BAD Diaper Rash :(

My 11 month old daughter woke up this morning with a very bad (bright red) diaper rash. I have been wiping her with a warm, very soft washcloth and drying her bottom completely before applying Buttpaste. I am changing her as soon as I know she is wet...checking constantly! I have also let her crawl around without a diaper on in an attempt to let her bottom "air-out". Is there anything else I should be doing? I do not think it is a reaction to any new food, but I am going back to single ingredient, simple foods until this clears up.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Her rash is much better today. Thanks for all the thoughtful responses! I think what helped the most was having her crawl around without her diaper on for about 10-15 minutes each time I changed her. The air really dried her bottom before I applied the Buttpaste.

You could give her a baking soda bath. Let her play in the water for a while to let the baking soda neutralize the skin. This can help a lot. Good luck

My son always had really bad diaper rash. I usued triple paste and it usually cleared up in a day. It even worked when his rashes would become raw with open sores. It never seemed to sting him either. I would try it. There was one time that the dr said it was a yeast infection and had me buy athletes foot cream. Just another suggestion.

I like triplepaste, it seemd to work more quickly to clear up a bad diaper rash. CVS has it at a decent price. I think all you are doing will help but call the pediatrician if it is not getting better in a day or two.

my 11 month old had a bad diaper rash not to long ago.His was because I let him eat to many bananas.So it could something she ate.Do you give her juice alot?It could be from that also.But anywho I got his to go away by using Aquaphor healing ointment and desitin.I made sure the area was dry and put both on his bottom everytime I changed him.And even when it was gone I still put aquaphor on him.Its a good habit to just put something on the bottom everytime you change it;}

Has she been on any antibiotics? Sometimes that causes diaper rash. Or, is she teething? That could be another culprit. Keep doing what you have been doing, and it should clear up soon!

I swear by a product called Resinol. It is not a prescription, but usually it is behind the pharmacy counter or ask your pharmacy if they can order it. It usually cleared any rash my son had overnight. If that does not help, I would talk to the doctor to make sure it isn't a yeast infection.

It sounds like yeast. My kids both have had this happen. My doctor told me to use Athletes foot cream and then put the rash cream of your choice over it. This always clears the rash within a day.

Hi M.! It sounds like you're doing everything any of us other moms would be doing!

Becasue, diaper rash is caused by friction and irritation in the presense of moisture. It is a common skin irritation affecting babies, who have otherwise healthy skin. It triggers yeast to grow. This occurs naturally when wet diapers are not changed promptly. Babies will vary in their susceptability to developing diaper rash. Keeping the skin as dry as possible is one of the best methods of prevention. Hospital nurseries also often harbor resistant strains of these organisms, and you may bring them home in your new bundle of joy.

It seems to me that you are doping everything that the book says! :+)

*Properly laundering of all baby clothing as well as diapers in a non-toxic laundry soap is a must!

If you want to know more, let me know. There are a few products that i could recommend that might work for your little one. You never know.

God Bless!

J.
