Baby Girl Name... Briella? Love It? Hate It?

I think Brie or Bria is really pretty, but I really don't like Briella, sorry. I have a freind who's husband got to name their 2nd child and he "invented" Briella. Neither parent like it now and they call her Breezy, for whatever that is worth. I just sounds weird to me , and kind of trashy, sorry!

I don't love it either-sorry. But I am not a fan of names that are or seem "made up". What about Amanda- Mandy for short. I like it with Mya.

In all honesty, I don't like it. I think it sounds contrived. Bree is okay if it's spelled like that and not like the cheese, but depending on if you're attracted to the "Br" part or the "ella" part of the name the most -I would probably go with something a bit more traditional that incorporates one of those. We know a family who just named their baby girl Stella. It's an oldie but goodie that you never really see or hear any more. It's really grown on me, and I love it now!

Briella seems like the name of a brand of pasta. :) However, in the end, the decision is entirely yours. Go with the name that makes you happy and disregard the input from everyone else ... me included.

My God daughters name is Ambrielle. Not my favorite name. Love the little girl but not the name lol. We call her Brie. Brie is ok. But Ambrielle reminds me of the word embryo lol.

I like Bree. NOt so hot on Briella--sorry but reminds me of Cruella DeVille. What about Breanne or Brianna or Brienna, then call her Bree.

Bree is nice. Brie is cheese. Not a fan of Briella. Sounds too princess-y.

I like Brie, but I do not like Briella, my first thought was that it sounds similiar to the mean lady on 101 Dalmations, Cruella.

Mya is a pretty name

The first thing I thought of was a mix between Bella (Beauty and the Beast) and Ariel (The Little Mermaid). So for that reason only, I am lukewarm. Don't absolutly love it, but don't hate it either. I say go for it, none of us matter anyway, she will be your little princess, after all!

When names are unique I like to look take a deeper look at them. After doing so, this name makes me think of a derivative of Gabriela. So that took me to Abriella. What do you think? Abrie? You also have to see what works with the last name.

Both are cute. When I think of Mya I think of dark hair..Briella can go either way. Just my opinion.

Not really keen on Briella , it sounds like part of a name. Like someone forgot to put the rest on there.
And Brie is a cheese. The reason why I never called my daughter Brianna by the nick name of "Brie"

Naturally, it reminds me of Gabriella, and I don't love that name either.

I do like Bria, though, for what it's worth. And Mya and Bria sound nice together. Maybe spell it Brya to be like Mya? Just a thought...

EDITED - Ok, after I re-read this, Brya looks like Bry-yah, with a long y sound... so if you used the y, I'd go with Breya, or just stick with Bria. LOL

It's a little too close for "braille" for my taste (the sequence of raised dots used by the blind to read) and when I look at it on paper, the first thing that jumped into my head when I saw Briella, was Bridezilla. I'm not a fan, sorry.

I think Briella is beautiful. Who cares what it says on the popularity list. Sometimes you should just do what isn't popular.

No for me. As a teacher I think really uncommon names stress kids out, because no one says or spells them right.

I like it. and I like that it is #1750th on the popularity list. I wouldn't automatically associate brie with cheese (well I kinda do now since it was mentioned) but its not anything I would have made fun of a kid for. I knew a girl growing up who had the name brei and she was a very nice girl.

Briella and Brie sound like them name of a cheese to me. BUT its really only important to you and your husband.

One thing to consider is having a name that is hard to pronounce. I think that names with two consequitive vowels present more challenges to the average american.

This comes from experience. Our last name has two vowels in a row, and my kids ALWAYS have to correct the pronunciation. Not insurmountable, but something to consider....

Briella sounds nice.

since you are asking... I personally don't care for the name, but I tend to prefer the very traditional names. My son is Josh and my baby girl (due in a couple of weeks) will be Sarah.

Looks too much like bridezilla to me, hafta say I hate it. Briya sounds better and looks cuter written out and matches with Mya.

You will know if it is the right one in your gut, it will just feel right.

I LOVE the name Briella! I totally know what the teacher was saying about unusual names stressing out a kid (and the school staff). But you said she would go by Brie on a day to day basis. How would you pronounce that? In my mind if I read the name Brie I would pronounce it to rhym with the word tree. I think that is a common enough name and pronunciation that it shouldn't stress anyone out too badly! : ) Again, I totally love the name!!!

I love the name Briella.

I named my Daughter Brieanna Rose and it wasnt a fashionable name then, but since then I have noticed there are more with this name and all spelled differently. Briella sounds beautiful and angelic....such a sweet sounding name for a precious girl!!! Go for it Girl!!!

I love it. It's not overly common and hold her own individuality without being too different. Growing up with that name, would make me happy. Good choice.

My daughter has a little girl in her class named Brielle. She and her mom are always told what a beautiful, unique name it is. I agree. SO go with Briella or Brielle.

I don't care about popularity. My son has an incredibly popular name, and my daughter's isn't even on the charts. Mine is also unusual. If you like the name, use it.

If you want an opinion as to whether we like it or not, I personally am not a fan, but I am sure that there are those that don't like my children's names either.

I like it but then again I named my daughter Brie-Lynne, and the "slight cheese association" has never been mentioned to myself or my daughter and she is now in kindergarten. OH, I will suggest a different name :-) Milla (pronounced Me-Lah). Mya and Milla go well together IMO.

I love it (Briella). It sounds very feminine and beautiful. Mya is nice too, but prefer Briella more.

Briella is beautiful, you will probably end up calling her Brie anyway. so just go with Briella-dont worry about the popularity-its not as common as "Emma" or "Sophia" anyway after you have your baby you always discover how popular a name can be! It sounds great, go with your gut!

I love it - call her Bri for short. I had a few "Bri's" I knew growing up and they were always popular and cute! I also really like Mya. I don't think you can go wrong. I love that the name Briella is not too "trendy" or odd, but that it isn't anywhere near the top of the popularity list! That is a good thing!

It sounds lovely. My husband and I end up being partial to Welsh names, ourselves, which are rarely common. Our younger (soon to be middle) son is Gareth, which is not even ranked on the social security website, ever. Our third child we just found out is another boy, but our girl name had been Branwen. I don't care what people think of it--it is a lovely Welsh name from a beautiful story, and I am a little sad we'll never use it. Our main concern with naming was always to make sure we liked the sound, we knew what it meant, and that the initials we picked would not add up to anything innappropriate or that a child could easily be made fun of for. (BJR, BSR, and BMR were not initials we were really willing to consider.) If you both like the name, go for it. :)

Oh, and I wouldn't worry about nicknames yet. They seem to come in spite of us. Personally, I LOVE cheese. Maybe I should consider cheese-like names for middle names since nobody likes the middle name we have in mind. :)

And we call Gareth Spudge. That has NOTHING to do with his name, but for some reason he gets called that almost as much as he is called Gareth.

First off, you should name your child whatever you like!

That said, there is one thing to consider here, which is the "Ella" ending. Names often are grouped in popularity by their sound or by endings, witness the names Braden, Caden, Graysen, etc. Even if the names are different from each other or even creative, they all still sound the same. In my daughter's pre-k class of 30 kids here are some of the girls' names (believe it or not, I am not making this up): Ella, Della, Stella, Isabella, Ella Katherine, Emma Katherine, Emma Kate, and Emma. Now throw Briella in there and see what happens? On its own it is lovely, but you also have to think about all those Briannas out there too.

I like it. Briella. You can alway call her Brie if you want. Who cares what it ranks on popularity. I have a son with a name that is 2nd most popular and a son who isn't any where on the list. But the names fit them. And I like both names.

Name your daughter what you like. Mya and Briella. Looks very pretty.

I love it. The fact that it is not popular makes me like it more. However it is not odd or anything to be made fun of. Beautiful and elegant.
I have a daughter named Isabella. I had no idea how popular it was, I had not heard of anyone named that. I am glad though because it completely fits her personality and I probably would not have used it.
With the son I am about to have I did my research, and it is an extremely rare name...Rowen.

I have a neice named Brielle . I love the other way of briella. Who cares what the popularity of it is. If you love it go for it. I named my little girls with less common names too and I'm glad I did. It will be nice for them not to have 3 kids in their class with the same name. Good luck deciding.

I am sorry to tell you that I do not like the name Briella, but I LOVE the name Brie, but you should spell it Bree. I also love the name Mya (I prefer the spelling Maya, though). Or, you drop the Bri and name her Ella. Ella is a beautiful name. If you can't decide, take your last name into consideration and decide which name sounds better with it.

EDIT - just thought of this - you can split Briella into Brie (but I would spell it Bree) and then Ella and switch it around, so her first name could be Ella and her middle name Bree. Ella Bree sounds great!
