the right direction. I'll let you know how I do with the whole application process once I get it...Hopefully I can do it as easily as the makeup artists make it look lol :P

i used it for a while, and it started leaving streaks on my face! I washed my brushes, and it didn't work. I started using MAC Studio Fix and love the finish just as much (i am prone to acne). I was told that bare minerals does streak on some people, I was one of the unfortunate ones :( But I LOVE what i'm using now!

Hi S.,
I am a skin care specialist (esthetician) and we offer the bare minerals where I work. I love them. The bare minerals are a good quality mineral makeup. The quality of the ingredients is very important. One of the nice features of mineral makeup is that it won't clog the pores. And if you fell asleep without getting to wash your face (like a lot of mom's do) it won't set you back with your skincare. The starter kits are great because you get everything that you need, after wards you won't have to get the brushes, just the replacement items that you ran out of. I think that you feel the money that you spend on it is well worth it!

Hope this helps.

Now, if you can't afford it, that's one thing and you're wise to refrain. BUT if you can afford it and you just feel guilty for spending money on yourself, don't let that get in the way! You deserve to pamper yourself a little. We need to take care of ourselves in order to take better care of our families.

I used to rarely wear makeup. It was mostly because I felt too busy. But now I wear at least a little makeup and try to quickly style my hair cute and as a result I'm actually more productive. I love feeling like I can go out in public and not be embarrassed if I run into someone I know or passing the mirror and feeling pretty. My husband likes it better too. And it's so fun to experiment with new makeup.

When I feel frazzled, exhausted, resentful it's usually because I haven't taken time out for myself to feel renewed. We need to take a break every now and then to better appreciate ourselves and motherhood and not be martyrs. You may take plenty of time for yourself, and don't need my bit of advice, but I thought it was important to note in case you feel guilty giving yourself a treat. If it brings you happiness, then it's better for your family and money well spent (if you can afford it of course!)

Bare escentuals is the BEST makeup out there if you want my opinion. I have been using it for years and I have tried the less expensive at times but it doesnt compare to bare escentuals. Also wanted to let you know that the bare escentuals lasts a lot longer than they say it does. The last time I had to buy any was a year ago and I still have plenty. You use so little that it really lasts a long time. That is all I use anymore and I love it. Also it is cheaper at Sophora and QVC so check those places out!

i just ordered all the makeup i'd need for my face, including brushes and eye makeup for 80 dollars from signature minerals. they have the same ingredients as bare minerals, it's all natural and much much cheaper. you'd have to order from them online though. a lot of drugstore brands that claim to have mineral makeup only lack one chemical, talc. other than that they are basically loose chemical filled powder. so i wouldn't really reccomend that route even though it is cheaper. i hope this helps

Hi, S. ~

Funny you should post about this right now. I just ran out of my Bare Essentuals powders - and I've had them over a year. (I don't wear makeup that often.) So I went and got the Loreal "equivalent" from the drugstore and I can't stand it. It's just not the same. And my breakouts are out of control! I'm one of those who can't really afford many extras (and when I do I always seem to spend on the kids) and $60 is A LOT for my family for makeup. I didn't have to pay for it before, because my mom got me started, but I think now that I'm out I'll have to go searching out the real thing!

I've been using Bare Minerals for about 6 months now and at first I totally loved it. I still like it and use it everyday, but once I run out of my current supply, I will probably switch to Pur Minerals (I'm told it's more moisturizing). That being said, my skin has improved and it's nice to know you can leave it on at night without worrying about breaking out in the morning. I was recently told to do my whole face, like usual, then take some serum, rub it onto your fingertips and dab it onto your cheek area for that glowy look (it totally works and it solves my dry skin problem, too). I haven't tried any of the other mineral make-up, but it's probably worth trying since the Bare Minerals stuff is kinda pricey. The less expensive stuff might not work as well, but at least you haven't spent a fortune finding out. And there's nothing wrong with spending a bit of $$ on yourself once in a while...you deserve it!

I absolutely love my bare minerals. I have been using it for about 2 years. I think the cost is well worth the product. If you don't wear a ton of make-up it should last you a long time. I would stick to the bare minerals brand, it is trusted and it is truly natural. My mom tried a cheaper brand and the results were very disappointing. Good luck!

Not really. I have sensitive skin, and this is not entirely as natural as they say. I itch everytime I become warm and my pores begin to open! I bought the kit... and felt it was a waste of money. If you really, really like it, find a retailer near you that carries it(for me it's in Durango, CO) and buy only the color you like. Myself, I'm going to start researching the alternatives. If you find one, please let me know!

Hi S.,

I am an esthetician and really think mineral make-up is best for the skin and I love the natural look and feel of it. I prefer Laura Mercier (found at Nordstrom, Macy's etc.). You get a larger quantity for $35 although it doesn't come with the "kit" - brushes, mineral veil, etc. I think it's worth purchasing the powder and perhaps the mineral primer and using a brush you currently have on hand. Hope this helps!

I've been using it for about a year and a half, and I really like it. I started using it because I have mild roseacea and it covers the redness pretty well. I went to a 'workshop' at Ulta a few weeks after I first purchased it and they showed me how to mix it with a little water or moisturiser (sp), each day, to make it go on smoother. I was not only blessed with the roseacea, but large pores as well :{ I have been very happy with it, but recently I have been thinking about trying Pur Minerals at Ulta. They have a cover up that I really like and seem to be a liitle cheaper. Although I have to say, I only have to buy my product twice a year, which I don't think it bad.
It's a good, clean product that doesn't contain alot of 'stuff'.

It is worth the money, you should spend a little on yourself anyway. I used to work at Bare Essentuals for a temp. Christmas job one year and I learned alot about thier organic make-up. Even years later I still buy their make-up and I feel like I am spending well. It does make a difference in how I look and I don't feel over done. I'm sorry I don't know any make-up like it but you may find it a little cheaper at ULTA, they do carry it too.

Hi S.,

I represent a skin care company called Arbonne and many of my clients have used Bare Minerals in the past but have switched to Arbonne's Mineral Powder foundation because it's less expensive and their are more foundation colors (15 to be exact) so we can match almost any skin tone. Arbonne's products are all formulated in Switzerland and are botanically based so they are very good for your skin. They are proven to be Pure, Safe and Beneficial!

If you're interested, we could meet for coffee (my treat) and I can show you the foundation and match your color. I live in Parker and would be happy to meet up. Our mineral powder foundation retails for $34 and lasts me about 6 months so it's well worth the money!! I can also show you how you can get it for 35% off. Here's my website if you want to find out more about Arbonne and the products. Feel free to click on "Shop Online" to browse the catalog. http://www.tarrahbrandsma.myarbonne.com/

If you have never tried the powder makeup before you may not like it in the long run. There are knock-offs all over now, I tried the Loreal Bare Naturale and found it to be very similar and way cheaper. The big difference, I think, is in the brush. So I'd say buy yourself a nice powder brush and try it out with the drugstore brand. If you like the effect then go ahead and get the starter kit if it has the stuff you want in it.

Bare Minerals is a great product. I don't think getting a knock off at the drug store is a good idea, it's not going to be very good quality. I don't know if you really need the whole starter kit though, I don't know what comes in it. I've only bought the single face powder at ulta. But I have found having a good brush is essential, you get much better coverage with a good brush. I don't think you have to stick with "Bare Minerals" though there are other quality mineral powders out there. I found some stuff called Mineral Secret from Sorme that I like a little better, it's less expensive and comes with like twice as much. I don't know who sells it though, I'm a hair stylist and get it at a store that only sells it to licensed professionals. If you're interested I might be able to get you some if you live close. It doesn't have a starter kit or anything. I guess they have a websight too (just saw it on the package) www.sorme.com
I'd definitaley say make the switch to minerals though, you won't regret it.

Hi S. (and all Mommies!!) – I personally love the Bare Minerals line, the product is wonderful. I love the coverage and the total lack of weight (you know how some feel really heavy)…I’m a ‘recovering liquid foundation’ addict ; ), I always HAD to wear the liquid foundation, I felt it gave the best coverage but my face was a mess, the makeup seemed too heavy and even the Almay line (which has a water base line vs the oil base) still seemed pretty heavy…so when I discovered Bare Essentials and how good it was, I was pretty stoked. Then came the sticker shock! Granted the $60 gets you quite a bit of makeup plus a couple of brushes, I still felt bad spending that much on myself (kids need jeans, socks, etc…we always put ourselves last don’t we…). So I did mass searches online and started purchasing small ‘test’ quantities of each websites mineral product. So far, the best site I found is http://mineralbasics.com she (Chandi) has a lot to offer, even brush kits, and she runs sales quite often with really great prices, you almost feel like you’re stealing from her! ; ) The best thing I found was something called ‘ENHANCE’…you know how it’s kind of hard to get a powder in the perfect color? This Enhance is a non color powder that works great for lightening your foundation powders, you just mix it in a little at a time until you achieve the desired results…plus, at $30 a pop, it’s a pretty good buy considering what al you can do with it. If you’re not sure of your foundation color, you can actually purchase smaller sample sizes (1/8 tsp) for ONLY $1.75!! You can afford to try multiple shades for really cheap! It’s a really great site!!

Hi S.!

It is totally worth it. I got it about a yr ago and it lasts FOREVER! I have used every kind of make up there is and this looks the most natural and beautiful coverage as well. The best part is unlike any other makeup .. if you leave it on at night it actually HELPS your skin. If you felt good about yourself than I say GO FOR IT.. You deserve to feel pretty. It was the best thing I did for myself in a long time. I was worried that all the steps and different powders would take forever to get ready but it really doesn't. I even put #'s on each powder to label them so it would be easier. Works like a charm.
