Moms please HELP!!!! My back yard (specifically my porch) is being taken over by FLIES, millions of them!!! We have a covered porch and just got new patio furniture. My husband and I have really been enjoying the new furniture and have been spending about 2 hours a night just sitting, relaxing, and enjoying each others company. Well, within the last few nights we have been forced back inside by the flies!! I do not want to give up our special time outside just because of pests but we really can't take it. Last year I got those nasty fly strips and do not want to go that route again because they look so gross and are not even effective. What can I do. Does anyone know of any secret tips?

TIA

What can I do next?

Go to Tractor Supply or another farm and ranch supply store. They sell these bags or plastic bells that have a fly attractant that you mix with water and put inside. Then you hang it up in the affected area and the flies go inside and drown. It works exceptionally well, though the attractant is somewhat malodorous. Be very careful around small children so they do not have access to it. The attractant is quite poisonous so hang the bag up high where kids or pets cannot reach. This product is used in livestock barns and works well to reduce the fly populations. When the bag is full, place it in a plastic bag, seal, and throw it away in the trash.

This product really works and will solve your fly problem. Just be sure to handle carefully.

You should try hanging half filled zip lock baggies by a string on the overhang around your porch. Yes it's not very attractive but when we went canoeing last year while waiting in the shop we noticed a bag hanging in the doorway. We just had to ask about it. When they told us it was to keep the flies out we kind of laughed and asked them if it worked. They replied do you see any flies in here? We didn't and the area was covered with them so.... It's worth a try. ")

Good question. We have a terrible fly problem here in the late summer. I just ordered from the site PP mentioned. We'll see if it works!

YES fly predators are the best. However if you do use fly predators, don't use fly traps, as they will be caught in there and not do their job. What they do is eat the fly eggs and soon you will have no flies.

I use it at my Barn. They are great.

do you have natural gas in your house. Flies will swarm to the smell even if the leak is not bad enough for you to smell it.

I would suggest a good quality bug zapper maybe even 2 of them one for each side of the porch. Another option for you if you are willing to spend the money is to screen in your porch this prevents not only flies but also mosquitos and other pests from bothering you. We have our porch screened in and would never have it any other way now however I have no idea how much it would cost to do this as ours was already done when we moved in.

Okay...this is going to sound corny, but I received an email today about battling mosquitos. I don't know if it will work for flies or not, but it is so cheap it is probably worth trying.

Anyway, the email recommended putting Listerine in a spray bottle and spraying around perimeters of areas you want to keep mosquitos away from. Don't spray wood, but spray around a door frame, not on it, etc.

Pleaes let me know if you try it and whether or not it works.

I know this sounds weird but my parents went to Argentina a while back and they do this everywhere. Take a plastic bag and fill it with water and hang them up on the porch. I don't know what it is about it but they don't like these. It is a more natural way to get rid of them and it works!!

Raid has a flying insect spray that has helped me. I spray it around the windows, door and the ceiling of my porch; it smells good to.
