Hey there, my 18 month old has recently been getting sores on her buttocks. They start out looking like a little pus filled blister and then they get very very red and flatten out but it gets hard and severely red and sore. It's almost like when u get a zit on ur face that is like under the skin and is soooooo red and painful . She keeps getting a new blister like everyday and some of hem just get red and go away and then there are others that turn into these painful mountainous sores. If I pick her up after she has been sitting, she screams so hard and her body tightens from the pain. I am going to start by cutting her juice intake because i heard that it could definitely be a factor. Please help!!!!!!!

What can I do next?

I don't want to scare you, but when my son was little, he was severely neutropenic and would get these. Take her to see a dr ASAP.

I would take my baby to the pediatrician and find out what's going on. Could be there is a simple, inexpensive fix like an ointment or recommendation of how to keep her clean and dry, etc. If you don't have a doctor, go to a CVS Minute Clinic or the same sort of deal at Walgreen's or other drug stores. They're less expensive and you can come without an appointment. Don't guess at what's causing it - find out and help her. Best of luck to you!

Hi,

Are they boils? If they are, they are an infection under the skin, and the area becomes red as you describe. Very tender and painful. They can develop white heads (similar to a pimple) and rupture. If they do, they will bleed if bad.

If they are, warm water soaks (use a clean fresh wash cloth and apply to the boils for 15 minutes or so) to relieve the pain she is in. Don't reuse the washcloths.

You need to see a doctor. Usually they prescribe antibiotics for these as they are an infection, and if not treated, could possibly spread or get worse.

Even if it's not boils - this must be painful for her, especially to sit on all day. I would get her in ASAP.

Good luck :)

I'm a big believer in daily, warm salt baths for all kids in diapers. Just fill a sink or tub with warm water a add sea salt, or Epsom Salt, or Dead Sea Salt, and maybe some Baking Soda, sit for a minute or two, towel dry. Let your baby's bottom be naked for a period of time each day.

But you also need to take your baby into her doctor and have the pus filled blisters checked for more serious concerns.

Sorry she's in so much pain.

After reading Retta's response, it made me think of my dad. he was in a nursing home and one of the other patients had MRSA. My dad got it through a wound. According to my mom, that is exactly what it looked like. A wound that got really bad and will not heal. You definitely need to get her in to the doc to get it checked.

My son had one just one bump like you are describing and I got him to the pediatrician ASAP. My family told me I was over reacting. Well it was MRSA!!

The doctor took one look walked out and came back in full protective gear.

Get in to see the doctor!!!

it sounds like a yeast infection. take her to the doctor. sometimes what starts out as a diaper rash can turn into yeast. she needs to be seen by a doctor. and yes cutting juice til you know for sure what it is sounds like a good plan.

She needs to be seen by a doctor. Possibly a dermatologist, but I'd start with the pediatrician. Call now, get her seen ASAP.

MRSA is extremely contagious! It's a virulent form of staph. Hospitals take extra precautions because it easily speads. Please treat it as MRSA until a doctor says it's not. Keep her bottom covered at all times. If she wears cloth diapers use chlorine bleach in the wash water to sanitize them. If she bathes in a tub sanitize that after every use. Do not touch her bottom with your skin bare.

I have seen people who had to have tissue removed. I urge you to take her to the doctor ASAP!

My daughter kept getting recurrent sores (boils) that were like you describe except they did not bleed. When I took her to the doctor, they told me it was most likely MRSA. I treated it as such until we were able to get her blood tests (full workup). The results indicated that her neutrophils were very low. She had something called neutropenia and it is basically that her skin was not defending itself well. Also, we had one of the boils drained and the results came back that it was not MRSA but another type of bacteria (Psuedomosis aruginosa (sp?)) that is normally occuring but because her immune system was not working properly (low neutrophils), it wasn't able to defend itself from that bacteria. If I were you, I would take her to her pediatrician asap. Demand a lab workup (bloodwork) to check her immune system. Also, see if they can drain one of the boils (pimples, or whatever they are) and have the fluid tested to see what kind of bacteria is causing the boil. Only then, will you actually know what you are dealing with. Also, if any of them get large or red, you really need to take her to the doctor to see if it is infected. If any of them are infected, she will need to be put on antibiotics to treat the infection. If the infection doesn't get treated in a timely manner, it can get serious fast and be very dangerous. You need to bathe her everyday and keep her diaper dry. I like to try antibiotic cream (neosporin) before I give her systemic antibiotic medicine since there can be side affects with that. Good luck and it's probably nothing. Just go to the doc asap. These are all just possibilities.
Also, just fyi, my daughter had autoimmune benign neutropenia. It was most likely triggered by the varicella vaccine that she had 2 weeks prior to having this skin problem. She had skin spots (probably about 5 at any given time, usually on her buttocks and legs, but other places sometimes) for about 1 year. This autoimmune benign neutropenia all started shortly after her 1st birthday and continued till she was almost 3. It just went away one day and haven't had any problems since. So weird. This is pretty rare, so it's probably not the problem your child has, but hopefully it helps know how to approach it.

I agree with others who say to take her to the doctor's office because it sounds like mrsa. My hubby had it and it took a couple months to clear up.

edited to add that he had to see a general surgeon to get 1 lanced and drained. Mrsa can get really serious and requires close monitoring.
