Hoppy easter!

I love Easter, and would love to put together an Easter basket, or some other gift for my very bright and precocious 9 month old daughter. What to fill a small basket with? Or should I give another gift altogether? Any suggestions anyone?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone with their easter basket suggestions(but I can skip the respones who didn't want to have fun with it because my daughter "wouldn't have a clue.") I put a jar of her fave baby food, a couple of teething biscuits (these were a great suggestion), both wrapped with bows, a couple of chew toys shaped like bunnies, and some very shiny, chrome colored plastic Easter eggs(empty) to play with. When presented with the felt basket, she squeeled with delight, dumped it over, pulled out the large gold egg first, then the baby food jar and tried to take the ribbon off, then foud the biscuits, took the bow off, managed to open them and dug in! (how's that for clueless?) So, overall it was great fun to watch. We even taped a few minutes of it. Thanks again everone!

Ditto on the gerber stuff and fun snack foods! Also, I got my son an Easter basket (cheap one) and got Crayola age appropriate stuff, like those wobbler crayons and little fun toys, like the new weebles.

I didn't do candy last year, the Easter Bunny (and grandma) did, but had an Easter egg hunt with stickers, mini games and stuff. Last year I discovered Wal-Mart has an amazing selection of inexpensive toys for a buck or two and since the attraction ends quickly it's no biggie.

Even just hunting for the fun colored Easter eggs is exciting!

The Easter bunny left biter biscuits, jars of baby food, snacks like cheerios or gerber stuff, board books and rattles/infant toys, etc. when my kids were babies. And some candy for mom and dad too. =)

This may be too late but here goes. My baby is eleven months old. I got a baby sized basket from the card aisle at the grocery store! It's plush. I put in a little stuffed bunny, a my first Easter bib, and a bunny rattle. Good luck!

Hi M., Happy Easter! How about a book with fuzzy chicks and bright colors for your daughter, and a stuffed animal. Every child loves those things for years. A "bossy" 9 month old? you're scaring me...

The real reason for Easter is that Christ has risen, he loves us and gives us his grace. God's unearned love and favor. We can have comfort in that.

have a great time! Deb

Small books such as Beatrix Potter or flower fairies are nice. Perhaps you could add a
stuffed animal such as a rabbit to go with it.

We usually do toys, books, art supplies in our daughter's Easter baskets rather than candy-type stuff.

I would suggest getting her some new toys, a new shirt or outfit (more for you then her but still fun to get), new sippy cup, pacifier, blanket, a small box of one of her favorite snacks, bubbles (my son loved bubbles and still does) and a nice card that you can put in her baby book. I too love the holidays and think that it is important to us moms to do something fun! Enjoy & Happy Easter!

For my children's firt baskets, I gave them books about Easter. (The board kind). Also, a small treat-- not sugary, just cereal.

Dear M.:

For my daughter's first Easter, my sister made her a wonderful basket. First of all, the basket was huge, sturdy and beautiful and, to this day, we've used it as a picnic and library book basket! Inside were squishy plastic bath books about the resurrection and the six days of creation (cute!). Also, some very fine puppets, a springtime outfit and a tin bunny ornament which we still use to decorate with. My daughter was only about three months old so this was all perfect.

Something we did the next year was to fill the basket with books, a gorgeous hat and we filled gaps in the basket with a string of colorful Easter Egg lights which we lit in front of her. She was thrilled! We took the lights and hung them out of her reach while she toddled about finding eggs.

The same basket has been used every year and I think it means a lot to her.

Best wishes,

M.

Use something reusable for the basket - either something that you will reuse every year or a bucket, wicker purse or other item that she can play with now. Put her snacks - Cheerios etc. - in a cute container. For the rest of the filling, get a storybook, balls or stuffed animal. :)

Happy Daughter's First Easter! :)

Hi M.,
For my sons first Easter, I made his basket and put things that he needed in it. He was 6 months old for his first Easter, so I put a new bottle, new pacifier, stuffed animal, a soft book, and a few toys. It was stuff that he needed anyways so I just wrapped it up, put the Easter bunny foot prints all over the living room (I use a stencil and sprinkle baby powder over it so it looks like the bunny hopped around the house) and that was it. He seemed to enjoy his new toys =) But I would definately get things that she needs since she doesn't understand what is going on =)...
Have a wonderful Easter,
Take care,
H.

I would start a savings account for your little one and contribute to it at least once per month. Other than than, I would get about 6 plastic eggs and hide them in a room of your house. I would not fill them with anything, though.

I know! I love Easter, too, and got a little bit carried away filling up my 20 month old girl's basket! I put in a lot of books, a couple of coloring books, crayons, bubbles, a cute little purse, and a CD with her name in each song. No candy and nothing too small or chockable.

Hello, and "Hoppy" Easter to you. I remember with my first child (13 years ago) I was in the same situation as you are and what I had done was gotten a Disney easter basket, nothing fancy it had Thumper glued to the front part of the basket. It was pretty small, I filled it with baby food. That's it. You have to understand that she will not remember it. And honestly, it's very appropriate for her age. You can also put a toy in it that is for her age group. DONE!
Don't worry too much about it, my son didn't think twice when I showed him the pictures of his first Easter basket. He actually laughed and thought it was cute. :)
God Bless,
M. A.

Hi, M.,

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER. I have started a new tradition with my children, and that was 21 years ago, but who's counting. And that is, I bought a beautiful basket that we have used since his first Easter. I put the basket out, the night before... Some times the eggs will be in that basket and the "Easter Bunny" will hide the eggs for the egg hunt when he wakes up the next morning. And when the eggs are hidden, the basket gets filled with Easter goodies. Depending on the age, but books, candy, toys, clothes, i.e. swim stuff, because it's the beginning of summer,( sun glasses, sun screen, towel, bathing suit, etc.) Always keep the real meaning of Easter in the basket, too. I'm Catholic so a Rosary and a prayer book, but best of all the basket is the same basket year after year. One of my son's has decorated his basket yearly and it's adorable. I usually use the old ribbons to also "decorate" the basket. But the Easter Bunny is the one basically who takes the eggs out, hides them and then fills the basket with Easter goodies. You're so lucky to have the next 25 years to keep doing this.

xoxo

Then I filled it with a Bubble Machine (kids love bubbles at any age.) I also put in a new hat (since the sun is shining more he needed to wear one.) A sippy cup I believe and a pair of spring time pj's.

It was great. Good luck and have a wonderful Easter.

Target usually has some cute Easter themed things like bunny ears, wooden toys, socks, etc. I'd include a little book, maybe a video (if she likes TV), a sun hat, a floatie for the pool, things that she'd use everyday but wrapped up and made special. Avoid the Easter grass! She's still little but it's no reason not to start some great family traditions.Have a wonderful Easter with your little lady!

I always go with a theme. Usually at 9 months I would get the ducky bath toys and some other bath toys and some books about ducks. My favorite is, Make Way For Ducklings. There are plenty of cute little board books for babies too. Another fun thing would be a bunny book, bath towel and pjs all with the same theme. My kids are 6 and 8 and still don't get much candy. This year its Webkinz, books and sand toys.

I know your excited for your baby's first Easter, but at 9 months old, she won't have a clue. At this age she just wants to put everything in her mouth. Save your ideas for next year when she can walk and run and look for eggs.

Hi M.

Well what I did for my 15 month old Granddaughter is I made her a basket with her favorite snackies in it. Goldfish crackers, Animal Crackers, Apple Juice, a book, she loves to read! things like that. I put in 2 pieces of chocolate and they are very small pieces. I know that her Mom and Dad do not want her to have many sweets, I agree.

I also made her a small basket to go with her room theme (Princess) and put in some clothing that she needs. as she is getting so tall she is growing out of everything so fast.

I think that it is wonderful to go through the holidays in my son's eyes I love being a Grandma.

I have a 11 month old who I'm doing a basket for also. I put some little toys in hers like bunny ears and bubbles, not for her to blow of course but she can try to catch them! BIG whistles, make sure nothing small enough to put in their little mouths and babies love them! Also, we didn't really want her to have candy because she's still pretty young but big brother is going to have some so we got her those marshmellow bunnies. In my husbands family it's tradition to get a new outfit including shoes! Have fun

Hello M.. I have a 4 week old and just purchased items for his basket today. I know he is too young, but even my 17 year old (as well as my 13 year old) is getting a basket - my kids will get baskets from me as long as I live. Anyway, I purchased a really cute bunny basket from Target (fluffy and cute, as opposed to the regular baskets my other kids have) and I bought two books, a pacifier, and a new outfit, as well as bubbles. I couldn't think of anything else to put in there but I had fun getting the stuff. :) Best of luck to you. :)

I try to stay away from alot of gifts and candy for Easter, because I don't want it to turn into just another holiday that the kids get spoiled. I do put together a basket with a few small toys and one or two candies, but that's it. When my kids were younger, I would put a DVD, or a small toy. (I stayed away from the stuffed animals because you end up with ALOT of those as the kids get older.) Now, I use Easter as a time to give each kids a new pool or sand toy and one cheap DVD or game. For my baby this year (11 months) I am putting a Blue's Clues DVD and a package of three "Little People". I will put one chocolate bunny in his basket so I can get some cute photos of him eating it (and then take the rest away, hehe). Instead of hiding candy around the house for the kids to find in the morning, I hide the plastic easter eggs, maybe with one or two candies in them.
