Baby Names - Las Vegas,NV

I'm due with my second child 11-2-06 and it should be a boy. My husband and I can't agree on a name. He likes "country/western" names. Our first son's name is Cole (I picked) and he wants to name this one Wyatt - which I don't particularly like or Chase - which I really don't like. So I'm asking for helps and suggestions. I want something not too common but not "weird" either. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My son was born 10-14-06. My dh and I have agreed on "Wyatt Hayden." I'm still not a huge fan of Wyatt but I like the whole name much better than "Wyatt Garrett" which is what my dh wanted. He just can't get over Wyatt and I did get to name our first child - so I probably should just be happy with it LOL. So thank you everyone for your input, it really was helpful to me and I loved all the suggestions and appreciate that there were many I hadn't considered.

Thanks again!

Hi T.!
My husband and I just knew the perfect name for our son when we said it: Bailey Michael. Michael is his Dad's name and we figured if he hates Bailey later (remember the show, "Party of Five"? One of the cutest characters on that show was named Bailey and it always stuck), then he can always go by Michael. We also played around with Connor and Keifer. He's 17 months now and the name just fits. My husband is from England and his Mom suggested several "traditional" English names, like Howard, Edward, William, etc. but I wanted something a little different. My stepson's name is William, but we call him Liam for short. Good luck finding a name you both like!

Are you still looking for "country" names? I'm from the south, and you would think half of us came straight out of an old western movie (my aunt's name is Dolly-Belle, if that gives you some idea ;-). Anyway, boy's names... Clay? Luke? Justin? All popular with us southerners. ;-) Brett is nice. It's hard to give ideas to someone without knowing their personal taste. Although I agree with you, Wyatt isn't a very nice name...

I have 2 little boys and I'm done with kids, but I still love thinking up names!! ok, where to start? Landon, Jackson, Roman, Christian- those are all fairly under-used but not "out-there" names. If you want "country" you can't go wrong with city names, like Dallas, Austin, etc. You could pick out names based on decent (ie- Brennan or Logan for Irish). Or go Biblical- Daniel, Matthew, Noah, Gabriel- those are all timeless. I hope I've been of some help. If you want more (and I've got plenty) you can e-mail me at [email protected]____.com

Good luck!!

My husband and I had the same problem. I had a few names picked out I absolutely loved, but he didn't like. I just kept searching for names, and one day someone suggested a name to us, and we both looked at each other and said "That's it!" I do have a couple suggestions for you, but you can always look in baby name books or on the internet.

Quinn, Adrian, Aiden, Parker, Jackson, Hunter, Payton, J.T., Ray, Ramsey, Travis, Sawyer, C.J., Seth, Levi, and Luke or Lucas.

If I had more time I could probably come up with more, but I hope this helps.

I really wanted to name my son Christos. It is a Greek name (husband is 1/2 Greek). My husband really didn't like b/c he knew somebody with that name and didn't care for the person. He could go by Chris for short. We also tossed around Elias. Amazingly, he ended up being Joseph! I didn't really want Joseph, but I got to pick our daughters name, Alaina. So, I agreed to let him have the name he really wanted. We actually both agreed on our daughter's name that is due 11/3 (haha!) Naiya. It is hard when you have different tastes. He likes more simply names and I like more unique names. Good Luck with your name hunting!

I have a nephew named Wyatt William. I didn't like the name at first when my sister told us what she was going to name him. He was the 1st nephew/Grandson. I now love the name & can't think of him being called anything but Wyatt. I don't associate it with the western, and am sure kids won't have seen it either. Besides, for a boy, it might be fun to be tought of as a cowboy. Good luck & hope you can agree with a name.

Naming children can be tough sometimes. Especially because a name is for life. What a job for parents, hungh? Here are some boys names I thought of, but I don't know how "country/western" sounding these would be to your husband:
Warren (I like it MUCH better than Wyatt)
Chance (somewhat like Chase...)
Levi (This was on my top 3 for my son, but my husband didn't like it...I don't know why)
Sawyer (I think this sounds Country/Western. Someone at work gave their son this name & it is growing on me)
Clark
Grant
Owen
Ty
Bo/Beau
Will
Gage (this one might be a bit too unique)
All The Best,

Well, if he likes western names, how about Hunter? I know it's fairly common now. There are lots of names that end in "den" like Braeden, Kayden, Greydon - those all sound sort of "country/western" to me. But again, they may be too common. I also saw the name Greyson once. I thought that was a good name and definitely not common.

Hi T.,

I understand this frustrating situation. I had my third, 18 months ago, a little boy, and my husband and I had a very difficult time deciding on a name. We went ahead each at different times, looked at our baby name book. I wrote my favorite names on a piece of paper, then he did the same, on a separate piece of paper. From that point we kept our lists, looked over the others and checked the ones, we were DEFINATELY NOT going to name the baby. As time went on, we were still undecided, and kept on picking names, and adding to our lists. Well I had my son at my sisters, in her bathtub, yes by choice, my husband watched our son be born, and almost audibly, I heard the name Samuel, I told my husband and with tears in his eyes he said "YES" that's it!! Well that is what we named him, and without even realizing it, we both at different times had picked that name.:) After Sam was born we re-verified the lists, whoohoo!! Just don't stress over it, it will come.

Be blessed!

A baby name should be a name they can grow up with you are not just naming little boys you are naming men. Maybe something like Joseph he can grow up Joe or Joey, William can be Will or Bill. The classic "adult names" have sort of gone out of fashion so it would be unique among the many "weird" named kids out there.

My grandson's name is Chase and I was apprehensive about it at first. His 3 yo sister named him. Her name is Monet because my daughter liked the painter and the name. She wanted to name their boy Joseph, after his paternal grandfather but her husband refused that one. And so my daughter suggested that they consider artists' names to follow the pattern started with Monet but they couldn't think of any artists names that they liked.

Years before this I had given my daughter a museum poster of a painting of a lake in a park with kids sailing toy boats. The artist was named something Chase. As a last resort idea I suggested Chase which they bounced around off and of for a few weeks. The week he was to be born Mom and Dad were discussing names and one of them suggested that they ask Monet what she thought. She immediately chose Chase and Chase it was. None of us were too sure we liked the name but they stuck with it and now we all love it. Now that he's a toddler he looks like a Chase to me probably because he's so full of energy. The name didn't seem to quite fit when he was a small baby. Sometimes someone won't understand his name when I say it and so I add "Chase like you have to chase him when he runs." Corny I know but fun, too.

I've been surprised to meet a couple more boys named Chase since then. I like uncommon names and Chase still fits that idea. I do wonder where the name Chase came from for other people.

I like several of the other names suggested on this site, too.

I never thought that we would come to an agreement since we are sooooo opposite from eachother on everything... But Im due 10-25-06 and we are going to name our son Brayden Lynn... which Ive never heard that name... plus its neat cause you can spell it a ton of ways... Brayden, Braeden, braden, etc... I wanted to spell it braeden but my husband thought that would be hard for our child and other people to spell... oh well I like the name though and at least we agreed on one... Finally!
I hope that this may help you, everyone is different with naming a child but I thought it was wierd that I was in the same position about a month ago when we couldnt agree on one name at all... LOL

Ah the name game. My sone was Baby Boy until about an hour before we left the hospital. He was almost Camron, but had family issues with that one. So we decided on Dawson Lane which I really like. Originally would have been Corbin Dallas (a character from the Fifth Element) just cuz I really like that name, but couldn't do it, the movie was too popular at the time. Oh and NO my son Dawson is not named for Dawson's Creek. Dawson in German means Dave's son. :-)

I was going to name ours if it was a boy Kyle Thomas... I do not particularly like Wyatt. I keep thinking of Wyatt Earp from the movie.

I know you have a new list of possible names, but if your husband is still insisting on a name you don't like, you could always use that name as the nickname and use a more formal name for the "official" name (like you could call the baby Chase, but his actual name could be Charles, or something like that)

Well, I'm partial to Jackson, since that's what we named our son, but it is getting way popular right now. But I love it so much, I don't care. I also really love the name Charlie. Not Charles, but Charlie. I think it sounds so cute for a little boy, and would not be terribly common for a teen/young adult and would work for an adult and an old man. I love it, to me it sounds very masculine, very down to earth and fun. When I think of a man named Charlie, I think of a guy who is the life of the party, but also has strong morals and a good work ethic...much like what I think of when I hear the name Jack. Unfortunately if our second is a boy (whenever that is!) I will not get to name him that because my husband hates it. He loves the name Nathan, which I hate so we need to pick a different name. We both like Noah and Gavin. We also like Marcus and Lucas, but neither sound that great with our last name. I also like the names Jim, Adam, Ryan and Paul. I totally look forward to hearing what you decide! I love picking names!!

I think you just have to keep trying. Me and my husband would each come up with lists of names. We would take time to read them to each other and if one of us didn’t immediately say OK we would continue on. Keep all of the OK names on a new list and decide from there. The more lists you create the more variety you have. Before we knew the sex of our baby we had figured out the boy name quickly but the girl name was still up in the air. Brandon is our baby boy and we both loved the name once we said it out loud. The middle name took months of more debate. lol.
