Hi mamas! I am pondering cutting out artificial sweeteners for my daughter and I (none of us need them but I can't make hubby do it), but i'm having a hard time figuring out with the internet research which ones are the ones to cut out - or to just cut them all out? Does anyone know? Where's a good place to get a list of them? Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Aspartame (Nutrasweet and Equal), Saccharin, High Fructose Corn Syrup are the one's to watch out for. Sucralose or Splenda has chlorine. Stevia is not so bad, but I'd go with honey (local is great for allergies), fruit juice and molasses.

Wanted to add that I still use sugar. Don't realistically see me cutting out chocolate chip cookies!!

Please cut them all out ! They are toxic and poison. I still do not understand why politics prevailed and the FDA approved them. Please take the time and go to the library and borrow: "Sweet Misery" OR better yet , I believe you can watch it on You Tube. This is a must see documentary. It is WELL worth all 52 minutes of it.

Artificial sweeteners are just that...Artificial w/ side effects! Beware of high fructose sugar, too ! It's genetically modified.

I use organic sugar (It's not BLEACHED), stevia or organic honey.

Watch the documentary. Then, go on mercola.com and hear Mr. Mercola speak about artificial sweeteners.

*Aspartame was NOT ( I repeat...NOT) FDA approved for at least 2 decades !!! Donald Rumsfeld/POLITICS got it passed though !

In my mind, it is NOT really FDA approved. The scientists would not let it pass.

Cut them all out and if you need just use good old sugar. Even the ones that say natural sweetner...like stevia...are no better for you than sugar. And others..like aspartame....are the equivalent of low doses of poison. There really is no need to use any of them.

Please cut them ALL out! These are some of the most toxic substances you can put in your body. Almost all of them have now been linked to inflammation, autoimmune disorders, neurological & behavioral issues, tumors, and cancer.

When it comes to food, esp for your children, keep it REAL. If you can know your source, even better. There's a great adage to remember here: if you can't recognize / pronounce the name of the ingredient, your body can't, either.

i would cut them all out. use real sugar (even better, brown sugar or honey).

fwiw, i also cut out all margarine/oleo/spread - real butter only. that change was one that was super easy for us to make.

You need to really check those labels, once you start it's quite amazing.
The poison that passes as food on American grocery shelves is overwhelming and abundant.

Just buy food as close to it's original whole state as possible and read those labels. All is not what it seems. If it has a name I can't pronounce or don't recognize as food I don't buy it (most of the time;).

I have been off diet soda now for almost two months. The first month, my dark circles under my eyes lightened by about 50 percent. The second month, well, let's just say my kidneys are working better. I don't have a list but I just avoid the ones I do know. I am thinking its a good thing. It's not too difficult. Kind of like when I quit using margarine and went back to real deal butter.

My theory...if you are going to have sugar, have sugar.

All the artificial sweeteners are bad...even ones proclaimed as "natural." Like agave, for instance...it can have up to 90% fructose, WAY more than high fructose corn syrup, which we ALL know is bad for us. Just because it has a low glycemic index, doesn't make it healthy!

Sugar, in moderation...nothing wrong with it.

Every artificial sweetener is bad for you. Truth be told, even sugar is bad for you, but not as bad as fake sugar. At the very least, cut them out of your child's diet ASAP.

Cut them all out please.

I can't tell you how serious I am about this. My friend nearly died from eating them, I have told her story many times here on this site.

She was insulin resistant diabetic just as her father was and her son is. She used artificial sweeteners all her life. She had blood sugars in the high 400's all the time. She even got an insulin pump put in. She ended up seeing a new doc for this pump and he told her to stop all artificial sweeteners. There is much more to the story but she started using real sugar and real butter, whole milk, etc...her blood sugars are in the normal range almost all the time, the pump was taken out, she has not been in the hospital for her congestive heart failure in over 2 years after being in several times per year with pneumonia that nearly killed her each time, she doesn't carry oxygen around everywhere she goes, even to the bathroom for a shower anymore, and her blood sugar is in control 99% of the time.

She counts carbs and stays under a certain amount per day. Not a low amount either, I was surprised at how many she could have but I don't want to guess how many it was, I just can't remember.

She walks around Walmart in size 10 jeans now instead of riding a cart and wearing plus size 30 pants.

I tell the kids that artificial sweeteners are poison for our bodies and because they taste sweet people use them and are slowly killing themselves. Call me a fanatic or not, we do not use them in any way.

No-cal sweeteners are not digested by the body. Things that can't be digested should not be consumed.

And FWIW, I wouldn't trust "Dr." Mercola to recommend treatment for a hangnail.

We use Sugar in The Raw, buy the single packets at Walmart (Brown Box sold in packets or bulk) and take with you wherever you go. It's not as sweet, but try something without it and then add, you'll see it's enough. It's sold at Target and other grocery stores, but sometimes not in the packets or a smaller box. I know Walmart sells it in the large bos. Good luck!

We don't use artificial sweeteners or add sugar to most foods. If you eat a diet without a lot of processed foods, this should not be an issue at all. Sure there is a small amount of sugar in whole grain bread, but otherwise, there is not much that really needs sugar added. We buy plain (unflavored) yogurt (no sugar added) and add fresh fruit. We don't drink soda and I drink my coffee w/o sugar. I don't think that we know whether sugar is better or worse for us than artificial sweeteners. I would avoid them all. The issue is added sugar (sugar added during food processing) not the sugars naturally present in whole fruit.

Do know that Stevia is not an artificial sweetner. It is natural, made from a plant, and has zero calories.
