Anyone Have a Transvaginal Ultrasound Done?

It is my second pregnancy and the OBGYN wants to do a Transvaginal Ultrasound. We have different insurance from the first baby and they do things differently. I never had this done before and have never heard of it prior to today. Has anyone had one? Is there any pain?

What can I do next?

When I first found out I was preg, they did a transvaginal ultrasound - said it was better at 'finding' the babies. I wouldn't worry about it, I have no idea why one type of ultra sound would be preferred over the other, but I had them both and both were fine. If you concerned, talk to you doc and find out what the difference is.

I had something called a vaginal ultrasound... they have a long ultrasound wand they insert and take the ultrasound from there. It was not at all painful or invasive. If that's the same as a transvaginal ultrasound, nothing to worry about. Good luck. and congratulations!

This is how they often confirm that the baby is there and forming early on when a regular ultra sound would not see anything. It does not hurt at all.

Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy! No biggie. Just try not to laugh when they put the condom on it! lol

It is uncomfortable but not painful. You stick a tampon like instrument up your vagina and they move it around. then they do a regular ultrasound. they will not do it if you have had any bleeding. I know several moms that have opted out of this particular test and just done the regular ultrasound part.

I've had 3. I had some embarrassment about it, but no physical discomfort except once - for that one, I wasn't pregnany but I had an ovarian cyst and the technician pressed against it and that hurt like hell. In pregancy, no pain and I got to see the baby's heartbeat!!

Yes, I've had it done this year, and it was no big deal pain-wise, but a little messy with the lube stuff they use. Don't wear your favorite panties! :) I have to get another one now (hysterosonogram) which sounds more painful. But this one is really easy and painless, in my experience. Good luck!!

I was a high risk pregnancy thru both of mine, so I had several done each time. Easy, quick and painless - looks like they are putting a condom on a curling iron and lubing it up and sliding it in! :)

If you are having an ultrasound really early on this is the method that is used. Otherwise, its just too early to see the baby. I have had one done with my 1st pregnancy at 6 weeks or so. I didn't get my 1st ultrasound with #2 until 12.5 weeks along, and by then I was far along enough to not have the vaginal one done. No, theres no pain involved, in fact, its even easier on you than a pap.

I've had quite a few of them done. There is no pain just pressure. They use a wand with length to insert into your vagina and look at things just as if you were having one done on your stomach. You get the goopy mess down there instead of on my your stomach but all in all it's the same exact thing except this version can give better views of things.

I have had a couple. You have to have an uncomfortably full bladder for them to see your uterus, so don't ignore the amount of water you have to drink. You actually have to drink an ungodly amount of water.

It isn't bad or anything to be afraid of. They insert a "wand" into your vagina. It's about the size of, er, your husband (or the average husband, lol) and they get a picture of your uterus/ ovaries.

I'm assuming it is very early in your preg? Or perhaps it has something to do wtih the angle?

It's not something to worry about.

I had one or two early on in my pregnancy. No biggie. It is just a way to check on baby early before a traditional u/s can be done. Insurance should cover it. Good luck.

I have had one & it was strange putting the wand up there & then having a tech hold it so it didn't move. They will ask you to insert it so they don't hurt you putting it in. No it wasn't painful, just uncomfortable (like most ultrasounds).
God bless!

Doesn't hurt anymore than sex does. I always made the joke about it being expensive and not vibrating. :)

I have had it done plus I worked for 11 years in medical imaging. This is a very common test. It's usually done early in pregnancy and gives the dr very good images to be sure all is going well. It doesn't hurt at all. Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I have had several Transvaginal ultrasounds. They do not hurt and are not a big deal. My husband has even been in the room when I had them done. Don't worry, you will not even really notice they are doing it.

I have had one several times. No biggie. They just stick that wand up there and look at your baby. There is no pain... or at least there wasn't with me.
