Baby Sling or Wrap

I'm expecting Baby #2 very soon and I'm thinking about purchasing a sling or wrap.

I had a Baby Bjorn with my son and I didn't care for it. He didn't like it either so we only used it a handful of times.

I'm really looking for something that I will LOVE and use often. I do Attachment Parenting so I'm constantly nursing and wanting as much bonding time with baby as possible. It seems like a sling will keep her close to me and free-up my hands so I can still interact with my son.

Can anyone recommend a sling or wrap that they absolutely love?

I just bought one of the Maya baby slings. My friend used it and still uses it with her 1 year old. She swears by it so I'am definately excited to use it they are kind of expensive but according to her it is well worth it

I love my Baby Hawk carrier. I bought it when my daughter was a few months old and used it until just recently (she is almost 30 lbs and just too big for it---although they do have a toddler hawk which I considered, except I'm expecting again and a big ol' belly doesn't make a carrier very comfortable). Anyway, I bought mine at Tree City Diaper in Ann Arbor, now called The Little Seedling http://www.treecitydiapers.com/store/category/1085/400/Ba... Before I had the Baby Hawk, I used a moby wrap and really enjoyed it, too---I decided on the Baby Hawk because my moby wrap was too stretchy as my daughter got heavier. Good luck!

Hi L., I make ring slings. I've tried many different kinds and found none could compete with the versatility and comfort of the ring sling style. You can use one ring sling to carry your baby from newborn thru toddlerhood (really!), and use it in many different positions. You can visit my website at www.carrymeslings.com and either shop from the sling store or create your own custom order. Obviously, all my slings are handmade in the USA...another plus.:)
good luck!

I personally have a wrap and baby hawk - love the wrap, baby hawk isn't so nice to store. Friends of mine love the Ergo carrier & say it's completely comfortable. Any of my friends who got slings said they were ok for a short amount of time, but put strain on your shoulder. Happy shopping!

I would recommend to go to the following store
http://www.treecitydiapers.com/store/
I know it might be a long drive for you, but they let you try the slings they have in the store.
I used the Ergo Baby and loved it. (the child must be 4 months of age or older to use it.)

We used the bjorn and I didn't like it either. It seemed like it was hard to get it all buckled while keeping the baby steady and it hurt my neck! So we got a wrap from esty.com (people who make homemade items to sell) It is similar to the moby wrap and was much more comfortable! They have them at babies r us but they are so expensive! The one we got was $35 and it was the same thing basically. They are a little trick to put on, but once on it just feels like an extra tshirt with a pocket for baby. Yhere are several different ways to put it to including side ways and backpack.

Hi L., I was so confused by all the slings and wraps available when my son was born, that I decided just to make my own until I was convinced of what I wanted. I ended up loving the one I made. It was a tube sling, if you buy one of these type slings, they should be asking for at least 4 to 5 measurements, or it might not fit you. If you buy a maya or ring sling, these are totally adjustable by you every time you wear it, so there really aren't any measurements that you need (except maybe the basics). The reason that I liked the tube sling is because there wasn't any extra material to deal with. I used it from when he was little newborn and then used it as a hip carrier, that being said, it isn't as versatile as a ring sling. I never tried to nurse him in it.

I love both the Ergo and the Hotsling, I use them for different purposes. The Ergo is great for walks and grocery shopping, but the Hotsling is so easy for housework. I've used the Ergo from day #1 (with the infant insert) and it is by far the most comfortable.

Hi L.,

I tried them ALL with my daughter. Seriously ... have FIVE baby carries. FIVE!

The 2 I adore were the long long long piece of cloth that you wrap a millions times around you. (after awhile you get really good at it and it isn't so bad...but it IS hot in the summer.)

The second.... ERGO BABY!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. It is quick, easy, can accomodate an infant (you have to purchase the infant insert) or an older child. It is comfy to wear and not too hot. I LOVE this carrier. Can not say enough about it.

Check it out.

Oh... and if you buy through www.myfavoritebabycarrier.com
they have an extended return policy. I THINK it is 90 days. Maybe 60... anyway, it was long enough for you to use it extensively and see if you really like it.

good luck and congratulations on the baby! OH... and YEAH for another AP mama!!! :-)

I too had a bjorn w/ my first and was not impressed. I got this one from a friend who was very active in her La Laeche league. It is WONDERFUL. I can even hold my 5 year old in it (just to see if I could) and was shocked that it held him. It distributes the weight over both shoulders and is super easy to use. Plus, if you are going to nurse, I used it as a cover, and it worked like a charm. Also great for small blanket, changing pad, cover for my stroller, I could go on and on. Check out the clearance section. I bought a black one for $19.00. Good luck.

He was a preemie and it felt it gave us bonding time when he came home. It will allow you to breast feed freely/privately and also play with your other son or even chores. It was the only way I could get things done around the house or even get my self ready for the day. Being he was a preemie he was a very needy baby and wanted to be held constantly. My husband also was able to wear it.
Good luck and Congratulations!

Ergo carriers are the best! I used a hip hammock, baby bjorn, and a hotsling and hated them all (and so did my baby). Then a friend gave me her Ergo. It is amazing! It's not a sling, it's a front/side/back carrier, but they are unbelievably comfortable and very easy to use. You could carry your baby all day in it. The reason they are so comfortable is because all of the weight goes on your hips (just like mountain climber's backpack) and the straps are all padded fabric. They are a little pricey, but I think they are worth every penny. According to the video you can nurse with them, though I never tried. They have an insert for carrying infants also. I highly recommend you try one.

L.,
I bought/used a Mamma's Milk sling and loved it. The sling I bought was adjustable and cotton. My son like being real close to me so it did help when I needed two free hands. Here is the link: http://www.mammasmilk.com/slings_catalog.php
They also sell solarveil slings, which provides spf of 70+ for the baby.
Congrats on your soon to be addition.

Howdy,
I also HATED the bjorn ... so rigid, and the clasp not the easiest thing in the world. I recently gave birth to my second and got a SleepyWrap at sleepywrap.com I must say I ADORE IT!!! My daughter falls asleep the moment she is in it and it only took me looking briefly at the brochure that came with it to figure out how to put it on ... (less than 2 minutes). I have back problems due to my scoliosis and I must say this wrap is SO comfortable on my shoulders and back and is really supportive and I know she is not going anywhere. I am telling everyone who will listen around me to get one. By the way it is better than its competition that is made of more of t-shirt material that stretches out. Good luck with your second! I must say, my second baby experience has been beyond bliss!

Cheers!

I love the Ergo. My daughter is 20 lbs now and I still wear her on 3 mile walks. We use it multiple times a day. We love it!! My husband also wears it and it can adjust to fit either of us although there is a bit of a size difference.

Congratulations and good luck!
