My daughter turns 7 months today! She is a healthy baby weighing a little over 18lbs. She can sit on her own. Plays with toys but she hated tummy time. She really doesn't roll over. I told her pediatrician about 2 weeks ago & he said it was fine. Some babies arnt interested in rolling. Now Im concerned because she doesnt bear any weight on her legs. She wont stand when I lift her. Is this something I should worry about? When she lays down she kicks & can hold her toes. I'm just worried because I know other babies at this age that are bouncing! Are there any leg exercises I can do with her? Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I guess my post did come off like I was comparing my daughter to other babies but I wrote the post after 2 people asked me in the same day why she didnt stand. Then I thought about it & said you are right because I tried to show them she did & she wouldnt :( So I was trying to remember when babies do certain thing. I know that they are just estimated & babies will do their thing I just want to be proactive & If their was a problem address it ASAP. Having said that, she doesnt have a walker or activity center. She doesnt crawl. However today she started rolling!! Im so happy. She is getting the hang of it & she is yapping away too. She said MAMA! I will get her that bouncer I think she will like that & a walker. If Im still in doubt then we will make a trip to the pediatrician again but I think I need to give her time. Thanks for sharing your thought :)

I loved the Johnny Jump Up, the bouncy chair swing thing that you can hang in a doorway. Baby bounces down and "pushes" off, which I bet is pretty good leg exercise, and super fun too.

Also, exersaucers are pretty good, especially if you keep them low enough that their feet go flat. It helps bear some of the weight while giving them the feeling of standing up.

18pds..wow now i feel my 23 pd 2 yr old is really small. I would not worry at this point. my son hated tummy time too. he wasnt to interested in rolling alot intill 8 mnths then he rolled everywhere instead of learning to crawl which he finally did at 10 mnths. Now he is 2 and runs everywhere! all kids develope at a different rate.

My daughter didn't like tummy time either, she would get upset when I placed her on her tummy. My daughther loved her exersaucer and her johnny jumper, both will help build up her leg muscles, while supporting her at the same time. I know its hard, but I wouldn't worry if the ped said everything was ok. My daughter didn't walk till almost 13 months and I can remember thinking she was never going to walk. All the moms at the park w/their stories of their kids walking at 7 & 8 months, (oye). The truth is they will do things in their own time.

Here is a rule of thumb..............if you are worried get another opinion from a pediatrician! While you are waiting for that appt. take a towel, roll like a log and stick under the baby's tummy and see if that doesn't help give some support; this usually help the baby feel better. Babies do develop at different stages, however it is always better to get another opinion. If you have insurance and they will cover it, maybe a developmental pediatrician would make you feel better. Sometimes it is better not to wait. Good luck

My daughter didn't enjoy tummy time- I forget when she was ok on her tummy. At your next appt hav her DR check her legs- if nothing's wrong- don't worrie too much.

I had my daughter ck'd out at schriners hospital @ her 9 month ck up her pedi noticed she had "tight hips" we had x rays done & a follow up appt everything was ok. It was good to have her ck'd out.

Here's some advice- All children/babies will roll over, crawl, walk & talk at diff rates their teeth may come in 1 by 1 or a few at a time. if your really worried take her in. It's always better to take her in & find out it was nothing VS not taking her in & finding out there was something wrong. I'm sure she'll be running around in no time.. & you'll wonder where the time has gone.

Dont worrie partyoffive you got this!!

Hello, Your daughter will be fine. Don't try and compare her with other babies. She is sitting up, so she is developing. Every baby/child has things they do earlier than other children, and things they do later than other chldren. Just relax and enjoy her. When you play with her just hold the bottom of her little legs and move them up and down. This will help her. My oldest grandson was very reluctant to lay on his tummy and didn't crawl. He was quite chunky. He is 15 now and is very athletic and slim and trim.
Good luck with your precious little girl.

I second the other mom on the johnny bouncer. Jump-n-go is what we had for both our babies. Also, if you have an exersaucer, that is good for leg strengthening.
It's hard not to compare your baby to others, but try not to worry- all babies are different. I don't think you should be too concerned about it. Some just take longer than others. There's nothing wrong with that. I have always thought that the larger the baby, the longer it takes on the gross motor skills. They just have a lot more weight to move around! My first was this way while my second smaller baby, has been reaching the gross motor skills much faster. I don't know if there is any truth in that- just my general observation... lol

I would get her an activity center for her to sit in and jump in. My baby loved tummy time, hated the Johnny Jumper, and loved his exersaucer (spelling?). There are so many awesome centers now that babies can sit in, walk in, play in, and do all sorts of things in while sitting in a seat and just moving themselves around. That might be the best for her to get used to being on her feet.

Remember, all babies are different. =)

does she have a walker? if yes, does she stand in it at all or do any walking in it? and dont compare your daughter to other babies, my older brother didnt walk until he was a little over 2. once he did there was no stopping him. i'd watch her and keep working on it. and if you are still concerned talk again to your pedi.

I havent had a chance to read all the previous responses - sorry if this is duplicative. Have you tried an "exer-saucer" type toy, where you put her in it and she can jump up and down as she plays with the toys? My kids loved them and it made their legs super strong... even though they still didnt walk until 14 months (not all the time at least). Also we had a jumper that hooked to the door way... also good to build leg muscles.

Good luck!

My first did not bear any weight on his legs till he was around 13 months. He did not walk till 15 months. He is 8 and fine now :)

The activity centers may or may not work. I got them for DS and he would put all his weight on his butt not feet.

Hello
Babies all develop at different times. My son loved the activity centers an walkers but refused any attempt at bearing weight on his legs otherwise. My pediatrician kept assuring me there was nothing wrong. Also around that time 2 of my nieces were walking at 10 months. My son finally took his first steps at 17 months and now he's 7 and fine :)
Milestones are just approximates and all three of my kids dislikes tummy time :)

Can she get up on all fours and/or is she crawling? Exersaucers are great. In all likelihood she is fine, but if your mama gut is telling you something is off, then seek a second opinion. DD had a mild case of hip dysplasia when she was born and had a brace from 4-6 mos. She rolled from tummy to back but never the other way around. She could bear weight on her legs early but didn't crawl. At 12 mos. she still never crawled, and was not walking. I was at this point thinking something was wrong but because she was well within the normal range of walking, the ped said not to worry. I put it aside. At 15 mos, her ortho gave us the info for the regional center as she was still not walking (only if we held both of her hands...did not stand alone). She was found to be nearly 50% behind on gross motor skills. We have been doing physical therapy since June and she took her first independent steps at just under 19 mos. and is making strides every day. So again....if your mama gut tells you get your DD checked, get a second opinion. Good luck!
