What is the going rate for babysitting services these days. I have hired a sitter for tonight, but she has not set a rate. I was guessing she should charge between 5 and 10 dollars an hour. What are you paying??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

After reading all the advice I discussed what I learned with our sitter. We settled on $7 per hour as a fair rate to charge for watching one child. We were gone for two and a half hours, so the evening cost me $17.00. Teresa was great and our daughter enjoyed their evening together. We will definately use her the next time we need a night out.

I've heard in the Waldo/Brookside area - where babysitters names seem to be closely guarded, that they become expensive when they drive themselves. Before 16years of age - $5-7. After 16 yrs of age, $10 and up.

When I just had one child, I usually paid $5/hr for a teenage babysitter. Since I live in a very close-knit neighborhood with lots of kids, the good sitters book up quickly. I sometimes paid more if I really liked the sitter to secure her for future occasions.

We usually have family watch our kids, but we pay my sister or my husband's sister when they watch them. We have 4 kids and they come over around 6pm and we are usually home around 11pm. We have dinner ready for them and the kids and the kids are usally all in bed around 8:30pm. With all that said....I usally give them $30. I hope this helped some. Have a great night out with your husband.....we all need those! C.

Hi J., I'm C., 56yrs,old and I teach "The Ultimate Supersitter Class" that I developed 15 yrs. ago in LA. As a beginning sitter 11yr. to 13yr. being paid $5 to $6 an hour is fair. More experienced older kid $8 to $9.. As they become a Jr. Nanny driving and spending all day, $10 is fair. This is for 2 kids and adjust accordingly. Also. are your sitters certified (taking some sort of babysitting class)? That should be considered , too!. This info is from my parent focus groups and what kids tell me. Moat parents don't ask, just give the sitter $25 for an eve. of 2-4hrs and I tell my kids to say, "Thank You!" But, if they have taken a class and this is thier business, they should be able to verbalize thier rate to the parent if asked!. I've taught hundreds in Johnson County over the last 5 yrs.(Year round @ Shawnee Civic Center) Anymore questions, just ask me and enjoy your nighr out!! Best Regards, C.

I haven't had to pay for a babysitter yet (I have an 8 month old and family who always want to watch him). But my friend who has a two year old has told me they pay between $5-$7/hour. Hope this helps a little bit?

We primarily rely on friends and neighbors to watch our two sons (ages 4 and 2), and just trade off so we can all occasionally get a night out without children!

But I have paid a teenage babysitter $6 per hour occasionally. We provide dinner (a pizza or something), and also provide transportation. (I've never used anyone more than 15.)

Enjoy your night out!
