I am strongly considering switching my form of birth control to Nuvaring, but am a bit apprehensive. Has anyone tried it and can give me any tips, thoughts, pros, cons etc...The pill I am currently on is very picky and I'm not happy with it so I may just need a different pill. Any thoughts you can give would be appreciated! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

go with the nuvaring it is a good choice as it has low side effects and you wont usually forget it. I used it with great sucess for over 3 years. me or hubby never knew it was there but it was a learned technique to use at first but once i learned how it was great

I used this for over a year with no complaints. It was much easier than remembering to take a pill everyday. Easy to put in and you don't even feel it once it's in. Easy to take out as well. The only concern I had was about sex, but my husband said he didn't notice it either. All in all it was a great option for me.

I haven't tried nuvaring but a couple of friends of mine have. They really like it since it's more convenient but one did lose hers and she's not sure how. But they say not having to worry about taking a pill everyday is easier. I am thinking about using it once I have this baby because even though I don't want anymore children my medicaid doesn't cover a tubal ligation :(. However, nuvaring is around 45-65 dollars a month so just be prepared to spend some money!

I use to be on the Nurvaring and I loved it, however my insurance wouldn't pay much on it and I was paying $50.00 a month for it! I ended up going back on the pill and I only pay $10.00 a month now. At first it toook some time getting use to feeling a ring inside you but it only took about a week and also I had some burning sensation for the first week, my husband did not like it all he could feel it everytime we had sex, but I would much rather use the nuvaring and remember to change it monthly instead of taking a pill everyday!

Love it, comes in a cute little box with freezer bags that can be reused, stays in the frig., goes in same day each month, comes out same day, etc...no ups and downs, can't feel it, don't want to ever use anything else. Our insurance covers most of it.

I used it years ago when it first came out and I LOVED IT! I did not have weight gain like I did w/ some of the other pills I tried. It is so easy to insert, you do not feel it (you will forget it is there). My husband (at the time) rarely could feel it during intercourse. It did come out one time during sex, but all you have to do (per directions) is rinse it off and re-insert. I would be on it now, but am a smoker over 35 and do not TAKE (not use) any form of birth control. My experience with it was great! Plus, you don't have to worry about "forgetting" to take it! GOOD LUCK!

I have been using the Nuvaring for about 4 months now. It is great! I change it out the 1st day of every month - like one other previous post said - so its pretty easy to remember to do. Once I have put it in I don't feel it at all and my husband says he can't feel it either. Also, it is a much lower dose hormone than taking the pill so I don't get headaches etc. that I was getting with the pill. You should at least try it for a few months and see what you think. My dr. gave me 3 months worth of samples so maybe you could ask yours for some samples and just try it out.

I use dit several years ago and HATED it. Both my ex and I COULD feel it during sex, and it shifted when things got vigorous.
Also I had breakthrough bleeding the whole time I was on it. Same thing happened with the patch.
I never found any method of pharmaceutical birth control that worked well for me, and finally decided that condoms and spermicide were my best option.

Unlike everyone else here, mine popped out during intercourse every time which was annoying so I quit using it after only 1 month. I was already on my path to going no BC anyway due to complications from Depo Provera. The Nuvaring is what my doc suggested I do to help my body wean off of the hormones because it is so low dose.

I now use cyclebeads to track my fertile time so I get pregnant if I want and don't if I don't want to. This way I'm not putting hormones in my body that are going to cause other problems now and down the road. I'd like to help make menopause as stress free as possible when the time comes.

I've been on it for about 6 months now and don't like it. Half of the time I can feel it there, and during sex (although my husband cannot feel it, which is good) I'm alot more dried out and it rubs causing a lot of discomfort and short intercourse sessions (sorry if too much info). As soon as I have my annual in August I'm getting off of this.

However, as you can see everyone is different on it. Some like it and some don't. B/c of that I would say try it. And ask for samples from your doc.

Good luck! :)

I tried the nuvaring a few years ago and liked it. It was easy to use and I didn't have to think about it everyday. Sometimes I did forget to take it out at the end of three weeks but it never became a problem. My husband said he could feel it occasionally but it didn't bother him. My OBGYN said if it was bothersome during sex then you could take it out for a short time (couple hours) I just didn't want to risk that.
The only reason I stopped taking it is that I usually take a low dose hormone pill and the nuvaring is a pretty high dose. It did make me a little crazy. Overall it was easy to use and didn't require a lot of reminders.

I was having lots of trouble with my last pill (this may be too much info), but there were the usual mood swings and things, but then there was the lack of desire, dryness, and I felt like I was always on a roller coaster. My husband and I were tired of it so a year and a half ago I went to my dr and asked for something different. He suggested the Nuvaring...and I hope I never have to use anything else! It has been the best change for us. It provides a constant supply of the hormones so I wasn't getting that rollercoaster feeling I had on the pill (because you have to take it everyday at the same time, you get a high dose at the beginning and then it begins to wear off). But ALL of my problems are no longer since I switched to the Nuvaring! You can do it two ways: you can put it in on the 1st and remove it on the 28th and have a period. You can also put it in on the 1st and wear it until the 1st of the next month and then switch and NOT have a period! I experimented with this and my dr says as long as you don't have spotting in between, then you can do this for as long as you want. Once you have spotting, you know that's your limit. I think I am currently on my 6th month of no period and I LOVE IT! It comes in handy for trips, but I'm a teacher and it also comes in handy for this line of work since bathroom trips can be scarce throughout the day! If you have any questions you can e-mail me at ____@____.com . I hope this helps. The only "con" I can think of is that they have to be refrigerated if you get more than one at a time, so I just place them in a small white lunch bag and in a plastic container in the fridge somewhere discreet! There have also been times when it has rubbed on my husband during those intimate times and I have taken it out, wrapped it in a baby wipe and then rinsed and replaced it afterwards. My dr said that as long as I don't experience any problems doing this, it was perfectly fine. He said I didn't even need to wrap it in the baby wipe, but to me that just seems a bit cleaner than leaving it out in the open! LOL. Again, I hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions! D.

Hey, I know Im a little late reading this message. But Nuvaring caught my eye. Its great not having to (remember) to take a pill every day. We had a premature baby that passed away 4 years ago, and then ended up pregnant with our now 3 year old (not planned)... After that I got on the Nuvaring and LOVED it! But.. I now have a bigger family. My hubby, me, Rebecca (our angel in heaven), Daniel (3), and Racheal (8 months) -- our nuva baby. We called her Nuva in the NICU. Good luck, but NOTHING is 100%! : )

You do know that any birth control pill, really does not keep you from getting pregnant, it only stops the baby from attaching to your uterus! Anything you use will also affect your own health too. Do the natural method, this works, without useing things that I believe God never meant for us to use. I pray that you pray about all of this, and find out about the natural method. May God direct you and your husband. Please don't get up set about this, I only want to tell you a truth. B., a sister in Christ

Hi, C. - As you can see from the responses, Nuvaring works for some, but not for all. About 3 years ago, I used it for about 6 months - during that time, I battled at least 4 yeast infections. Not sure if the ring actually caused them (or contributed to the frequency of them); however, I ceased using them and the yeast infections stopped, too. I like the suggestion about asking your doctor for some samples just to see what you think about them.

I really liked the Nuvaring when I was on it, didn't feel it during intercourse and I never had one come out. You do have to make sure it stays at the proper temperature in the fridge (if get more than one at a time). I used to buy mine in 3 month increments but our power went out with a storm and I guess wound up doing something to the ring I had in there....the only reason why I know is because I wound up pregnant on that one (My 3 year old daughter now! ;) lol) and I was on it for over a year before this happened.

Hi C.,
I have used NuvaRing before - When I initially tried it, I really enjoyed not having the usual side-effects of birth control, however, during the 9th month of using it, I got pregnant - before it was taken out. Big shock. But my doctor advised that I must have been that 10th of a percent of that "99.9% effectiveness" claim. So earlier this year after delivery, I decided to try it again after my doctor suggested it. After the 3rd week of using it, one day out of the blue, I started feeling sick-nauseated, flu-like symptoms. By day 3, I was feeling worse -very week and having migraine-like headaches, so I went to the doctor - the dr. said I had a stomach flu, but by the end of the day I started to lose vision. My husband, an Ophthalmologist, said this wasn't a flu. And then I wondered if it could be the Nuva Ring, so I took it out and within 30 min. ALL symptoms were gone. This had never happened when I used it previously. So after all this, I'm not interested in using it again. But of course, I still may be that 10th of a percent. Recently I have tried Loestrin Fe and like it. It is pretty expensive, though.
Hope you can find the right fit for you.
K.
