Anyone Else Have Stomach Flu/virus?

My 22-month-old daughter came down with a stomach virus on Saturday and has been vomiting and has had diarrhea for the past few days. She is finally beginning to show signs of improvement. Then my husband and I began vomiting last night. Does anyone know of a stomach flu or virus going around or was it something we all ate? I can't think of anything that would make us sick. My husband thinks we should throw out all the food in the refrigerator and anything in the freezer that we ate in the past couple of days. Is it necessary to throw everything out? Thanks in advance for any input.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for your input! My little girl is feeling much better now. She has finally stopped vomiting and has only diarrhea at this point. My husband and I are on the road to recovery as well. As for the food in our fridge, I woke up this morning after vomiting and sleeping most of the day yesterday and found that he had already thrown out the food. Oh well! What can you do? Thanks for the confirmation that there is a stomach bug going around. By the way, I live in Wichita. I hope we'll all be 100% by this weekend as we are expecting family to arrive for a visit. Happy Holidays to you all!

I feel for you. Tis the season for the stomach and flu bugs, though so don't worry about it too much unless it goes on for a week or more. As for throwing everything out of the refrigarator tell your husband that he is just a normal male and to quit being paranoid. LOL. Sounds about right for men though. E-mail me anytime: ____@____.com. please keep me posted.

My husband and 3month old both had stomach flu. We had to take my daughter to the hospital for it. The nurses at the hospital said there have been a lot of people in with the stomach flu.

My 9yr old came down with it Sat. night. Had it until Mon. am
Thought maybe she got it from tainted icecream at baskin robbins?....No body else in our family has had it so far. She couldnt even keep small amounts of water down until monday. She still has stomach cramps today. No fever or diarrhea. I have also been spraying everything down with lysol. Praying my 2.5 yr old doesn't get it!
Good luck to all with this! my heart goes out to you!

Most of the people who work in the same department at my husband's work (Sprint) have been down with a stomach bug. So far our family has escaped. When I was at the doctor's office last week with my migraine, there were quite a few people in with stomach problems or colds.

So I wouldn't throw out all the food considering how many people have been hit with the stomach bug unless you honestly think something was left out or improperly cooked.

Get well soon!

My boys and I had that last month. My oldest and I both ended up with IVs for severe dehydration. I was the worst; I was just a few hours away from organ failure. The nurse said my blood was like glue.
Both my boys got it, then seemed to get better, then got slammed even worse. And little kids get dehydrated so fast; if you even suspect that she's not keeping enough down, get her to her dr for a blood check. It took two days of IVs for my oldest to get rehydrated. It's not something to play around with.
I think your food should be safe, tho. No need to waste the grocery budget. :) I send sincere hopes for a speedy recovery for all of you!

Dear M., i'm so sorry to say this but I think you do have the stomach flu. When it gets in our family (we have 6 kids), which it did a couple of years ago it was spreading like wildfire and we were dropping like flies. I have heard that it is going around now (we live in Topeka, KS.) and my son's preschool teacher was out just this week with it. I had it last Jan. and was able to keep it confined to just myself, thank god! My advice would be to get lots of rest anyway you can and start SLOWLY after you haven't thrown up for a few hours, my rule is 4-6 and when the thought of food doesn't sicken you, and a couple of teaspoons of water and build up from there. i usually try to stay out of the public with the kids as much as possible this time of year until about March, it really does help. And washing hands too!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

There is a virus going around. Both of my kids came down with it and so did I. It lasts from 7 to 10 days if you have a bad case of it. It is awful! Just keep pushing the fluids and keep in touch with your doctor to see what they suggest. Good Luck!

My 5 yr old son had the stomach bug for 10-12 days right around Thanksgiving. It was horrible, anything he ate would come right back out! :( I kept calling his dr trying to figure out what to do, but said it has to run its course.... it finally did, the crazy thing w/ his was that no one else in our house got it! Thank god for that! I felt so bad for him, but just keep pushing fluids and making sure dehydration doesnt happen!

Well, bad news. I was working in the ER at Hillcrest and a friend of mine works admitting at Southcrest. The flu began a few weeks ago. In fact I know the girl and her husband who were the first flu cases in Tulsa and that was at the beginning of November. My 11 month old had a stomach virus on Friday night and now she has stopped throwing up but now she has a terrible cold. Your little one is a little old, but watch out the Doc at St. Johns was telling me there is a lot of gastrointestinal garbage was going around along with the flu and RSV was out with vengence! So everyone watch your little ones!!!!

So, don't throw away all of your food! Just let "nature" runs its course and drink lots of clear fluids!

Hey M.!! You definately have the flu!! My little 7 month daughter got hospitialized due to it. The next day when she came home her older sister got it, and about 5 hours later I was sick. My husband and my oldest child have not gotten it. Drinks lots of gatorade (for the electrolytes), and have lots of popsicles, crackers, broth, chicken noodle soup, etc... on hand. I was drinking water and I couldn't keep it down. My doctor told me since I am dehydrated that I needed electrolytes. I hope this helps you. It was really bad on my and my two girls. We recooperated in about 48 hours. Good luck.

It seems like viruses are always going around, and many of them can manifest as vomiting and diahhrea. Since you didn't all have the symptoms at the same time, it seems like it's probably not something you ate, but I'd call your dr. or your daughter's and describe the situation to them just in case. It probably just has to run its course for you and your husband. In the meantime, stay really well hydrated. Good luck!

It's totally going around; don't throw your food away. If it were the food, you'd probably all get sick at the same time.

I'm wondering where you live. My stepdad came down with a stomache ache and diarrhea (sp?) the other day. Then my sister did and then her husband. Then me. The kids were fine, though. We found out that we'd been under a boil order and didn't know it. Thankfully the boys had been drinking more milk than diluted juice, and we think that's why they didn't get sick. We live in Riverton, by the way. Just a thought.

I had the flu about two weeks ago, and it went around our church before I got it. I dont't think it is something you ate...if it was you would have all been sick within probably 12 hours or so. Just my opinion though. Best of luck. Call your doctor...I think there is something you can take for the flu if you catch the symptoms soon enough. C.

I would guess that your daughter had some sort of virus and you and your hubby caught it as well. A few weeks ago my daughter had an awful virus, she had diarreah continuously for 4 days and vomitted once. I got it on the third day b/c I was the one cleaning her and everything else up. I hope you guys feel better soon!
