C., While I did not deliver either of my children in Carmel, my son whom was born last July was send to St. Vincent Women's to the NICU. I know it seems weired to say that the expierence was good, but it was!! I strongly recommend them and I am not catholic. Everyone that went to see my son was treated with the upmost respect, questions were answered in a timely fashion and you could tell that they cared!! Good luck!

My vote is for Clarion North. My Dr is Amy Moon at Women's Health Alliance which is on the same floor of the hospital! Quite nice. The hospital is fantastic and Riley North is in the same building as well just in case a NICU is needed, you've got the best!!

Good luck to you!

It completely depends on what kind of birth you are looking for. A safe, natural, mother- and baby-friendly birth, or a main-stream, drugged, whatever-happens happens birth. For the first, go downtown to Methodist or to Community Anderson. For the second, go to St. Vincents Women's. For something in between depending on the doctor, go to Clarion North or Community North. Community North is the newest and has the added bonus of being the ONLY LDRP ward in the area (all the others move you from recovery to postpartum rooms).
PM me if you'd like more info:)

I had my baby at Clarian North. My doctor is there as well through a group called Women's Health Alliance. I use Dr. Denman. Fantastic experience. Beautiful new hospital with NICU and anestheologists on hand. Had such a great experience that now I work there!

I delivered my son at Clarian North and loved my experience there. I've also had another procedure done there, and everyone was great. The rooms are very nice, much like a hotel.

My OB/GYN is Dr. Bridget Hurry at Associate in Women's Health which is located in Clarian North. She is awesome! So is Dr. Louis Star, who is also at that practice. I feel like I get great care from them.

If you need a pediatrician, we see Dr. Joe Hannah from Riveria Pediatrics which is also in Clarian North. When my son was born he actually gave us his home phone number to call anytime even though his practice has an answering service!

C.,
Clarian North and St. Vincent are both wonderful hospitals. Something to remember is that St. Vincent is a Catholic institution with all the associated behaviors. That may not seem to be a big deal until you run into a conflict on ideals, then it's really important.

Personally, I have been seeing my OB/GYN at Women's Health Alliance (now located at Clarian North) for 20 years. They delivered both my children and have seen me well through different reproductive-related problems. They are solid as a rock, warm, wonderful women who have the very best training.
I hope your pregnancy and delivery were as great as mine!

I delivered baby #2 at St Vincent Carmel and baby #3 at Clarian North. Both hospitals are awesome and have the latest state-of-the-art technology. However, I never felt pressured to get an epidural or other pain control. The rooms are great, food is good, nurses are awesome. St Vincent has warm freshly baked cookies you can eat round-the-clock, Clarian North has Starbucks in the lobby -- both places feel more like a nice hotel (mini-vacation away from the other kids!) than a hospital. :-)

My doc, who I really love and is awesome, is Dr Pease. I really like all the docs in the practice, actually. They never forced me to rotate through the docs so I'd see a different one at every visit. I picked Dr Pease as my main one, saw the other docs at least once so I'd at least meet them in case they ended up delivering, but saw Dr Pease pretty much the entire pregnancy. She delivered both my girls (my first was born before we moved to IN) and was wonderful. Dr Pease only delivers at Clarian North now, because their office is in the medical building attached to the hospital.

Many of my friends go to that practice and love it, too. Not just the doctors... the entire staff from front desk to nurses are great, nice and good at returning calls (and not making you feel like an idiot if you ask a 'silly' question while pregnant with #3). :-)

There are now 2 hospitals in the Carmel area. St. Vincents/Carmel at 131st & US31, and Clarion North which is a little further south on US31. I delivered all 3 of mine at St Vincents at 86th st which is w/in a 10min drive of all of those places. I have never been to the newer Clarion North, but my couple of visits to St. V's in Carmel were not pleasurable. Neither time was for delivery or preg. related, but I did not like that hospital. However, I love St V's on 86th st. With my 2nd preg, there were health issues with my daughter found early on and they were great. Should a problem arise, the NICU team is excellent. I am 33 now, and have been using Dr Gosnell and St. V's on 86th since I was 12. Good Luck!

I went to Carmel OB/Gyn for all three of my girls and have been happy with all the doctors. They deliver at St. Vincent Carmel which is a very nice hospital. No complications with any of the pregnancies or deliveries. I had an unmedicated birth and they were very supportive of that. They are fantastic with going with the parents' wishes and not forcing an alternative on you.

Hi C., there are two good hospitals in Carmel. Clarian North, and St. Vincent Carmel. (those of us who live on the North side are very lucky!) I would suggest that you call both hospitals and request a tour of the OB and neo-natal intensive care units at both. You will probably feel that you like one or feel more comfortable with one over the other. If you like them both the same you can always go with the one that is closer to your home. Also, both hospitals should have web sites that will help you find a physician. I happen to be partial to Clarian North, but really both hospitals are good.

Clarian North. Hands down!! It's sweet!
Dr. Soper is an amazing obgyn! She's NO NONSENSE and isn't all that touchy feeley, but she's going to be the rock to get you through labor and delivery and isn't going to sugar coat anything. She's a big proponenet for natural childbirth, but isn't going to judge if you choose to be medicated. She used to be (don't know if she still is) the staff doctor at a midwifery practice as well. I delivered with one of her midwives, but due to a lenghty labor (62 hours) and lots of pushing (5 hours), she was called in to see if we needed to procede with a c-section. She pulled me back from a very dark place toward the end of that labor with my son, and told me I either needed to suck it up and find some strength or they were going to give me the cesarian. She'll DEFINITELY be my doctor the next time around! Good luck with your decision!

I've had 3 children at 3 different hospitals. bar far, Clarian North was the nicest and best staffed. They have a NICU, which I didn't know I would need , but am so happy for it. It was a wonderful experience. My doctor is Eve White at Women's Health Alliance. She's great. She delivered all 3.
good luck.

Hi C.,
Dr. Klus at Clarian North!!! Clarian is one of the nicest hospitals you will ever step foot in. I know several people who have delivered there, and they love it! Let me know if you can't find Dr. Klus's info. She is wonderful, and has delivered all three of my kiddos. I highly recommend her! Good luck with your choices!

Hi C.,

Both St. Vincents and Clarian North are very nice. The benefits of living North! I like the advice you received about taking a tour, this will allow you to compare facilities. Women's Health Network had great OB's and they also offer my brochures to all of their prenatal patients for Mother's Helpers and Nannies. Best of luck to you!
