I just found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago, I'm not sure how far along I am, yet. This little one was a definate surprise :) My question is, my skin has been soo broken out I don't know what to do. I am using proactiv and it doesn't seem to be helping. When I'm not pregnant I have combination skin but it's driving my crazy to even look in the mirror!! My skin seems soo oily and I'm getting tons of breakouts! Any natural but SAFE cures or remedies you know of??

What can I do next?

I use apple cider vin.! I use it after I wash my face-and if I have a "spot" I hold a cotton ball soaked on it for a min or so several times a day.

Well, they say that acne creams are potentially harmful during pregnancy just because they don't know what they can do. However, I've always had an issue with acne and I'm pregnant with my fourth child. I've never taken anything orally for my acne during pregnancy, but I've used topical creams such as Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Tazarac, Retin-A, etc.

I'll tell you what is working for me right now because sounds like my skin type and situation is similar to yours.

I have combination skin, which is more oily in the summer time. My skin can handle the above topical creams pretty well without drying out (unlike most people). However, I was using Proactiv around the time I got pregnant and after about 8 weeks my skin was so dry from it (yet oily at the same time) that it was making my skin break out worse! I decided to try that Skin ID. Have you heard of that? I think the website is skinid.com and you take a little quiz and they create a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc. just for your skin type. My set has salicylic acid in the wash and toner, and benzoyl peroxide in another topical cream, plus I have a little sample bottle of acne cream that has salicylic acid that they included, AND a moisturizer with SPF made for my oily/combo skin so it's not greasy. It cost around the same as Proactive and it's been great on my skin! I've been using it for about a month now.

Another thing for the oilyness that I've found is this stuff from Avon. I'm not a big fan of Avon's makeup/facial creams, but this stuff really does work. It's called Magix. Get the white cream (not the tinted, for some reason they don't work the same) and you apply before your makeup in the morning. It feels real good on your skin and keeps the shine away during the day! It's like around $10.

But, like I said, I've used all sorts of topical creams during my pregnancies and all of my kids are real healthy.

I know how terrible acne can be, especially when you're pregnant and already hormonal! LOL. Hope this info helps!

I started out my pregnancy very similar and was using Aveda products and assumed that it didn't have salicylic acid but geez almost everything out there has it, you really have to be careful, I think proactive probably has it and this ingredient has been known to cause miscarriage or birth defects (sorry I don't mean to scare you):

I was able to find an AMAZING product, some of the maternity stores carry it sometimes, but I would just order it online:

http://www.doulashop.com/products/pregnancy-body-care/bel...

I know its not cheap but it worked wonders, not only is it natural and specifically designed for use in pregancy but it cleared my face up completely - my skin NEVER looked so good!!!

I hope this helps you!!!

Gycolic acid is the only memeber of the Alpha Hydroxy acid family safe for use in pregnancey. But natural is always better so i would try good old fashioned egg white mask. Apply peel when dry. You can also do a honey mask with real honey.

It will end after your first trimester. My skin was horrible during those first 3 months and just ended once I entered my 2nd trimester. I could not figure out anything to help, and my forehead was nothing but little bumps.

Hi Barndy! Congratulations on your little surprise! I know your little one will bring you much joy!! :)

There is a company called USANA HEALTH SCIENCES (Based in Salt Lake City, Utah). I learned about it just over 6 years ago. They have Nutritional supplements and Skin Care that are both of the highest quality. The nutritionals are listed in the Physicians Desk Reference, so your Dr. can look them up in his book. They are actually more potent than a presciption prenatal vitamin! Dr Wentz, the founder of the company, used to own Gull Laboratories where he developed disease test kits that are used in hospitals worldwide today (for instance, the Epstein Barr Virus test kit that detects Mono, and about 30 others!) He changed his focus from disease detection to disease prevention after his mom died from breast cancer and his dad from heart disease. Because he grows live human cells in his lab, he knows what it takes to keep them alive and healthy. He has developed a nutritional line that is rated the top in North America for potency and purity, and he has just recieved the Albert Einstein award for his expertise in the Life Sciences!! Many olympian and professional athletes use them because there is a 1 million dollar gaurantee that they wont be tested positive for any unknown substance.

The skin care also is of highest quality. It is recommended by many dermatologists. It is all chemical preservative and paraben free! I have (had) oily skin all my life, however after using these products, my skin is balanced. At the end of the day, it is neither dry nor oily. When we put something on our skin, it only takes 10 minutes to absorb into the bloodstream so its important to use products that are chemical free (especially during pregnancy!) I do have 1 week samples if you would like to try it. Just let me know! You can also check it all out on the website!!

I'm so thankful that I was told about this company. My husband and I and our 3 children use them faithfully every day!! My testimony is too long to write here so I wont do that! :) I feel so blessed to have found these products!!

I hope all goes well with your preganacy! Take care!

DON'T USE PROACTIVE WHEN YOU ARE PREGNANT!!!!!! UNFORTUNATELY, YOU HAVE TO SUFFER THROUGH. By-the-way, you are probably having another girl.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I broke out a lot. When I was pregant with my son--no acne. Normally I rarely have acne. Must be the extra hormones! I used tea tree oil soap and tea tree oil (put a dab on each pimple). Fortunately, when the pregnancy was over, so was the acne.

Do not use Proactiv! In fact, you are not suppose to use anything with acylic acid (not sure if I spelled that right). It's the stuff found in over the counter stuff like Clearasil.

Good luck.

My acne got worse during pregnancy as well and I discovered that it was from dairy products. So I quit the ice cream, cheese etc and my face was soooo much better. It also effected my morning sickness. My sister was the same way. I noticed that another person listed a website for diet info...I would check that out because your diet is so important right now. Good luck.

It sounds like it is hornamal so I would use some progresterone cream. It should help you with some of the other simtomes of pregnacy as well. It was very benifical to be in both of my pregnacys. You should be able to buy it at a health food store. Or the other thing you could try is homeopathic acne gel. Homepathics are wounderfull and will not harm you or your baby.

Severe breakouts happened with my last pregnancy. It was so bad that I looked like a boxer that was all beat up. It was horrible and extremely painful. The cure? Talk to your OB/GYN. My OB/GYN had me use Metro-gel. It worked great and my skin has been fairly clear since, with the exception of the very mild 1 or 2 pimples I get monthly. AND, my baby was not effected. She was born without difficulty and was very healthy. :) Good luck.

Go to origins.com or into Macy's to the Origins counter and pick up the face wash Checks and Balances. All of Origin's products are plant based so they are really safe; no animal products or anything so no animal fat (like you'd find in cover girl makeups)

Good luck and mazel tov on the incoming baby.

I have not tried this myself but one of my friends sues olive oil. she will but olive oil on her face then take a wash cloth that has been soaked in hot water and rung out over her face until it cools down, then wet it again adn repeat for several minutes. This will get rid of the oil and will help bring blood up to the surface to clean out the pores. The olive oil is also good for the skin bc of the nutrients and omegas. I have used olive oil on rashs and it has worked wonders. Hope this helps. Oh my friend also has really oily skin and after this treatment it was smooth and soft and not oily at all.
