I know baby acne is normal, especially in a breastfed baby, but is there anything you can do about it?

What can I do next?

Just take a perfume-free napkin n water and washed twice a day. Harsh soaps can make it worst. Even organic soaps. Also cut back on lotions and additives on yourself like around your breast. It will clear up in three of four days. If it worsen, see de doc.

nothing you can do...just wash his/her face regularly with warm water and soap...oh I hated it when my son would get it!! It would usually last for about two weeks. I think he had two breakouts...

don't panic, leave it alone, just wash their face well when bathing - it will all be fine (trust me, I've had 4)

YES! My pediatrician recommended Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser - pick it up at any drug store (I found it at Krogers). It is not in with the baby care products, just where you would find the regualar facial cleansers. I used it on my son (now 14 weeks old) just a few weeks ago and it worked wonderfully! It was available in a few different forms - I just bought the bar.

Hello My baby had baby acne all over her face and scalp. Her Pediatrician recommended the Celsun blue shampoo for her scalp and a lotion called Desowen 0.05%. These worked great. Her scalp cleared up after two uses and her face was clear by the next day. The lotion is by prescription but it is not expensive I paid $8 for three bottles. She still breaks out every so often but I put the lotion right away and her face clears beautifully within a couple of hours or the very next day. On the shampoo just leave it on for about 3 minutes then rinse it off. Careful with the eyes. Hope this works.

My child had the same problem, Dr. told me it was from when they burp and get milk back up and it gets on their face. Just try to keep it clean. It will go away. Good luck

My first son had baby acne, it didn't last long... You can try the colloidal oatmeal. You typically use it for rashes etc. It is a powder like consistency that you put in the bath, what I have done in the past is make a paste like form of it, and rub it on my kid's bites or whatever. It works wonders.. So my suggestion would be to put your baby in the bath, make a paste out of it and just rub it around on his face and use a warm cloth to wipe it off. Try and keep it on for a couple of minutes... good luck.. J.

I breastfed all of my children. I recommend that you change the products that you use. I have a place that sells very reasonably priced and safer products. It has helped the acne that my teens had as well as the eczema for all of my children.

Go to www.livetotalwellness.com/vjolly and fill out the information and I can give you a call to give you more information.

Try putting some expressed breast milk on it. Should clear up sooner then later doing this.

I was told that this is sometimes because the baby was in the womb a little longer(possibly due to hormones?). I was also told specifically not to clean with soap (unless its the normal bath time) as it would take LONGER to go away. I simply "washed" with plain water several times a day and it went away in about 3-4 days. Do not pick or try to "pop" the acne. All in all you need not to worry it will eventually go away on it's own!

My daughter had/has it! I went to the doctor b/c it got so bad. He told me to wash her face make sure it was dry and then put 1/2 % hydocortizone cream on it. I do this every night and it goes away. When I dont put it on it comes back. He told me to do this until she is about 4 months. She is now 2 months and it really works!!!!

Just check that your baby is not actually feeling too hot and that this is a heat rash.
Sometimes we tend to wrap small babies up and over-dress them.
The reaction is often a heat rash.

As far as I remember, there is not much you can do, just clean their face with water daily and try not to mess with it. I remember both my babies had it and I thought it would last forever, but it was only a few weeks (I think, maybe a couple of months, but definitely NOT forever). I breastfed both but never knew that was supposed to make it worse, unless it is just related to hormones.

Don't worry, your baby will be back to being the gerber baby before you know it!

Take care and congrats on your baby. Try not to worry too much.

Hi A.,

If they are truly baby acnes, then like the other mothers have said, there is not much you can do. Don't use soap because it will spread it more. Use water to clean her twice a day.

However, my 4.5 months old girl had a really bad case of it. Everyone said it's baby acne and just wash her with water. But it got so bad that I went to see a doctor and ended up seeing a nurse practitioner who thought that maybe she was allergic to something I was eating. I cut out dairy and nuts and she started to clear up in 3 days. About a week later she was totally clear. So I would confirm before acting on it. If it is baby acne, it should clear up by by your baby is about 8 weeks old.

GL!

My son's cleared up by the time he was 8 weeks old. We used a mild, frangrance free cleanser, and we did not pick at it.

Your baby's acne may be an allergic reaction to a food you are consuming. Try eliminating the major allergic triggers from your diet: milk, dairy, wheat, egg, soy, peanuts. Reintroduce them one at a time gradually and see if you can narrow down the source. Good Luck!
