We have the fisher price lights and sound with the duel receiver that is rechargeable. We are so happy that we paid the extra for the rechargeable we never have to worry about batteries going dead. We like the two receivers because we can keep one in the bedroom and one in the living room so we can hear her from any point in the house without carrying around a receiver. Bottom line get the rechargeable it will pay for itself over time.

I, too, love my Sony monitor. It has both sound AND lights, so if you're working out in your house with headphones on or something you would see the lights respond to the noise in the room. Also, it has a function where it will only 'turn on' when the baby makes noise if you choose that function. That's been nice because you're not listening to fuzzy white noise all the time. Finally, we've run a white noise machine and a cd with the monitor on but the monitor only transmits sound when the baby makes a noise. That was especially nice in the first few weeks when the white noise machine was running all night and I didn't have to hear it.

For my second child I was given an Angel monitor. It has the board that goes underneath the mattress and will sound an alram if it cannot detect movement (breathing) after a certain period of time. It went off only once and I was so happy that i had it. It gave us a real peace of mind.

HI J. W,
I do not recommend using an LCD - it's not necessary. They are really expensive and I think would cause more worry than needed. I got the fisher price one and it works just fine. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done.
Hope that helps!

We had the Angelcare Monitor for our baby. I loved it, because it had the movement sensor for under her mattress. It helped ease my mind that she was okay, so I didn't have to open the door to check on her (which would wake her up if I did!).

We have an older Fisher Price one that I LOVE...can hear the baby breathe on it which annoyed my husband when I turned it up to hear them breathe, but I sure liked it when the babies were first born! :) Now I keep it in the hallway and can hear anybody in each of the 5 rooms upstairs when they start to move around or talk when waking up.

Hi J.,
I absolutely LOVE having an LCD. For instance, right now I can see my daughter standing in her crib playing and I don't have to wonder if she's crying cos she dropped a paci or cos her arms is stuck in the crib :)
She is a restless sleeper and has always been so once we got it, we just loved seeing that she was just tossing and turning and making a little cry sound... we used to run up the stairs and walking in the room was worse cos she thought we were picking her up.
To me, once I got it, there was no comparison to actually watch her play, sleep, move.... I know they're pricey but you can always re-sell it for a decent price. I don't think I will ever get rid of it :)

We have the Fisher-Price Sounds N Lights Dual Monitor and we are very pleased with it. It has two receivers and two channels, and the sound quality is really great.

You can look at Target.com. They have reviews of most of their products. The reviews are done by actual people and they are good and bad. It's really helped me out.

there are several good brands, but what we found most useful is having 2 receivers.

my graco basic one bought through target on line works well. it's range stretches to my neighbors. I also have a color video one that in concept works great but the reception is often terrible. it is made by summer and is expensive. If it worked, it would be fab as then you can check the baby without going into the room.
