I have recently heard about some doctors linking autism symptoms to vaccinations have any of you heard of this or know children that have had this problem. My son has had vaccine shots and are due for more. I am a little concerned about this if anyone has any insight i would love to hear anything about this.

What can I do next?

Hi R.,
As an OT who works with (among others) Autistic children, I feel I have to echo what the Speech Therapist said, because there is *a lot* of MIS-information out there.

In no scientific study, have they been able to link Autism with immunizations. They feel it is primarily genetic now, and the main reason there is MORE Autism today than 5 or 10 years ago is because they keep including more and more *levels* of impaired social behavior and sensory processing disorders (they are including milder and milder symptoms under the Autism "umbrella.")

Children who would have been considered "normal but odd" 5 years ago are getting diagnosed as "Autistic" today, so the numbers are climbing astronomically. (Example: I am working with a 13 yo boy who will be diagnosed "Autistic" for the first time, he's "functioning" just fine, but he's now considered "Autistic" under the new categorizations for behaviors clinicians are using).

You should still educate yourself on the risks vs. benefits of *all* medical treatments your child receives: that's just good parenting!

I fully immunize both my boys.

I would like to STRONGLY recommend the Immunization Options class at http://www.inspiredabq.com. It is held quarterly and until it comes up again, you can hold off on more shots. Or, they have a lending library there with several books on vaccinations, if you don't want to wait. The class will help you make INFORMED decisions and come up with a plan for your family. It is an excellent class and just what you need right now!

Yikes!

A topic I am almost viciously adament about.

I have a cousin whose baby died a few weeks following immunizations.

My sister's pediatrician told her that immunizations have been linked to SIDS

I had friends YEARS ago who had 2 children. The daughter received teh MMR. Shortly after, she developed Rhett Syndrome. This attacks the nervous system. She was a beautiful girl, but was incapable of participating in society as a result. Rhett syndrome attacks girls after they have their MMR. She had seizures nearly every day of her life, and she did not physically develop/grow normally. She died 2 days after she turned 12. The message stopped getting from her brain to her heart and lungs to function. The message had stopped getting from her brain to her lungs several times necessitating her father performaing recusitation (breathing into her mouth to get her breathing started again).

They requested that her brother please not receive MMR. They said they'd only give a 1/2 dose. HE HAD A SEIZURE TOO. He did not have any more after that, thank GOD.

A former Miss America went deaf as a result of MMR.

MANY of the diseases that go around, people GET even though they had the vaccination for them. And the "dose" of the disease they get is no less violent than it woudl have been had they not received the vaccine.

The last time I had any child vaccinated, one of them tolerated it ok. The other SCREAMED for hours and developed a nasty fever. We concluded that his body was rejecting the chemical injected into his body.

We vowed never another vaccine....the ONLY thing I will allow is a straight tetanus IF they get cut or poked badly with something nasty/rusty.

I have read MULTIPLE reports that many vaccines have "ingredients" in them that are harmful to the body...like mercury, for instance.

It is my personal opinion that most vaccines out there are designed to also inject things into kids that cause other problems that have to be solved by the medical community....ADD/ADHD for instance. They then put hte kids on ritilan which causes many to have suicidal tendencies.

I can't help but wonder if the major issues that kids have with acne is a result of continual infusion of chemicals allegedly created to eliminate disease....did you know that drug they use to get rid of acne has severe impact on the liver and one must be on birht control in order to be on it???? HOW IS THAT GOOD FOR THE BODY???!!!

OK....sorry for the rant, but I firmly believe that there's a lot of BS out there being fed by the medical community that does not one iota of good.

I believe that many of the diseases have been "irradicated" for the most part because we live in a society where we have proper sanitation and living conditions. Just my opbervation/opinion.

Yes, this is long. I do not apologize. I believe America has been hidden from many things for a long time.

You CAN refuse immunizations if you choose. Don't let them feed you the line that you are neglecting your child.

OK.. I could go on all day but I won't.

If you have questions...feel free to email me on here.

S. - Mom of 8 + 1 grand child who do NOT receive vaccinations and who are VERY healthy children....and yes...they get out in the public.

Here is another helpful web site http://www.generationrescue.org/. I find it interesting that the scientific community can find no link between Autism and vaccines. If I would have known about the possible link earlier I would have had my children on the alternative vaccine schedule.

I'm somewhere between the first two emails. I'm a speech therapist that has worked with children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) for a while now. I have had the same concerns with my own daughter now 20 months.

BAsed on the research I've read/heard, there has NOT been sufficient research done on the AMOUNT of aluminum preservative in vaccines. Babies now get way more than we did when we were babies. It's unclear how different individuals may react to certain levels of these metals. So I have decided to put her on a delayed schedule. She never received her initial HEP B and the first year I only gave her one shot at a time starting a 4 months I believe. Now we usually give her 2 at a time. She's now 20 months meeting all her milestones very early, happy and healthy (with the regular bouts of childhood sicknesses). I never have given her a flu shot; I don't get the flu shot either.

Because the research is thin in my opinion, I feel small doses is a compromise. I also don't want her to get an awful illness and understand the value of vaccines. I probably won't do chx pox or the flu. But I want to travel and I don't want her to get polio or HEP anything!

You are a SAHM, so you are at an advantage that he is not exposed to as much in the public environments like kids who attend daycare. He's less likely to be exposed to anything really serious.

There are options in between! It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Good luck--S.

This is from the Center for Disease Control website, if you click on the link they also have links to many different types of studies, including studies about different ingredients and different reactions, if you like-http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/vaccines.htm

Many studies have looked at whether there is a relationship between vaccines and autism. The weight of the evidence indicates that vaccines are not associated with autism. But CDC knows that some parents and others may still have concerns about this issue. CDC is committed to protecting the health of children and to identifying the biological and environmental causes of autism and other developmental disabilities, so we will continue to study the role of vaccines.
