Back Yard Party in July End in Texas Heat - Need Cooling Suggestions

I plan to celebrate by daughters first birthday at our home. We are planning to rent a bounce house and have some outdoor activities for kids in the backyard. Since it is July and the heat is over-bearing I was wondering what would be my options for cooling. I plan to start late evening around 6pm while the sun is going down but I would still need some cooling. Does anyone know where we can rent coolers or cooling fans. I also plan to have some umbrella shades. If anyone knows anyone who rents those as well please let me know.

What can I do next?

I would rent a small water slide instead of a bounce house. That way, the water is cooling and the kids wont get over heated bouncing. Starting late like you are is also good. THere are misters, but I do not know how expensive they are. You can also put out some little kiddie pools to splash around in and a slip and slide.

you could have a little pool set up as well. even if the adults sat around it and dunked there feet in it truly helps. instead of umbrellas if you could get a pop up tent like the ones used for market days. those really cool things off. have you seen the outdoor airconditioning. its basically small pvc pipes with little misting devices and water actually cools the area. you dont get wet unless your standing right under it.

a saturday morning party would be cooler...it's 87 in beaumont right now & at 6 it will still be above 95! All the cooling ideas & pop-up tent ideas are great, but think about an early in the day party---happy birthday to your little one!

I didn't read your prior posts but as an FYI, the hottest part of the day for us in AZ is 5pm. May want to have the party at noon for lunch? Also, go to the hardware store and instead of the cooling fans, check out the misters that are like hoses. We have one strung around our patio and you just hook it up to the outside faucet and it has that light mist that comes down. You can also just bring out floor/desk fans from the house, which is what we do, so you don't have to buy new ones. Good luck and have fun!!!

I agree with the previous mom. Try a party rental place to see if they have the cooling mist fans (I know the zoo in Houston had them and all the kids including adults were taking turns to cool off). We have several fans we use in the backyard to help when the kids play. Since it is in July, try a slip and slide party if you don't mind having wet kids. It keeps everyone including the parents happy. Have lots of water, maybe lemonade, and Gatorade around for refreshments. Good luck and have fun. -- L.

My sons birthday is in Aug, and we purchased a large AGGIE :) tent like for tailgating on his 1st birthday (about $99). We felt it was a great investment as we have used it several times at other places and at his 2nd and 3rd birthday. We set it up in the backyard mainly for the adults who are watching the kids. We had fans set up blowing under the tent towards the kids and it was very helpful. We also had coolers for drinks for the adults and kids. People were also able to come in our house and cool off at any point as it does get so hot here in Texas....GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

Aztec Events & Tents should have all of the things you need available for rental. http://www.aztecusa.com/

I bought a mister hose ( about 20-25.00) at Lowes, that attaches to the garden hose. The mister hose can then be attached to a canopy or a patio edge with J hooks. I attached ours with plastic ties (also at Lowes) to one side of the canopy. Turn your hose on, you now have a Mister system. It worked great for our party in Corpus Christi on the island, where humidity is King. Good Luck!

Most all professional party rental companies have the big fan's, and cooling fans and the pop up shade canopies. Also you could involve water like fun sprinkler to run thru, and do water balloons and tell the kids to wear/bring bathing suits.
Have plenty of cold drinks, ice and water for kids and adults.
We have a June birthday girl and did her first bday at 10:30 in the morning to avoid some heat.

I like Marquee Rentals in Austin. Ann is the person I always work with, but all of them are wonderful. They will be able to make great suggestions for you, they have EVERYTHING! They will also deliver. Call to reserve it now so that it will be available. The fans to provide cross ventilation will be great.. They have fans that do a mist of water.

Having it later in the day with lots of cold drinks will help. Slice lots of watermelon and have it really cold in a cooler that people can eat it through out the whole party. Also lots of grapes. I always had a 3 gallon beverage cooler of water and a 3 gallon beverage cooler of lemonade at our summer events..Have plastic cups that people can write their names on so there will not be lots of waste.

We have lots of June and July Birthdays, So I completely understand this situation.

yes! We rented a cooling fan when we had our wedding party in our backyard. We rented from a place down here in South Austin, just a normal party rental place, so I am sure there are places up your way that have them as well. they look kind of like the shape of the big tv's, and you connect your lawn hose to it. We placed ours in the corner of the hard facing out, and it really did help! I think we rented it for the full day for like $50 or something. Well worth it during the hot summer days we have here!
