so I babysit for a friend of mine. I go to her house when she needs me, baby is not even a year old but he's pretty active. So before i became the sitter i told her that i would only babysit, not cook or clean or do any nanny duties, she was fine with that and understands. I feel stuck, i said i wouldn't clean but I kinda want to. The hosue is so messy, the bathroom is a little gross and so is the kitchen and livingroom. I don't even want to ask if I can clean because i don't want her to expect it all the time, but I don't know how she will react if I clean her bathroom , etc. without telling her. Is it a good idea or bad idea to clean without telling her? How would u feel if somebody cleaned your hosue, would u feel that they are trying to tell u something or would u appreciate it and think nothing of it? I'm not a clean freak so i'm not looking for neatness or anything but there's a pile of dust and hairs everywhere, her furniture is black but looks white....

What can I do next?

I would suggest you cover up this question a bit and make it a win-win situation. Tell your friend that you need extra money and could clean for her in addition to your regular duties for a small raise if she thinks she needs the cleaning. This way you'll find out how she feels about cleaning in general and you may come out of it with more money and the place you work in will be clean.

If you feel like it, do it. If she asks, just telll her you were bored. She might offer you more to do it more often...

When my babysitters clean, I am happily surprised. I may even pay them more if I have it that day. I know when my house is a mess. Them cleaning is not what makes it known to me. But I'm busy and often the housecleaning gets put on the bottom of the list when I have more than I can handle going on. I'm grateful for the extra help whenever it is given.

I would definitely clean the toilet and any obvious nastiness. Hell, she might not even notice, so don't expect any kind of thank you. Good luck!

Just clean and if she ask or thanks you just say you had some extra time because the baby was asleep or playing so you have control of when you clean in the future if you choose to. It gets so hard for working moms and then expected to come home and still take care of the home, children and dinner that I think anything you do would a blessing to her.

I would not go all out and clean the entire room. I might clean the toilet seat and sink area so it would be more sanitary when I am using it.

If you clean it once she will come home every day hoping to see it done again and disappointed if it's not.
