Ladies:

Our little boy was born 3 1/2 weeks ago, with a goodly amount of hair. I hear that the hair they are born with might all out and new hair might come in. when is that supposed to happen? what is your experience of it?

also, as re: eye color, when could you tell what color the eyes were set to be? my husband has green eyes, mine are brown. As of right now, the little one has eyes that are dark grey, but look green at some moments and brown at others.

thanks,
LSHA

My DD had a ton of almost black hair... it thinned out a little at about 3-6 weeks, but when she hit 3-4 months it REALLY went... she looked like an old man... but it grew back a reddish brown color fairly quickly, and now (6 months) she has enough to put a bow in again. :) Daddy has blue eyes, mine are brown... she started out with really dark gray but they went blue. :)

our daughter had dark hair that fell out and came back in blonde. She lost all the hair on the top of her head, but kept all the side hair, so we teased my grandpa that she took after him. :-)

Lori, Congradulations on your sweet little one. I have 5 children and believe me each of the 4 birth children were different the 5th we adopted as a teen. I have 2 grandchildren that were born with long jet black hair and neither has fallen out although we keep laughing at the boys receeding hairline which is just like grandpa's! I was so sad when the bos eyes went from dark brown to blue at 4 1/2 months, the girl never changes and stilll has beautiful dark eyes. My own daughter was born with dark brown eyes that turned blue then went back to light brown about age 9 months. Your baby sounds like he has the hazel eyes for now but give him time. You have many months to watch as these miracles develope. But don't bother checking daily for it as it will generally be gradual and will seem to suddenly happen. As for the hair I have to say that the brother's big sister still doesn't have as much hair as he did at birt ans she is 4 -- so be prepared that each child is different. Enjoy the thrill and the adventure of parenthood it will be the greatest thing you will ever do.

my son was born with the blue-est eyes and a mullet of redish blond(more red than blond) hair. i thought ooh what an awesome combination! wll i dont remember his hair falling out but his hair color is still changing and hes almost three. hes got more of a dirty blonde hair color with little tinges of red, and still has those gorgeous blue eyes! my niece was born with black hair and the darkest blue eyes, her hair turned blond at about 8 or 9 months (gradually) she wasnt born with much hair and she still doesnt have much (shes 7 weeks older than my son) and still has the same color eyes. im pretty sure my dr said if his eyes were gonna change they would do so in the irst 4 months i believe.... its been so long(only three years but i just cant seem to remember) i was wondering the same questions recently bc im about to have my second baby. grandma told me each child is different and not to expect the same out of this one as i did the first. Congrats on your new little bundle!!

My son had a brown mohawk for the first two years and his hair is still brown. He had grey-blue eyes till about two also--then they turned brown. My daughter is only 6 mos. she was born with a lot of very dark hair which gradually fell out for the most part--it is just beginning to grow back in and it is very light brown and blonde. her eyes started out grey-blue but are now more green. I am still waiting to see the final result. Her light hair is surprising as huddy and I both have very dark hair (we both have green eyes). But hubby had blonde hair as a child. It's so much fun to see how they turn out!

They are all different really. You should know the eye color at about 3 months tho. The hair will start getting thin in spots as the new hair starts to grow in.. sometimes it's hardly noticeable, sometimes they get huge bald spots that look pretty awkward for awhile. It's just fun to watch but very much unpredictable for the most part.

My twins were both born with blue eyes, but one twin had lighter blue eyes and was fairer in general (skin and blonde hair). By six months I asked my ped if the fair twin was going to keep her bright blue eyes and she said likely yes, since they were so blue with no hint of any other color. Well, she is 2.5 and still has the bluest eyes and blondest hair. As for the other twin, by 6 months her eyes had turned from dark blue to green, and now they are hazel brown. Took awhile to completely turn! As for the hair, they were both born pretty bald so they had nowhere to go but gain hair. FYI, my husband is of scandanavian descent and has blue eyes and blonde hair. I have dark brown eyes and medium hair, but my dad has blue green eyes so maybe some of those recessives came out!

Most caucasian babies are born with grey-blue eyes. Typically by 9 mos they will turn to their permanent color, although some people say their babies' turned after more than 1 year.

My little one's hair never fell out. but I think I read it usually starts by 6 weeks if it's going to happen.

My eyes were bluish-purple until I was about two. My parents thought they were going to stay, since we do have blue eyes in the family. At that point they turned dark brown and around age 10 they turned hazel.

I also kept my blonde hair until I was about 5 when it started slowly getting darker until it was brown.

All of my kids lost some hair and all in different spots, my oldest lost all of the hair around his head leaving the top untouched. My middle lost only the apex of his scalp. My DD only lost a small patch on the back of her head now showing a perfect layering effect.

Eyes, i am not sure, all of my kids are blue eyes because both me and my hubby have blue eyes. But I do know they were gray at birth.

Congrats on the baby.

some babies lose their hair. Some don't. My daughter had some hair when she was born and then some fell out, especially where her head was resting against the car seat and the crib.
In terms of eye color... one of my twins had blue eyes and they stayed bright blue until he was 14 months old and when he woke up, they were brown. It was the strangest thing. I have blue eyes and my older daughter has blue. So it was strange that they changed so late. I hadn't heard of that before.

My kids never lost all their hair then had it grow back in. An past co-worker of mine though was told that when she was a baby her mom went to get her in the morning and all her hair was on the bed, then it grew back in much darker. Also, some eye colors change some don't. My daughter was born with bright blue eyes and has kept them. My son't eyes were more similar to how you where describing your own son's. At three they are now a brownish color. There's still a little green in them as well. But that blueish/grey color is gone. Best wishes with your new little one!!!
