I am 23 weeks, my baby had been kicking for the past 2 weeks, fairly consistently and pleasingly strong....but this weekend...he as not been moving around as much and not as strong. Planning to call the doctor this morning, but wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your quick response! You made me feel so much better! And don't you know the little guy, is back to his old tricks of kicking and I think a new one...felt like he was rolling over in here last night!

With my son it got to a point where I hardly ever felt him move.
But I'd be fast asleep at night and my belly was kicking my husband out of the bed.
While I was up and moving I was rocking him to sleep.
When I was sleeping, he'd be partying all night long.
No wonder they come out having their days and night mixed up!

Yep, in fact I went to the hospital a couple of times, as soon as ultrasound rolled into the room he'd FINALLY start up again. More than likely he's changed positions and is kicking you in a spot with fewer nerve endings.

Drink a glass of orange juice or sweet tea, then lay on your left side for 30 minutes... counts the movements you feel, then call your doctor to report. That's what they're going to tell you to do anyway :)

At 23 weeks, baby still has tons of moving space, so chances are, baby is moving, you just can't feel it the way he's positioned ;)

My son (3rd pregnancy) used to freak me out like this ALL THE TIME... and he was fine ;)

How much were you moving around this weekend? The baby will rock to sleep in the womb as you are walking around so if you did a lot of walking and moving around over the weekend baby probably was contently sleeping. That's why as soon as you sit down to relax after a long day baby wakes up and starts to kick, the rocking stopped.

It doesn't hurt to call your doctor but please don't stress about it. The stress is bad for baby. Listen to Mozart, good for baby and very relaxing for Mommy.

:-)) congrats on the new little person

That happened to me several times when I was pregnant with my son. The doctor recommended that I lay down on ,my left side after drinking at leaast 24 ounces of water (I guess dehydration can be a major cause - even if you don't feel like you are dehydrated) and eating something sweet. After about 20 mins I would feel the baby move a lot. Definitely call the doctor. Anytime you are concerned it is best to get medical advice.

My daughter said that her baby would be active for awhile and then slow down for awhile and then be active again. Try not to worry about it. Calling the doctor is a good idea so that they can reassure you.

I asked my doctor about kick counts and he laughed at me. I've had 2 of the best doctors in the areas I've been in and they both had the same attitude. Even now at 28 weeks some days it's like he's running a marathon and other days I (or my husband) have to poke at him to get him going, he does move a lot at night though and that's pretty normal, you could just be sleeping through the most of the movement.

I agree that calling the doc is always a good idea. I think you are just fine and will have a wonderful baby very soon.

Back when I had my kids we never were told to drink water to help issues or lay on our sides or count kicks or anything. We just felt the baby move once a day at least. How simple for us but how good that now they know more about these things. All this to say, don't panic because in my day a kick or two a day was all we worried about and we l had healthy babies. Check with the doctor to ease your worry though.

I had a question about not feeling much movement and when I called in, the doctor suggested a kick count, which is what seems to be the popular answer here. Along with the other suggestions, my doctor recommended me doing the count at 7pm or later, because babies are more active in the evening.

Whenever either of my daughters were sluggish when I had to go to be monitored (I had 2 high risk pregancies) the nurse would give me graham crackers and some apple juice. That usually got them going, but as others have said, this can be normal so I know that telling you not to worry isn't going to make you stop worrying until you either talk to or see the doctor, but trust me......if this is your first, enjoy your insides while you can because w/in the next few weeks it is going to feel like the baby is using your bladder as a trampoline and bouncing off of everything else in there! Good luck!

if you notice a significant difference in movement, and it lasts for more then an hour or two, or you notice a "cool spot", you are pregnant, you know what i am talking about. you need to stop whatever you are doing and call your midwife, or doctor, if you call your doctor about the above concerns, lack, or serious decrease in movement, and he doesnt take your concerns seriously, say the word "LAWSUIT", and he will suddenly decide to see you.

At 23 weeks your baby is still pretty small...but you should be feeling him so a call is a good idea. That being said, I definitely had periods of time with both babies when I felt like their activity was lower than normal. I would call my doctor too; but try to drink some orange juice and lie down on your left side for about 20 minutes. You should feel him then.
