Do you think $30 is to much to charge for watching a 6 month old from 6:30 am-4:30 pm? If so I am open to suggestions. Thanks!
I would be the one doing the babysitting for a friend of mine. He would supply diapers, food, etc. It could be a week at a time or just a few days at a time not sure just yet. I checked into a daycare and for an infant it was $185 a week. I think when you are doing it for a week at a time it needs to be a flat rate. I have never done anything like this and wasnt sure what to charge. Thanks!
is it just for one day or do you watch them for the whole week? we pay 172 for a week here, from 7 am to 5:30 pm, which is about 34.4 a day. It seems very reasonable to me.
I pay $10 an hour, so that would be $100.......$30 is CHEAP.
I kind of feel that you get what you pay for!
Let me edit my answer. Are you the babysitter? Then you should charge what makes it worth your while to babysit. Are you the mom and trying to decide if$30 is too much to pay? Then no, I don't think it is. Watching a 6 month old is tiring. Naps, feedings, and entertainment/enrichment, diaper changing, etc. I'd say at LEAST $50 is reasonable, if not more.

For our area a LICENSED DAYCARE would charge anywhere from $20 to $30 a day. ($10 an hour for ONE child sounds CRAZY to me! Must be where we're from..... NOBODY would pay that around here.)
If daycare in your area is $185, then $150 a week (or $30 a day) would be reasonable. However, daycares DO provide the food. (Whether it be baby food or table food. Parents provide the formula and diapers.)
I would say AT LEAST $8-10 an hour
Just to letcha know... full time care for an infant in our area (group setting) is $1600 a month. Nannies (aka 1 on 1) vary between $250 a week (part time) and $600 a week (full time) in the LOW range.
I agree - babysitting around me is $10 an hour for a responsible college student. I would be concerned that $30 for that length of time is too low..
I get paid $6.50 an hour to watch a 20-month old 9 to 5 (So about $52 a day).
How much a babysitter gets paid an hour depends on a few things... The area in which the babysitting would be taking place, and the age of the child.
Right now you or your babysitter (You didn't state which one you are) are/is getting paid about $3 an hour... Which is really cheap! I'd say about $7.50 or $8 an hour would be a fair rate for watching a 6 month old for 10 hours.
Is this one day, or an on going activity? It sounds reasonable to me either way. If you are going to do this on a regular basis consider your income needs and set a minimum # of days per week. A lot of providers agree to a daily rate and then the parents take so many random days off that the provider can not consistantly pay her own bills.

We paid highschool sitters a guarantee of $40 before they walked in our door at 7 and we got home around mindnight. We always paid $60-$80 cash and that was for 1 child from age 2 until about 13.

that is crazy low. $3 per hour! i wouldn't accept this if i were the care provider, nor would i expect good safe competent care for my child if i were the parent.

ABC Academy charges about $28 per day for an 8 hour shift. So I think you are at a good price especially if you are giving one on one attention. Good luck.
