Anyone Else Have a Son with an Undescended Testicle?

Hi Moms,
We learned yesterday that our son will need surgery to "correct" his undescended testicle. Has anyone gone through the surgery? What was the recovery time like? How did your son handle it? My son is 4 and it scares me a little to think about him going under for surgery!

Thanks!
Happy Holidays,
L.

My 53 yr old husband had an undescended testicle. I wish they had done the surgery for him years ago. I remember they didn't think he would be able to have children; well, we did!
Just in 2001, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had surgery to remove one. Well, even at that age it really wasn't a difficult surgery for him! I am only sharing all this 'cuz I want to make sure your son gets checked frequently throughout his years. My husband is fine now.

My son was born with 2 undescended testes and had surgery at 7mos. to correct the problem. Of course it is difficult as a parent, but it was day surgery and after a few groggy hours at home he seemed perfectly fine. We had a prescription for tylenol with codeine and we only gave it to him once. I am surprised that being 4 your son didn't have it done sooner, but I am not the Dr. so I'm sure there was a good reason to wait. My son was back to himself the next morning and I'm sure yours will be too. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Hello L., My son had an undescended testicle and had it repaired when he was 6 months old. I don't know if they would have done it that early but he also had a hernia and needed tubes in his ears. So they were going in that area anyway. The recovery was very easy. My son has had 7 surgeries and that has to be the easiest out of all of them. Don't worry about it and it will all be ok, Good Luck!!

So my experience is with a boy I nannied for. They found his undescended testicle at an older age, I want to say around seven. The advice they got was to wait it out and it did come down on it's own. I didn't even realize surgery could have been an option. Physical therapy? LOL

So my advice is to maybe seek a second opinion because if it is possible for it to desend on it's own with time, that to me would be a better option.

Good luck!
