Baby Teeth Coming Out

Hi! So I had always thought that the baby teeth fall out in the order they came in right? My son is 6 and recently lost his first 2 bottom teeth. His most recent loss was 3 nights ago. His 2 top teeth are not loose yet. Tonight he was eating dinner and bit down on something and a 3rd bottom tooth just fell out and was bleeding. I thought the side teeth come out after the top teeth? This just seems out of order. So I was looking at his mouth and his bottom 2 permanent teeth that are coming up are really big and I think they have also pushed that side tooth out. I'm worried that there won't be enough room in his mouth for all his permanent teeth. What will happen when they all start to come in? It sounds like it would be painful. Has anyone had their kids go through this?Their dentist did tell me once that he has a small mouth and his baby teeth are very tight and close together. I take him to his cleanings every 6 months and he has no cavities. At his last check up they did x rays and she said all his teeth are looking great and should come in on time and straight. I might give the dentist a call about this tomorrow, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this happen?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok thanks. I do feel a little bit better now. I figured both my kids will need braces since I had them. My daughter is almost 9 and her dentist said to start thinking about taking her in for an orthodontic check just to see what they say. I hate to have my son go through teeth pulling and all that stuff. No parent does I guess :(

I am a dental hygienist and I also have a 6 year old losing teeth. It is very common for the bottom 4 teeth to come out before the top one's. Unfortunately when baby teeth don't have much spacing it is highly likely the child will need braces when the adult teeth come in. My son's teeth are very close together and he does not have room for his new teeth and they are already crowding. Fortunately with new findings in dentistry expansion is quite common. It is usually not painful for adult teeth to come in for kids like it is when baby teeth come in. Now a days they place expanders on the top and bottom teeth around age 7 or after their 6 years molars have erupted and the two top teeth have exfoliated. My son will need this as well. My best advice it to save money and plan on orthodontics in the next year or two because it is pricey but well worth it!! If expansion does not occur then in the future he may need permanent premolars removed to make room for all his adult teeth and expansion is much easier and better for long term! Ortho is done in two phases now. Expansion around age 7 or 8 and brackets usually age 12 but really depends on each case. Hope this helps!!

My kids haven't been loosing their teeth in the order they came in. They would get a batch of teeth come in all within days of each other so it would be hard. It's not out of the ordinary to loose 4 bottom teeth before loosing top teeth.
My oldest has had every single adult tooth save I think one come in before the baby tooth had completely fallen out. It's not caused any problems at all. They will sometimes come in a little crooked but move into place once the baby tooth has come out. We've only had to have one tooth removed through all of that. The only reason we had to have that one removed was because it had a crown that was preventing it from coming all the way out on it's own and was causing gum irritation.
If your dentist hasn't mentioned there not being enough room I wouldn't be worried. No need for an extra trip in.

The X-rays are pretty conclusive as to how straight they are lined up.

I think that his teeth will be fine, especially since you're taking such good care of them. If the doc sees a problem coming up in the next few years then address it then.

One family I worked for had small mouths but really big teeth. So by the time they were 7 or 8 they'd already have an average of 4 teeth each pulled. They'd wear devices that gently moved the teeth where they wanted them to go. Only a couple had to have actual full mouth all out braces. They have more kids than average so that means maybe 2 or 3 had braces. The point is, the dentist did drastic measures to assure the kiddo the least amount of drastic work when their teeth all finally came in grown.

If those 2 teeth aren't loose yet don't worry until the dentist looks at them at the next appointment. If there is an issue then do call and mention this to the office.

My daughter is 6 and just lost her first two bottom teeth in front. I was scared about a week ago because one of the bottom teeth totally came in before the second one was out, so she had the loose tooth, and her adult tooth behind it! Now that the baby one is out the adult tooth has moved right where it should be, but I thought that was odd. Shes my oldest though, I had crooked teeth and three years of braces, so I have been keeping an eye on things with her. Just weighing in. I hope your son doesn't have too much trouble!

Often, but not always. If the top teeth are ready to come out first, they will. I wouldn't worry about which teeth fall out first, unless he's losing molars, which is REALLY out of order.

If you have concerns, call his dentist.

Yeah, this happened to my youngest. The issue was that her adult teeth that were growing in were HUGE. Each adult tooth is at least twice the size of each baby tooth. So one tooth growing in would push 2 baby teeth out of the way. She's now 8 years old and has had a jaw expander in for a year and a half. You may want to consult with an orthodontist once your son's adult teeth begin growing in.

you can loose the uppers after the bottom 2 but not usually. The new teeth coming in are much bigger than the smaller baby teeth. They need to push out whatever is in their way. since they will eventually be where the bottom middle 2 are and overlap onto those side teeth they come out.
