Anyone Know of a Such Thing as Part Time Pre-School?

Hello, I am looking to put my 2 1/2 yr old son in a pre-school sometime soon, but only want to do so for half days or else partial days out of the week. My Mom currently cares for him, and moved all the way here from 3,000 miles away to do so, however he also seems ready and eager to learn and have interaction with other children. Does anyone know of a daycare or pre-school in Riverview or Tampa that would take a child part time?

What can I do next?

Harvest Time on 301 at Crosstown has a great part time program that runs in the mornings for preschoolers.

Bright Horizon's in Hunter's Green and Seven Oaks (we go to Seven Oak's one) offers full-partime, part-time and full time. We go full time and we came from Birmingham, AL and went to a Bright Horizon's there and the program is great. The one is Seven Oaks is state of the art, pool, computer lab etc. Check out www.brighthorizons.com.

Montessori Early Learning has 2 & 3 days programs. They're located just off of Dale Mabry on Hudson. It's a great school.

If you don't have anything against religion in school, look into church preschools. They normally offer half day and 2-3 days a week for an expensive price. We pay %150/mo for two half days a week. I found that commercially run daycare/preschools charge twice that amount or more. The religion is just one aspect of the preschool, they also teach about numbers, letters, shapes and colors, as well as lots of fun mixed in. Look quickly though b/c many preschool registrations are happening right now for the fall.

My son goes to preschool 2 mornings a week and next year as a 3 yr old can go 3 or 5 mornings a week so I think part-time is the norm at this age. Daycare is totally different, usually they want a full week. Check out Wee World in Temple Terrace as a reference point and maybe you can find somewhere closer from there.
Wee World is incredible by the way!

I'm pretty sure any daycare center and most large churches offer some type of pre-school. I'm not sure about your area, but here in New Port Richey I sent both my kids to Wee Kids preschool and they really got a lot of it. They went from 9AM to noon Mon thru Fri.

First United Methodist Church, on Moon Ave., in Brandon. All three of my children went there, and did beautifully! They all went into first grade as prepared, or better prepared than children who had attended an all day kindergarten. They all started with K3, two or three days a week, and stayed through kindergarten.

It's still their favorite memories of school.

Hi G.,

My son goes to All Kids Academy in Land O'Lakes 1 day a week from 9-2pm. They offer part time care and my son loves it there. They have different programs and hours. He will be starting Pre k in August. They are off of SR54 and Livingston.

When my son first started at 18 months we put him in at Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center (old name: Brandon Swim Club, the place where Brooke Bennett trained). Anyway, they were great! The only reason we moved him was because his sister came along and we needed a school that took infants and BSAC didn't, they have a website www.mybsac.org, they were very nice, clean, etc.

G., I can't think of a specific one but I know there are a few that will allow part-time enrollment. When I was looking for my sons, in the Brandon area, I started with the list I got from the Hillsborough County Early Childcare site and just called straight down to see which met my needs on a personal level (hours, days of the week, cost, etc.). Then, I visited the two or three that made it to the second round.

I can't find the county site anymore for some reason but here's a link to the state provider search site:

G.,

I don't know of any place in Tampa/Riverview. But the catholic church down the street from us started a part time day care. They can go anywhere from 2-5 days a week/ 1/2 days. Their prices were very reasonable. So maybe you should check in with some of the local churches that offer day care.

I don't know where you live, but my kids, ages 3 & 4, go to Wesley Early Learning Center on Memorial Highway in Tampa. They have a wonderful Christian based program and have 2-3 days/week from 9a-12p. The phone ####-###-####, they have just recently done enrollment for the fall, so now would be a great time to call. You have any other questions let me know.

St Paul Child Enrichment on Stall and N. Dale Mabry in Tampa. Joanne Ruddy is the director. ###-###-####. They offer many choices regarding days and times and the tuition is very inexpensive compared to some of the other schools. (I checked out 12 for my daughter before enrolling at St Paul) We LOVE the school and the teachers. Their 4 year old program is VPK too so when your son is in the 4 year old program there is no tuition for the whole year. It is a Catholic preschool but religion is only a part of the program. Good Luck!
