I'm wondering if anyone has tried baby sign language with their children. I heard about a workshop March 25th in St Peters. So I'm just wondering if anyone has had any luck with it.

Hi, I am a speech pathologist and I definetely recommend sign language- I work with the 0-3 population and use it everyday it helps alleviate frustration and gives a child a way to communicate. Some good resources include: sign with me.com-signing time videos (at your local library or you can order them online). baby sign board books at Borders. I also used it with my daughter and it was great! Kids tend to learn language before they are able to talk. The workshop sounds great too. let me know if you need anymore information.

Hi T.,

My sister is a deaf education teacher and I come from a family that sign language was used often. I have a 7 year old and a 16 month old and I use sign language with both. I do know that it will help the frustration of your little ones communication if he or she learns sign. I hope I helped!

I have not tried it but it sounds interesting. Do you know the details or where I could look for them?

T.,

I worked with my daughter for a couple of months with sign language and she never signed. She started using words before signs so I gave up. Then my sitter started working with her on signs again and she began using words and signs. Some things she would use just one or the other and others she would use both. I think it really has helped her though. She is only 18 months old and has the vocabulary as her 3 year old cousin.

I did not do any classes or workshops on using sign language. I got a book from the library and that was all.

I hope this helps answer you question.
