i gave my son chicken first at that age. i broke off pieces and smooshed them with my fingers a little so they weren't super solid. he liked it and so i tried beef and he seemed to like that too.
My son is almost 9 months old and so he's been on solids now and I wanted to know when can I start giving him meats (in particular chicken). Is it around this age?? Are there any meats to stay away from and what are consider safe right now??

Technically I believe (without looking it up) we can introduce mashed meats at 8 months. So 9 months is fine. You can mix it with bananas (sounds gross, but they like it) or milk for a dairy serving (if they are eating dairy).
No solid meats like hot dogs, they can choke. wait until they know how to chew.
I have not heard of any no-no's in the meat department. And I only know one person allergic to meats, and she had an auto-immune disease. So I don't think for a normal healthy person it is a problem! Have fun!
I think any meat is fine as long as it is in small pieces. I use to make tri-tip in the crockpot and my daughter loved it and it was really soft.
I think I started feeding meat to my second daughter when she was 6 months old. I just made sure it was really, really tiny.
Somebody already mentioned not to feed hot dogs, but I thought I'd second that. Actually, if you make them tiny enough, it would be okay, but it's one of the most common things for kids to choke on...hot dogs, grapes and popcorn. (we have a pediatrition in the family and he's constantly telling people to quarter their grapes).
I started giving my daughter chicken around that age too. I also gave her ground beef and ground chicken or turkey.
