Last week, I asked "when to switch to soy?" I got some really good advice. I tried various different things, which did work, for a day or two. I took her in today to see her Dr. She has colic. Any advice? Atleast now I know that it isn't me doing something wrong. :o(

What can I do next?

Dear J.,

Since you are in the medical field, call around to find a doctor of osteopath (D.O.) who works w/children. They have the ability to do gentle manipulation - w/o pain. The baby may be out of line from birth.
My D.O. does this type of work.

Hi I totally understand what you are going through. My daughter had colic. It was horrible. They said it would go away by 3 months but she was 6 months when it fianlly did. There wasn't much that helped her. We tried the gas drops which helped a little. We could usually get her to calm down by bouncing her up and down on are knee. If she was bouncing she was happy. Warm bath are another great idea to. Also taking her outside just for a few minutes to get fresh air would calm her down. I have also heard of something called gripe water. I don't think it was out with my daughter. I think you can order it online at drugstore.com. It is all natural. My doctor told me about it. It is also good for teething I hear. I hope some of this helps. I know it is hard but you will get through it I promise. Good luck to you

Gripe water for sure. This has been a long-standing British tradition in our family and has merit to boot! Also after feedings, make sure you hold her by her armpits in front of you. This stretches out her little body and helps extend her little intestines a bit, easing the tension.

Good Morning J.~
Oh Oh Oh Colic, my first son had that and ugh it can be so rough for you and daddy. My dr gave us some good advice. He suggested we play soft music near him, run the vaccuum cleaner, or set the washer on spin cycle and put baby in the carseat and set baby on top. Something about the noise is really soothing. Another option that they have now that my sister used for her 10 month old when he had colic. You can get them at Fred Meyer or Kroger (same store) in the nutrional section, they are all natural colic tablets. They are tiny little vitamins that dissolve instantly.
I wish they were around 14 yrs ago. They have them now though and they are terrific for helping with colic, the best part is that they are all natural.

Good Luck hope this helps.

When my son had colic, he had really bad gas and he had it all the time. Gas medicine helped alot. We usually used the generic Equate brand. Also rubbing his tummy and moving his legs helped too but mostly the gas medicine did the trick.

good luck

use baby magic tea to soothe your lo from colic. if you breastfeed your baby then it's better that you also drink this tea and pass it through your milk supply.

Try Gripe water. If that doesn't work, take her to a naturopath. Naturopaths are great at solving mysteries like this. It's worth the expense - just find one someone recommends. Gripe water has been around for generations. Europe and the Middle East they use it all the time. You can purchase it at Pita King in Everett - I've seen it there, you can call around to the various middle eastern and European delicatessans and one of them is bound to have it. I used it with my daughter. It was a godsend. The Arabs also use Rose Water which also helps digestion and Mazahar which is Orange blossom water. The Arabic stores might know about those as well.

If you haven't done so already I'd suggest reading The Happiest Baby on the Block by Harvey Karp. It will explain 'colic'.

My son was miserable with his colic. I know how it is. He grew out of it when he was about 4 months. Thank goodness! My ped prescribed belladonna. It is supposed to help settle their stomachs and help them sleep. It was such a life saver. He was a completely different child. AMAZING. You should ask your DR, because I tried EVERYTHING with my son. Gas drops, gripe water, prevacid, etc etc. Nothing works. My son liked to be carried outward...it helps with the gas. I wish you luck. I know it's frusterating, but if you get this rx it will save your lives :) Good luck.

I have seen many babies' colic symptoms disappear after a visit or two to the chiropractor where I work. I've worked there for 11 years and have probably seen this happen 10 times. It's worth a try, I think! There are special ways of adjusting an infant, no force is utilized. If you're in Western Washington and need someone in your area let me know, I can probably find one of my bosses' friends or colleagues for you. Good luck!

Hey J., I just learned something about colic and it being tied to pro-biotics in the tummy of the baby. Nestle Good-Start just came out with a new formula this week that has pro-biotic in it. It comes in a green can, and just came to the stores this week. I just changed my little pumpkin to it, and it works wonders. Mine is 9 months and is over the "colic" stage but I switched her anyway because I want her to have the "best" out there. Look it up on www.verybestbaby.com they have lots of info on it. Or you can just "google" probiotic and colic to see what you come up with, it's worth a try. I wish you good luck with colic, it was a very hard time for our family, but we got over it by 12 weeks. We tried everything from gas drops to gripe water, the only thing that seemed to calm her and relax her was me taking a bath with her. Every evening when she would get "fussed up" we would get in the bath and I would just let her float/swim around. It seemed to work great. By the time we got out she would be nice and tired, ready for bed. Take Care!
