Bakugan Toys for 6 Y/o

I didn't even know what they were or heard of them until my step-son showed then to me. We bought him some at Walmart and they had plenty. I don't know what ages play with these but he's 11 years old and loves them. My sons are much older (21,19,& 17) so I was out of the loop with this new thing.

my 11 yr old has been addicted to these for a while now. he buys them with his allowance and keeps track of them pretty well. he seems to think that his 5 yr old brother is too young to completely understand it, but will allow him to play from time to time. would i personally by my 6 yr old this? no, because i feel there are better toys for them that teach things other than yell "bakugan rules" at each other. but that's just my pro-educational toys opinion.

Bakugan can be found at walmart, target and toys r us... They are little round balls that when they are rolled across a magnet they pop out to be fighter animals (I can't really tell what they look like :)) There is a board game, the figures and carrying case.. Apparently it is all the rage at school. it was the only thing my 9 yr old asked for from Santa... A little pricy... $9.00 for 3 men, 29.99 for the board game and 19.99 for the carrying case... good luck

A tip if you get them - They sell that carrier carousel to store your players in, but it costs a lot - an egg carton works just fine, and is a lot cheaper! My 7 year old got really into these for a while, since his friends were at school, but like the previous poster said the game is too complicated for them - they just like to make them pop open and see how strong their characters are (accoring to the ratings on the card). He has now passed most of his off to his younger 4 1/2 year old brother, making little brother feel like a cool big guy!

How funny...we just went through this at Christmas. My 5 1/2 son wanted them and got two sets (one from Santa and one from Grammy). The advise from other posters is good. My son and his friends make up their own games. Word of caution, we recently got him the arm ban shooter,which actually takes the smallers Bakugan balls and we had the slightly larger ones. So make sure the accessories will match the size you get. He should have fun with them. Keep them away from your youngest because there are little arms/parts that open up and could be broken off and ingested. There are also tiny magnets in these toys. I gave my son a little draw string bag to keep his in.

Visit the website www.bakugan.com. Bakugan is one of the hottest toys right now. They are also hard to find so start looking now. Each Bakugan has points (located on the Bakugan) and come with a magnetic card. The Bakugans 'battle'... when 2 Bakugan's land on the magnetic card, their points are exposed. The card will tell you if you need to add or subtract points from your Bakugan (this is the battle). The Bakugan with the highest points after the battle wins. That's the simple version of the game. You can buy a starter pack with 3 Bakugans or you can buy the singles. I would buy no less than 2.

When my granddaughter gave me a Christmas list, I didn't know half the things on there. I went on the computer to find out a lot of them and my co-worker who has a daughter about her age told me the others. We can't keep up with the toys they make for children these days! Good luck!

I don't know a lot about it, but a couple of my daughter's 6 & 7 yr old friends and nephews are totally into it. Apparently there's so kind of figure inside of the magnetic balls. And when you "battle" you end up gaining new one, losing ones, trading etc. I imagine like marbles used to be a long, long time ago. My SIL is a teacher and is very particular about what games, etc. she'll let her sone play with, but she seems to have no issue w/ Bakugan, so I think it's o.k. I know my nephew ( he's 6 1/2) is really big into Pokemon too.

Btw- The Bakugan balls are pretty small, so you might want to be careful w/ your 5 month old.

My 5 1/2 year old loves them & he has several friends who are 7 & 10 who love them.. The game is too complicated for the younger ones.. because they have to be able to add numbers like 530 & 480 when collecting scores.. Basically the Bakugan rolls onto a magnetic card (sold in the pack) and it opens relieving miniture dragons, tigers etc.. There is a number on each Bakugan & then when they both land on the same card they brawl... not as complicated as it sounds but as I say, the adding is. Basically the kids make up their own games & rules at the beginning. Then comes the knowledge & they want particular ones. As a Mummy I would advise you to write down which ones you buy because it is easy to double up as there are many & different colours. Then comes the lending, borrowing & swopping. I think of them as marbles... like my brother used to play with and swop etc. It's social, engaging, fun & imagiative - what more can you ask out of a toy.. we have many.

The bakugans are little balls, and come with a magnetic card. When you put the ball on the card it transforms form them into some character. I think they are along the same line as transformers. My son has some of the balls and loves playing with them. I have not let him watch the cartoon, try to avoid so much TV with fighting, etc. I think overall they are pretty benign. My son loves them!!! He will be 6 in march. My 14 month daughter is also intrigued by their round shape, and probably not dangerous, though would worry about one of the pieces breaking off in the transformed state. Will be interested to see what others say about them.

my 8yo ds LOVES these toys. Like other posters said - complicated but the kids manage to have fun & make up their own games (which I like better). We are home schoolers & the boys loves to "battle" on co-op days. We buy ours on ebay (used is good) or if he has his own $ we go to Target or Toys R Us -- these 2 stores carry a good selection (Walmart -at least ours) does not.
