Bachelorette - the Domestic Violence Bachelor

Yep - I gotta talk about last night's show.

Anybody catch the guy who confessed to having TWO felony convictions for DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, but says it was a misunderstanding because he was just trying to stop his girlfriend from driving drunk? He did a good job of selling it - he was just trying to stop her from getting hurt or killing someone, and then somehow he wound up charged with domestic violence. But he just loves his son, and wants to move forward with the bachelorette.

Anybody else read between the lines?

"She tried to leave, so I hit her. She tried again, so I did it again. But yadda yadda yadda, totally not my fault b/c she coulda driven drunk. I'm not taking responsibility for anything. Another glass of wine?"

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

ahhh, the charges were dropped? Ah well - still seems shady. Anytime somebody gives the "the next thing you know..." it always strikes me a bit as "yadda yadda yadda" and I wonder ala Seinfeld just how much can someone hide in a yadda yadda yadda.

Something like my DH and I went on vacation and yadda yadda yadda now I'm a widow.

My brother (not by blood, but all the same) committed sucide on March 20th of this year. It tore my heart in two. My kids, my whole family. Everyone is still in pain from losing him at such a young age.

He was charged with domestic violence from the same type of situation. His daughter's mother was trying to drive drunk (they both had drug and alcohol issues) and he physically held her and tossed her keys. She called the police. The charges were dropped based on all of the eye witness statements that said he did exactly what he said he did. He did not hit her, he bear hugged her from beihnd to stop her. Charges dropped. It still didn't stop his downward spiral.

I think it's important to really know the stories behind things.

However, I have no idea what show you're talking about, the story just hit close to home.

I detest that show with every fiber of my being and wish it would go off the air. But, it won't because these shows are relatively cheap to produce and they appeal to the seamy, voyeuristic nature of human beings. My husband loves the show and I do just about anything to avoid it.

I don't believe for one second that the producers don't know the backgrounds of the people they pick to be on the show. This type of drama (felony DV convictions??? ETA: sounds like they weren't convictions) creates ratings and buzz.

Ugh.

I watched the show - I did not interpret what he said as "I hit her". The case was dismissed. If her blood alcohol level was tested and she got pissed because he tried to stop her from driving? Yeah...the cops are going to believe the chick...UNTIL they do her blood alcohol level..

The show screens things like this. And the people get tested for STDs.

Have you seen a drunk person fight for the keys to a car?
Have you seen the punches they can throw - be it a man or a W. - when, God forbid, someone calls them on their problem?

IF he had been a violent person - there is NO WAY a CALIFORNIA JUDGE (say LIBERAL!) would allow a MAN to have FULL CUSTODY of the child IF he was abusive...California judges tend to side with the biological mother...that a judge didn't - speaks VOLUMES about the biological mother.

I think the story is that he had one arrest and that the charges were dismissed. Where are you getting two felony convictions?

Yes, I watched (one of my fave guilty pleasures!). It is so trashy but yet I still watch....Anyway, all I could think when he told her that was why the heck would you choose to start a relationship with someone wirh dv charges? Sure, maybe he didn't do anything wrong (although my experience is that usually dv charges are for a significant reason!!), but still, she's got all those guys to choose from, why even consider him??

Um, considering they only call them reality shows and they aren't actually real... Nope, don't really get into critiquing writers, I just don't watch a show if it is poorly written.

I dint watch it, but by all accounts the charges were dropped. That's a big difference from 2 felony convictions.
His version is most likely true, his arrest resulting from a pi$$ed off, drunken baby mama.

Hilariously sad... I hope she didn't buy it for a second. He couldn't think of another way to keep her from getting in the car? I would think that taking her keys and hiding them or tossing them into a bush/grass/river would have worked too... or just picking her up from behind in a "bear hug" and holding her would have worked... or calling the cops.

My sister's friend tried to pull this one too. "He didn't mean to hold a gun to her head. He was cleaning it and she walked into the room and he held it up to her head to be funny." Um... not funny. Also not funny when it accidentally fired and nearly missed the girl's face. Another "misunderstood" domestic violence charge... needless to say that "friend" and her boyfriend are not allowed around anymore.

I see where you're coming from. Why don't people call the cops on the drivers to be? Maybe if they got nailed for drunk driving they might get the message from someone outside of the family that tries to stop them and prevent carnage.

This post has inspired me to do just that. I don't know many people in my circle that drink that much. But if they will not give up their keys, I will tell them that I will call the police. And I'm going to ask the non-emergency police line what the best procedure is.

Why risk physical violence when you can let the law teach them.

Interesting. Is it actual or did he have to memorize it off a script. I think this show is just as "real" as professional wrestling or "Thumbelina" or "Days of Our Lives".

Good luck to you and yours.

Yup, I saw that too. Anyone with a record of domestic violence should not be let on the show. Period. Shame on the producers. Maybe next season we can hope for some sex felons...

I watched and it didn't bother me, I don't agree with since he has a domestic violence charge he shouldn't be let on the show. The charges were dropped and I agree a arrest is totally different from a conviction. My husband and I have a good friend that we have known for years he was just recently picked up on a domestic violence charge for throwing his keys at the wall while him and his girlfriend were having an argument (he threw them after she blocked the front door and slapped him across the face) the charges were dropped and it doesn't make me think any less of him. Sometimes the circumstances are so petty ( I understand that this always isn't the case) but once the police get called they normally remove someone from the situation even if its as simple as throwing keys against a wall.

I thought it was big of him to admit it on national tv! and like someone else said he laid it all out there for her to decide if she wanted to keep him around or not.

I heard that and thought wow he opened his mouth before he thought about it!! But that is a good thing because she needs to know what kind of person he is. I was really surprised at how emotional the guy was last night, that got kicked off. I can't remember his name. I thought I liked him, but after last night, boy I would not want an emotional train wreck for a husband!! This show is crazy, but I can't stop watching it!!!
