I am pregnant with my second child and my husband and I have been kicking around names for a girl. I just wanted an opinion. We were thinking about Gianna but my daughter's name is Arianna. So is it just too weired to have Arianna and Gianna? The other name we were thinking about is Gia. I'm also open to other girl name suggestions preferraby from the Greek or Latin origin. Any opinions/ideas? Be nice!

So What Happened?

I also love the name Victoria. My husband does not like it. I think names that end with an "A" are very feminine. I don't like names that could be a boy or girl name although some of them are really nice names, I just like my child's name to be very gender specific. No point to that statement. I'm just rambling. In a few weeks we will find out if we are a having a boy or a girl. We already have Dominic Anthony picked out for a boy. I have a feeling I'm having another girl. We had a really hard time agreeing to a girl name last time. I'm drawn back to the other girl names I liked then and that my husband didn't like or we argued over the spelling....UUUGGHHH!

I personally am not crazy about ryhming names for siblings. But I do like that both names for the girls end with "a". Gia is a pretty name and it is not "half a name". Nor is Tia, Mia or Nia. At the end of the day, go for what you like. In my own experience, the names that I kept going back to when I was looking at names for my children are the names I ended up picking because I knew that is what I really liked. Have fun and good luck!

I personally like the way Arianna and Gianna sound together. AS long as you like it thats all that should count. Some people jump to conclusions like if people name their kids with the same first letter. Its not their family so who cares:)

I like Gia. Gianna may be confusing, and may get shortened to Gia anyway. There is also Giavanna, but it is WAY to common now. I work in a health clinic and Giovanna/ Giavanni is the most common name, along with Jayden/Jaylen and Aiden for boys.

sorry, i dont feel right telling anyone what or what not to name thier kids..but i will say that i think both of those names are beautiful...and nothing is wrong with gianna and arianna...they are both incredible names...strong yet delicate, empowered and feminine...i know a woman that has twins whose names are(i am going to mess this up so i am spelling it phonetically)alahandra and arianna and two more girls named natalia and julia..you have to do what you feel comfortable with...i have two kids..Cole and Ella..and i was worried that if people asked me my kids names and i said Cole and Ella that it would not be understood because they kind of roll together..and then i worried about the name Ella and it sounding strange with her last name...i got over it and now i am so happy i did...try it out..say them out loud...talk to the baby and call her gianna...say it with the last name...if you get goosebumps and feel excitement when you say it, its right...it sounds wierd, but you know when you got the right name...take care...i wish you the best..R.

I love the name Gianna, especially since my daughter is Gianna. Gianna Lucia to be exact. Dont be bothered by the rhymning of Arianna and Gianna. It will be twice as nice.
Other names we considered before Gianna was Adia, Avianna, Lucia, Mia, Gia, Nia, and Victoria.

I like both of those names! Gia and Gianna are both nice and I don't think it would be strange to have the two names Arianna and Gianna together. My one girlfriend just named her daughter Giara, which would be a good choice too (would make it a little different but not too different). I love Greek and Latin names myself-my daughter's name is Phaedra-and mine is Latin. It is always so much fun picking names! Good luck finding one that is the right fit for your new addition!

I am so so so so jealous. We just had a baby and we were going to name her gianna and call her gia for short and than at the last minute changed our minds and named her Trinity. I love both Gianna and Gia let me know what you decide. I am hoping to have another girl some day so i can use the names myself... lol... Although we already have two girls so i should be hoping for a boy I suppose.

I say go with the name that you like Gianna. Even if your daughters name is close. You can still call her Gia as a nickname. My name is S. and my sisters name is Tara. So my parents did the same thing. They like both the names. Hope its helps.

I think the two names go very well together. It's not like they rhyme too much - as in if they had the same syllables. I had a friend Gianna in high school and my cousin's name is Gia. One option is to name her Gianna, but call her Gia.
Congratulations on your pregnancy however! I hope the next few weeks go smoothly for you! How exciting!

I love the name Gia. Well I am a little Bias because that is my sisters name. Actually her real name is Gianina after our mom Nina. But we have always called her Gia. I swore she was the only Gia out there, but it would be cool to have two Gia's. Gia is a very unique name and you can garantee there won't be many out there with the same name, unlike most names these days. Fantastic Choice in names. Any name you pick will be great and very special. Don't let anyone tell you any different! Good luck

My husband has twin sisters named Mary Ann and Mary Kate. They are 43 years old, and have endured jokes about it all of their lives. While I love the name Gianna (St. Gianna Molla is an important role model for me), I think that it's too close to your other daughter's name. I'm not really fond of Gia. It just sounds like a nickname. I think that St. Gianna has a very interesting story. She had three daughters named Laura (in Italian you say, LAH-oo-rrah), Maria and Gianna Emanuela. I don't know if any of those names appeal to you. I had a friend growing up, whose name was Elisabeta. I always thought that was a great name.

Do what you love!!!! And forget the rest!!! I have a dear friend who named her kids, Noel, Noelle, and now the third name escapes me. But they are all basically the same name. And can you imagine what people said and still say about it. But she loves the names, her kids don't care and they are happy!!!! They are both beautiful names!!!!

Normally I would say to people to name your children however you feel comfortable. I know people where their kids names are just "flipped flopped", or all start with the same letter or end with the same letter, etc. Here you do state you think it is kinda weird yourself, that feeling may never go away, so personally if I felt it was weird for my own children, I would pick something else.

Best wishes

Hi,
I actuallly don't think Gianna is too similar to Arianna and I would definitely name her Gianna and call her Gia for short. My husband and I were contemplating naming our daughter Gianna but chose Arielle instead. Gianna is a beautiful name- I would definitely name her that.

Hi J.. My name is J.. I have 6 children and my youngest daughter is Gianna. I don't think it matters if your older daughter is Arianna. They are both beautiful names. They are both different enough so you will not confuse them and you can use nick names like Gia. We call our youngest GG. For Gianna Grace. GOOD LUCK

I love the name Gianna, however, I personally think it is too close to Arianna. I agree with the mom who wrote if you feel it might be weird for your daughters to have similar names then don't do it. Two thoughts to consider: it might feel weird to them as they get older and it may cause confusion.

If you like Gia but agree with the mom who feels it is a half name, perhaps you could call her by her first and middle name. For example, my niece's first name is Mia and her middle name is Rose. She is often called Mia Rose.

Congratulations and good luck on picking a name.

You can pronounce it differently. I know two Giannas, one with a long a and one with a short a. I also know a Jianna with a long a. Just make it the opposite of your other daughter's name. I LOVE the name Gia, that is actually Jianna's nickname, of course spelled Jia.

Hi J.
I love the name Gianna. Im afraid its becoming a very popular name though. There have been 5 teachers at my daughters school that have had babies in the last 4 months that all named their girls Gianna. My grandmothers name was Giavanna. I wanted to name my daughter that. Im italian but married an italian/german guy and our last name is too german to go with that beautiful name. Id also tell your husband that when he goes through labor HE can pick the name ! :-)

Good luck and let us know what you pick out.

Hi J.! I think that Arianna and Gianna actually go nice together and if that is the name you love, go for it!! Then again, you may see her when she is born and say "nope, not a Gianna". For now - do what you like and remember that you want names that go. Arianna and Gianna DEFINITELY go :o) And, if you go with Gia for short it doesn't sound too similar at all.

Good luck in your decision!

I think it is a beautiful name. If you are still hesitant on your choice look in Greek and Roman mythology books. They are a wealth of information when it comes to exotic names. Both of my children have different names- my daughter's being Cattibrie Gabrielle (taken from R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy & Xena's sidekick) and my son's is Acheron Alexander (a location in Greece or Hades according to Greek myths and "the Great"). When in absolute doubt wait until you see your beautiful little girl for the first time. The right name for her will be there when you see her face. Congratulations on your second child!
