The 2012 Doomsday movie is about to come out. Anyone else out there secretly thinking, worrying or planning for it? I'm not talking about just fringe crazy folks but real regular people like you and me. I've started to think about preparing just in case: clean water (how to get it or make it), safe food (grow it and test it), sanitation, electricity (remember no gasoline or diesel to run your generator! so getting an alternative energy machine like a woody gasifier), hot water, clean clothes, clean children, batteries, shelter etc...

If you're really a conspiracy theroist you won't believe this (since it comes from NASA, aka, the government!) but here is what the NASA Astrobiologists' say: http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/intro/...

Apparently the planets are not even 'lining up.' Wasn't the world supposed to end a while back per Nostradamus too?

I saw a lot of good advice here. I'd take note of Lisa and Maria especially.
Bottom line is this kind of hype comes every decade or so. I remember when it was supposed to happen in 1975, 1989, Y2K, 2008, etc. Remember that the origin of this kind of doomsday hype is always some people with an agenda... then it is probagated by others and their fears.

You don'thave to live in fear. I suggest just prepare for emergencies and live life as the precious gift it is.

Try preparing for the, far more likely, big earthquake that may leave you in need of supplies for a week. You probably have a neighbor who was in Northridge for their biggy...

I do not think 2012 will bring anything more disasterous than another birthday. ;)

I don't believe that the world will end in 2012 but I do know that perilous times are coming. There are many websites that have ideas and help!

Our church is pushing being prepared and has a website with lots of info on how to store, what to store etc.
http://www.providentliving.org/channel/1,11677,1706-1,00....

There is also a neat blog that helps you get 72 hour kits ready and gives you recipes on how to use food storage.
http://safelygatheredin.blogspot.com/

If you want more info on where to buy bulk things for food storage contact me :)

Good luck!

I just found an article online about 2012 and thought it was interesting too... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091011/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_... if you want more info on what the Mayans think about it.

Well, I am kind of worrying about it. I knew that my fears were baseless, until my sister told me that certain scientist believe there will be a large increase in solar storms at that time, and there could be some disruption in mechanical services... Now I am still worried/aware that it is on the horizon, but I don't plan anymore than I did for earthquakes or other natural disasters.
On the other hand, I was born on a farm, and I know how to grow my own food, and what is involved in getting food to the table. My plan is to head east if the end of the world happens and I survive it... easier to farm with water. =) I also laugh at myself, cause the world ends ever 10-20 years.
try not to let it bother you too much, but it is alright to prepare. I try to keep in mind the saying, 'live like it is the last day of your life, plan like you will live forever' or something like it.

good luck

Here's the ironic thing about life:

Say you've spent tens of thousands outfitting your home with MRE's for x number of people for a year, grow lights, seed stock, live stock, solar power, necessary medicines & gear (everything from antibiotics, to plaster for casts, to immunizations, to surgical equipment), a human waste recycling unit, NBC suits (nuclear, biological, chemical) & gas masks, 50 years worth of contact lenses & tampons, and reading material for sanity's sake...or even hundreds of thousands and you've turned your house / underground bunker with blast doors and hermetic sealing, with self circulating reoxygenating air....into an entirely self sustaining fortress.

Say you've dona ALL that....when the asteroid/bombs/tidalwaves/angry mobs/plague/chemicals/whatever-it-is.....you'll be on a camping trip, or stuck in traffic on the freeway, or in the elevator, or at a wedding.

Life's just like that.

So keep basic emergency gear in the basement & trunk...but mostly kept a flexable "I can DO this, even if I don't know how right now, I can figure it out" attitude. <grinning> And never live on an island without knowing how to sail a boat.

2012 is not the end of days. It may be the end of the world as we currently know it, but not doomsday. I am one of those who has studied about this for many years. No one knows for sure what will happen, but I believe we are entering a new age of peace and love. We are not there yet, but we are in the midst of this transformation. Have you noticed how fast time is? Everything is accelerated right now as we move forward to this shift. If you can release all your fear it will be much easier. Don't buy into the doomsday hype. I would encourage you to prepare for natural disaster, as we never know when we might get hit by an earthquake. If you can afford it, a solar generator is a great thing to have. You won't have to worry about getting fuel for it. Berkey makes great water filters for camping and we actually bought one to filter the tap water. We bought the extra filter for fluoride. It saves on bottled water. Anything you can use to get you going off the grid is great. Having bottled water is important as well in preparation for a natural disaster in case the water is shut off for a time.

The 2012 date comes from the end of the Mayan calendar, but even that is a misnomer. It really marks the end of one age and the beginning of the next. Anytime there is change, there is usually some chaos, hence the need for preparedness. It is a fascinating subject and it is not made up by Hollywood. There are quantum physicists as well as archeologists and spiritual leaders who are looking at what might transpire. Personally, I resonate more with the messages of the following people-Drunvalo Melchizedek, Greg Braden and David Wilcock. There are many more and no one has the complete picture. I recommend establishing a good meditation practice to stay centered. We will be bombarded with information and speculation as we get closer to the date. Nothing magic happens specifically on that day. It is a process. We also can not be 100% sure if our calendar is in sync with the Mayan calendar. So who really knows when that day will occur? Edgar Casey said in one of his readings that we may be off by 4 years. We could be coming up on it this December if that is so! We may have passed it last year. It is an exciting time to be alive. There are many books and videos on the subject. Stick to the positive messages. We have help from our guides and angels and always have. One must only ask. More and more truths are being discovered. The main thing to keep in the forefront is that love is the strongest force in the universe. Love will ultimately prevail.

I have never had a feeling like I have right now about a major disaster. It is not because of the movie or anything else for that matter. I think my mind keeps playing "what if"... (It is that inner voice.) I think I am going to be prepared just in case... It is a matter of life or death in some disasters (like a major earthquake). My friend told me that we are lucky as we keep dried dog food (for the dogs) on hand and it has everything one would need to survive for a couple of weeks. Not liking that thought though...

It's interesting because people who are new-thought minded (spiritual but not religious) believe 12-12-12 will be a day that turns everything for the positive, not negative. They are looking toward the tremendous love and joy that will be brought forth, not anything bad. So I agree about it's all hype for the sake of the movie. But it is always a good idea to be prepared for emergencies, especially in earthquake or tornado areas.

People have always tried to predict the end of the world. ALWAYS! Why do you think we have so many cults that end up killing themselves on this day or that day... all in the name of the end of the world? Truth of the matter is is that we do NOT know when the end of the world is going to happen. Enjoy each day that you have with your loved ones (as we don't know what's waiting for us on the other side) and STOP worrying about stuff you can't control! Also.. scientists don't know any more than the weather.. and even then they get that wrong all the time too.

Do you remember all the hype about Y2K and nothing happened? I wouldn't give this a second thought. It's ridiculous. Keep an emergency kit anyway, as we're supposed to in case of earthquake, etc. but I wouldn't worry your little self about something that will probably not happen. There are too many other things to think about!

I saw a couple of billboards about the movie but don't know anything about it. Is there supposed to be a true doomsday in 2012? Since I didn't know about it, I haven't worried.

That said, I do keep an emergency box in the house. There is food and water to last a few days. There is a flashlight and some extra batteries and a pair of socks for each family member. There are some diapers and wipes for my son and I think a change of clothes for him (but not for me or my husband). I keep meaning to buy an emergency first aid kit to put in there as well.

I personally am not, however my husband is. He has been slowly preparing for it for years, so it was definitely prior to any Hollywood Movies. He's read a lot about it and the last plan was that we'd head to Sedona, AZ because it is supposedly the 'safest' place. We have a second home in AZ, about 2-3 hours from Sedona that he's packed with boxed foods, etc.

Hi D.. B,

Hello, I'm not any kind of fringe person or weird in any way, just a regular mom with kids, but I always have "emergency preparedness" on my mind. All folks should take some steps to prepare for the unexpected. Storing water and food and some kind of alternative cooking method is a good start. I have several 55-gallon drums in my garage, along with a pump to be able to use it. I also store water around my house in really good 5-gallon containers. (You'd be surprised how many times they've come in handy too; the city had to turn off our water to fix some pipes and we already had water ready for the few hours it would be off).
I store MRE's, and many kinds of food that can be opened with a can opener (NOT ELECTRIC) and juices, soups, etc. I also have longer-term storage and have a 3-day kit that contains everything needed for a disaster or other type of emergency. I store all this is a childrens wagon in case we had to vacate our home and could not drive for some reason. There are many websites devoted to suggestions and ideas for you. I think it's a smart thing to be prepared!

Remember Y2K....????? We're all still here. I worried for a bit about that day and it came and went. The truth I've come to realize is that EVERY day is a gift and we need to treat it as such. We are all going to die one day or another... it's just a part of life. Realize that we, as human beings, are such a small, small, small part of what this universe is made of... we're here for such a tiny fragment of time. Enjoy it while you're here and realize it will all continue to turn long, long, long after we're gone.

Nope. Definitely not. Scientists can't even agree whether the whole 2012 thing is going to happen in 2012 or 2013 (due to the differences in the Mayan and Gregorian calendar). And many of the ones that do believe in the Mayan Calendar believe that the 2012 symbolism just marks the end of another era, not truly the end of the world. Besides, everyone freaked out about 2000 and nothing happened there... :)

It's always good to be prepared for any emergency. Here in CA, you never know when an earthquake will hit and impact you.

All this Doomsday 2012 stuff being talked about is just early hype to promote the movie. There's no proof behind it, scientific or biblical. It's just another prediction by someone and none of the other predictions from anyone about the end of the world has come true. I'm not worried in the least!

Many responders already said that we don't know when the end is coming. And, this 2012 hype has really been triggered by this new movie. You should always be prepared for anything, but for the end of the world.... there are only a few things to do.

I agree with Heidi. If you're not saved, change that. Then, there are 2 directions that believers take. One group says we'll be raptured before anything happens. Then, we'll miss all the bad stuff. The other group says we'll be here to witness. So, in my opinion, pull up a comfy chair 'cause it's gonna be quite a show!!
