Just wondering if anyone out there has purchased/used the green bags or anything similar to them. I know they are sold as an infomercial on tv, but know they are elsewhere also now with different versions. They are to help keep fruits and veggies fresher longer....just want to know if any of you liked them and think they really do help, or are they just a farse!??

Thanks!

D.,

I have used the green bags for over a year and I LOVE them. They really do work. I buy veggies and fruit and then forget I have them. But now, they last for weeks. Great for strawberries. I use the ones on TV but buy them at WalMart.

On the news they did a consumer reports type thing on them and no they didn't keep anything any fresher. I was tempted to buy them too until I saw that report.

They do work - also great for pre-made salads that you buy - it keeps the lettuce fresh and crispy, no browning or wilting. A word of warning though - a friend of mine tested them with bananas and left them in the bag about a month. The bananas never turned brown - still looked yellow and good, but they rotted inside the skins and when she picked up the bag they fell apart! EW! So - they keep the bananas from going brown but do not keep them from going bad indefinitely. :)

D., I've been using the Debbie Meyer Green Bags (the "As Seen on TV" kind)for several months and have been very pleased with them. Just make sure the produce is dry before you put it in the bags. Just fold the bag over, don't tie it shut. If you see moisture building up in the bag dry it out and then put a paper towel in there (that means there is usually a lot of moisture in the produce). When washing the bags use plain water. I find it keeps most things for weeks. Good Luck.

The bags are great, they extend produce from 10-20 days for me(when I remember to use them!)- you can get them at Walmart now near the produce- worth the money!

I agree with the others, they work well except for bananas. They seem to be the same price everywhere, but I bought mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond because you can use one of their coupons.

Yes, they do work well. As for bananas, when you bring them home, simply detach them from each other and they will last so much longer. Keeping them attached to the main stem makes them ripen very quickly!

I just bought a package this past weekend at Wal-Mart. My bananas always brown so quickly, so I thought, " I have wasted $5 worth of bananas in the past. If this works, then I'll be saving money." So far, they are doing great.

I have used them for bananas an they do work. Buy them from dollar general store in your area if you have one as they are cheaper there.

Well.. They work really well. But we go through fruits and veggies so fast that we forget to use the bags. When we have remembered to use them, they do what they say they do.

I had the same question, until I saw one of my friends had them and gave them a glowing endorsement. I purchased some for our family and was stunned at how well they work. We've put bananas in them, and they have kept their yellow color for a LONG time--like 10 days or so; HOWEVER, the color was misleading because the flesh continued to ripen way beyond what's good. . .we've also used them for strawberries--which held their flavor & texture much longer than strawberries kept in the original container; for onions--and prevented the scent from leaking through the fridge; celery--which kept its "crunch" for much longer than when in tupperware with water or in the original bag. Hope that helps!!!

I have used those bags for about a year now and I think they are great. They really do make the food last longer, which is a real money saver.

My mom uses them and loves them. She brought some to my house when they stayed here a while and left them (by accident) and had fruit in them and the fruit lasted a looooong time. I was impressed. Good luck and God Bless.

I purchased a set at Schnucks and thought they were a bit pricey but discovered I had 2 sizes of bags with 10 each size so I have 20 bags. I tried them for strawberries, lettuce, grapes, potatoes, onions, and bananas. I think they work great. I find moisture on the top inside of the bag and use a paper towel to remove excess moisture on some of the fruit/vegetables I'm storing. I can keep bananas much longer than ever before. Also my produce seems to be more crisp for a longer period of time. They are reusable-do not use metal ties (bread ties) as they could damage the bag--just fold it under at the end--saves time too, on opening and closing. I have reused mine and also given some to family members so perhaps not so costly after all. Besides the price of fruits & veggies being high, if we can keep them good for a longer time after purchasing--that's a money saver too. k

Good Morning D., I have some green bags (bought them from the Commercial) I bought them because a good friend said they were awesome and really cut down on the cost of replacing veggies and fruits. Maybe they eat them quicker then we do, or I just have to many items. They work well with grapes in the frig. or anything you would normally keep in the frig. crisper drawer.
I found though bananas & apples do not do as well if left on the counter top.
I can't eat banana's personally, I love them but they don't love me...lol blisters my mouth. So Corbin will eat a one a day for maybe 2-3 days then he doesn't want anymore. Zane won't touch them now. Same with apples if I buy a bag of them, they seem to go bad unless you keep them in the frig.

You do not use twist ties with these bags only fold over. If moisture collects open let dry out and re close.

So if you buy a large bunch of banana's get a good recipe for B bread...lol I have cut down on the amount of fruits I get for them, so they're not wasted.

So my infomercial information is purchase at your own discretion. If you use things quickly ( within a week ) they are ok. Longer then that they are just like any other storage bag. Things do go bad

God Bless your day
