Appropriate Wii Game for 5 Year Old Boy?

My son turns 5 in a couple of weeks. We have a Wii that comes with the sports games on it (bowling, tennis, golf, baseball). He plays those but we were thinking about getting a new Wii game for his birthday. I am looking for suggestions on an appropriate, fun and possibly even educational game for a five year old boy. I'm not really looking for a game with fighting/killing/gory type influences. I'd also like to mention that I have a 6 1/2 year old boy who would be playing it too. Thanks for your help

What can I do next?

My boys love the lego games. They do have some shoot- 'em -ups, but htey are really funny and easy to control. I do not recommend the bionicle one. That one is harder. But star wars, indiana jones, batman, and rock band are my boys faves (13,10, 6).

When my son was 5, his favorite game on the Wii was Mario Kart. He has been playing the game for almost 2 years and really enjoys it. He likes Cars and Hot Wheels so this game was a good fit for his personality. He also enjoys Mario Party 8 and Carnival Games. My older son enjoys Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Star Wars. We have Wii Super Mario Bros. but he prefers to play this game on his Nintendo DS. He got Wii Party for Christmas and likes this game (too early to know if he will continue to enjoy it).

Hope he gets a game he will enjoy.

My 4.5 year old loves the new Super Mario game (red cover), Toy Story Mania, and Mater's Tall Tales. We looked at Epic Mickey, but found that it seemed to be a little too advanced for him. He has Donkey Kong Country and likes it, but it also seems to be a little much right now. I hope this helps and have fun!

We shop at gamestop I think they are in different states, we've talked with the manager and others that work their about games. My suggestion is taking to someone at some of the stores that just sell games will be a great help since they play many of them and see to be gamers they do have a great knowledge about them.

My kids have liked Donkey Kong when they were little. You can also ask to play at game at the game stores and they have systems set up so you can try before you buy.

Best of luck

Mario Kart is a really fun game, as is Wipeout, based on the TV show. My kids are 4 and 6 and they love both of these. They both also like the Lego games, like Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Harry Potter. There is fighting in I. Jones and Star Wars, but nothing gory and it's done in a humorous, non-offensive way. When a character runs out of lives their lego pieces fall apart, which my kids find hilarious. The Harry Potter game has a lot of spell work, so there's not really the fighting. What I've found with my son is that boys like the good guys v. bad guys battles and the Lego games are the most kid and family friendly games with that. There's also a lot of problem solving in the Lego games and 2 players can play at the same time, promoting teamwork, taking turns and compromising. These games may not teach letters and spelling, but they do help the kids develop logical thinking, cause and effect and problem solving skills.

We loved Loved LOVED Mario Kart when we got our Wii. My boys (5 and 8) and myself and husband played it a lot! No fighting or gory stuff...just racing your car and trying to knock the other guys out of the way.

HI P.,
Well not too familiar with Wii game system. We have PS 2 and Xbox 360 and have a ton of racing games. My boys LOVE them and I'm cool with them since there is no bloodshed involved :)

The Wii Resort Package is the "best bang for your buck" with lots of different activities and different levels of playing for each. My almost 6 YO son enjoys flying the airplane while my 7-1/2 YO daughter loves the wakeboarding and table tennis. You do need the "extensions" to make old remotes more sensitive. We just got the Star Wars light saber duelling for Christmas, but it might be more violent than what you're looking for.

We bought the Diego games for our 4 year old son for Christmas. He loves them! They are easy enough for him to do by himself, they get him up moving around, and he learns about different animals. He also likes Mario Cart but he usually needs our help with that one.

My son just turned 5.

For christmas we bought him the Wii Resort because there are about 15 games on there. Non violent.

He plays Shrek, Packman, and motorcycle games.

There are car racing games that are nice. I heard the Michael Jackson game was alot of fun, if he's into dancing.

If you stay with Disney you should be fine. Wii is a nintendo product that is more geared for family oriented fun and games. Mario brothers games are awesome....my son calls Mario Party the "take turns game".
