Anyone Know a Good and Reasonable Orthodontist?

I live in the Mission, Kansas area (KC Metro) and am needing to find a good Orthodontist who is also reasonably priced. I know that’s kind of an oxymoron but I am hopeful! I really don’t know that the cost of normal braces should be. Any information would be helpful!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want the bargain basement braces but I don't want to get ripped off either. By reasonable, I mean what is the average cost as opposed to the highest cost. I don't even know where to begin to know what is reasonable to pay for braces. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Have you tried the dental college? They have students that do the work and they work with you on cost. Ku dental college off of 25th and H. something like that. Best of luck.

Hi K.,

While I can really appreciate the fact that money is always of big concern, my family did not shop around for the best price. I have heard to many horror stories about that. In a sense, I think you get what you pay for.

With that being said, My family uses Heidi Harman. She is FANTASTIC! I can not say enough good things about her and her staff. Depending on the amount of work your daughter needs, I think her prices are fair. I have two daughters undergoing care with her. Phase One, is around 3000.00 Phase Two is around 5000.00. Okay don't get sticker shock... :) You can make payments (Thank God).
Your daughter may not need Phase One... Both mine did! Phase One is Palet Expansion and some other stuff.

Anyway, I hope you don't think that I am being rude. I am really not. I think that those prices are pretty much the same with some other Orthodontist. Just from speaking with other friends whom have used others...

Her number is 78-BRACE

Take Care,

My brother is a dental student at UMKC Dental School and my husband went there for some root canal work for about 1/3 the cost of what our regular dentist was going to charge. You can call up there to see if they also do ortho work, I'm sure they do--and it would save tons of money! The visits take longer than a practicing orthodontist because the students obviously take a little longer and they also have the dental faculty observing/checking work/assisting. And you do have to call ahead to get on the waiting list, it took about two months to get my husband in. The dental students who worked on my husband did a good job. Hope this helps, good luck!

I am a hygienist in Overland Park. At my office, we mostly refer to Drs. Hannah and Oltjen (they did my braces as a child and I loved them), Dr. Fry (more pricey), and Drs. Dyer and Smith (newer orthodontists and a little less expensive). The great thing is that they all do free consultations. They'll need to see a panoramic x-ray which you can have taken at your general dentists office and then hand carry to each consultation. I always advise patients to seek more than one opinion and price. Hope this helps:)

I'm currently using Hannah and Oltjen in Olathe, KS and love them. They also have a location at 75th & Quivira that my nephew goes to. My son started getting his teeth checked when he was in 6th grade. Once all his baby teeth were gone they got him started on the braces. The payments start when they start the actual work. Depending on what needs to be done expect to pay $3,000-4,000. I would recommend you get 2 quotes before deciding. They will give you quotes at no charge.

Dr. James Osborne in Raytown, conveniently located on 350 highway off 435, has refused to put braces on my son's teeth yet, and he is 12, until the right time so it will take 15-24 mos.

Many orthodontists will put braces on for years and years, but Dr. Osborne gave me the full diagnosis and it makes sense not to get ripped off and have long lasting results for their lifetime. I really trust him and he may be full but you can try to get seen. I got many other quotes for longer care that don't make as much sense, although I'm sure they would work too.

Since, I am a single mom on disability (waiting for my book to make me some $$$) but right now I am so thankful that I found him to get the best braces at the best price. Hope this helps you!!!
