OK recently I started W.W. and lost five pounds and Im learning alot of stuff and want to change my look I have long black hair that is down to my lower back and cutting it is not an option for me and I dont want it any differant color then black. So I saw this girl with hair resembeling mine and she had bangs and looked really good but are bangs a thing of the past. What do you ladies think?

What can I do next?

I just cut thick bangs after chickening out for years. I love them. I say do it, make the change to celebrate the other changes you're making, and if you hate them it's just hair and it grows back. Good luck!

If they are a thing of the past - then that's a good reason to do it. You want to be different, not exactly like everyone else.

Go for bangs. Hair grows.

One had HOPED that skintight jeans were a thing of the past as well (says the girl who wore them in the 80's before lycra and did the whole "lie on the bed and use pliers to zip them" thing), but they're everywhere.

Fashions come and go. Very few are truely gone forever, they just alter a little bit. Take bangs that you hairspray up so that they make a "wave" (or attacking spider) look. Gone for ages (but they've cycled through 4 times, starting in victorian times, the most recent being the 80's). Or teensy short bangs that make a perfectly straight line on your forehead. Or long bangs that tuck behind your ear. Or, or, or, or. Bangs styles come and go. But bangs are always around.

Actually, they are very now and current. Look at all the ladies from the Golden Globes awards show. A lot of them had heavy bangs.

I have straight long dark hair past my booty. I've got bangs. Bangs are great. Just make sure you get a good cut for your face shape. Hard straight bangs don't do good on too many people but some can pull it off. You can go wispy or a longer side bang or a bang that kind of curves around your forehead if you have a round face like me.
I think it would be a great place to do a change.
Wish you the best with your new look :)

Take a look at the shape of your face to decide what bangs to get. Some bangs look better with round or oval, etc. There are websites for this. Also ask a trusted hair stylist for opinions.

I say do it, just pick something that will be flattering to your facial shape.

For me....no bangs. I hate them ON ME. The last three times I had bangs I regretted it and it took FOREVER for them to grow back. Since I have very long hair, I think it looks kinda wierd when growing out. I will never do it again! I like my hair all long. Maybe if I ever do a 'makeover' where I get a style, but it would have to gradually go from front to back, not bangs to long hair in back. It doesn't work.....FOR ME!!

Now as for you? Look at yourself with bangs FIRST. Hold some of your hair in the front to the length bangs would be and see what you think. Look at how they frame your face. If you decide to cut the bangs, cut them long first.....you can always trim more off but if you cut too much and don't like it you will be stuck with it until it grows back out. (My hair grows slow....yours might grow faster.)

***EDIT*** I saw the profile picture. CUTE!! THEY LOOK GREAT ON YOU!! I am glad you made the best decision FOR YOU!!

There are a million different types of bangs you can get. Some looks are very "in style" right now. I used to have very straight cut, full bangs, but it made me look like a big 8 y/o, because my face is very round and full.
So I have been opting to get a side swept bang for a while and I love them.
Google "bangs" and go to pictures and find a style you like and you think will look flattering on you. If you get them and you don't like them, it will only take a little while to grow long enough to pin them back. So it's not like you will be stuck forever.
Good Luck! =)

Bangs are very current and in style. There is a site you can go on and order clip on bangs. They aren't very expensive and this way you can see if you like yourself with bangs before you do it and have to wait ages for them to grow back in. Good luck!!

Bangs are currently in style. Look at pictures and you'll see that there are even a different styles of bangs. Which style would look best on you is determined by your face shape. I suggest that you google face shape and hair styles to get some ideas. Several women's magazines have had articles with pictures and diagrams too. Seems like the last one I saw was in Women First. The magazines I've seen are the inexpensive larger than the 8"x12" size.

Later: The article about face shapes and bangs is on pg.10 in for women First, January 10, 2011 issue found at the check out stand in grocery stores.

I have long dark brown hair and a very round face. I thought if I had bangs it would make my round face look even more squat and chubby. My hair dresser suggested long swoopy bands and I agreed. I love them (especially b/c now I don't have to worry about botoxing my forehead wrinkles LOL). I would start with longer bangs first. Don't jump into the straight shorter version. It might be too dramatic. Just make sure you don't cut them yourself as I learned the hard way. I accidentally just chopped them way too short and I look silly. I can't wait for them to grow out.

I have the side bangs, lol. (I can make them go straight across if I wanted as well)

I think it depends on the person.
I honestly would get some layers in your hair as well if you go with bangs. I think bangs look awful without layers in the hair.

I think a tiny bit of hair around the face, a few little strands of wispy hair, frames it and softens the look but bangs are a no go for me, they make the face look wider and they actually make people look out of date and much older to me.

Says who? I see bangs all the time.
What I'm not a fan of is extremely long, straight hair and short, straight-across bangs. Why not some soft layers around your face or swept over to the side?
