Babybook Handprints and Footprints

My son was born this past Friday and, in the busy-ness of the hospital stay, we never got the nursing staff to print his hands and feet for his baby book. I'd like to do this at home this week before he grows too big, but have no idea what kind of ink to use. Any suggestions? I was planning on getting a regular ink pad for stamps but didn't know whether that would work. Thanks for any ideas!

What can I do next?

HI T., I don't know what kind of ink to use, but I do have a tip for you. When you do the prints in the book put a piece of waxed paper on top of the prints to keep them from smudging onto the other pages. Good luck!

congrats on the arrival of your little one! i did this with my son to sign his grandpas card the year he was born cause he was only 2 weeks old. i just used a stamp ink pad and rubbed it on his foot and it made a great footprint. try to do it while he is sleeping, it make it easier! then just wipe it off when you are done and it might be stained for a day or so but it will come off. good luck!

We bought an ink pad specially for hand prints (big square pad) at Michaels. Just ask someone there, they'll help you find it, and it washes off with soap and water. We use it to put our son's hand prints in birthday cards for grandparents, etc.

Don't use regualr ink pads! His hands & feet will be stained for a long time, plus they are not made for that use. I don't know if the chemicals in it would be absorbed into your baby's skin.
My suggestion is to call the hospital & ask if they will do the printing or ask for the pads that they use. Most hospitals now use a mess free pad that sticks to the paper & doesn't leave any ink on the baby.
If nothing else you could brush a thin layer of finger paint on his hands & feet to do prints. Finger paint washes off easily & most leave just a little color.

Congratulations on your new baby!

God bless!

They sell special ink for babies. If you google "ink for baby footprints", you can find someplace near you that you can get it, or you can order it from Amazon. I think they might also sell it a Babies R Us.

One thing I found out the hard way...get the prints while you're baby it sleeping. That way he won't move around too much.

Good luck!

one thing I know is that they do the feet in the hospital. a newborns hands tend to stay pretty much fisted. I did this with my son on a wooden picture frame, we dipped the bottom of his foot in paint and put footprints all around teh edge of the frame. We have it hanging at the foot of our stairs and I see it everynight on my way to bed, Its awesome to see his little feet and picture on the way up the stairs!

there are sets you can buy at babies R us or even Target in the baby section. Or call the hospital where he was born and they would tell you or ask if you could bring him back in for them to do it!

I bought a baby book at Babies R Us a couple weeks ago that had an ink stamp in it for that purpose.

They are required to do the foot print in the hospital I thought. Call the hospital's nursery and ask them for a copy. I know I had to specifically ask for a copy for my baby book. They do it for records.
