So I am 7 1/2 weeks prego with baby #2 and have been having this tight/contraction like feeling in my lower abdomen since yesterday morning. Is this normal with 2,3,4 pregnancies? I'm on the verge of freaking out but don't know if it is something to worry about or not. I have upped my water intake and am peeing frequently. Just wondering mommas. Thanks for any suggestions, comments, and advice.

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for all the good advice. I went to the dr today and he did an ultrasound and couldn't find anything wrong with anything. He actually gave me great news. The baby has a heart beat and is growing well. He said since the baby has a heartbeat my chances of miscarrying are greatly reduced to about 1%. That made me feel much better and he advised me that second, third, fourth pregnancies are always more uncomfortable and that woman experience these weird pains all the time and that it's completely normal to be concerned. He was glad I came in and the other good news was that the cyst I had on my ovary has gone away so that's more good news:) It was a good day. i got to see my little bean. (Whom I swear is a boy:))

I freaked out with my second pregnancy, I was feeling all sorts of weird cramps and pain. My doc said it was very common to feel more the second (and subsequent) time around. Nothing inside me seemed like it wanted to stretch and was putting up a good fight against it. My bet is that everything is normal with you. Good luck, try not to freak out too much:)

I could be contractions or it could be your body adjusting to the new levels of hormones. Vaginal infections can also cause these types of symptoms. Good job on increasing your water intake, as dehydration can cause contractions. Be on the look out for (and you might want to go see your healthcare provider if) you have tightenings that occur every ten minutes or more and increase in intensity and frequency. Other symptoms may include a back ache, a menstrual cramp feeling, pressure, pain in the pelvis, vaginal discharge, leaking of fluid, dilation, and / or effacement.

Not sure if this is the same pain you are talking about but when I was pregnant, I had pretty uncomfortable pain in my pelvic area. When I asked my OB about it and described it as a stretching and pulling feeling, she told me and was also able to show me a small connective tissue/ligament on the uterus stretching as the weight and the size of the uterus grew, which she stressed was NOTHING to worry about. Ask your OB about it at your first appointment.
Good Luck!

Call your OBGYN, that is the only person you should be asking about any pain in pregnancy. I am sure it is normal and the other posts seem to understand what you are talking about, but in pregnancy call your Dr first and foremost.

I started contracting about 20 weeks along and it continued throughout my pregnancy. All I had to do to start the contractions was bend over. My aunt said that the my-stomach-is-as-hard-as-a-rock contractions are normal, but they can last for hours. I tried to sit down and relax because the baby would kick less when I had these kind of contractions, but they never were the unpleasant kind of contractions that I remember having when I was in labor with baby #2. Hope that helps.

I'd talk to your doc if your only seven and a half weeks pregnant and are contracting. You want to rule out a miscarriage.

I'm guessing that you'll be going to the OB for the first time at 8 weeks. (Thats when mine always wanted me to come in first - they can at least see the embryo on the in-office ultr a sound machine). Tell him about your concerns. He should be able to rule out infections or an ectopic pregnancy. Chances are it isnt anything.

I had mild pelvic discomfort (mostly a stretching/pulling feeling) for my second and third pregnancies. It never really got sever, and it was just the connective tissue stretching as the weight of the uterus grew. But I asked my doctor about it regularly and he could quickly make sure it wasn't any other problem at my regular checkups.

Congratulations on the new soon addition to your family!

Call, or go see your doctor. Don't worry about being a hypochondriac. My first pregnancy, I felt these odd contractions and came to my own conclusion that they were just Braxton Hicks. I didn't want to seem overly cautious. My water ended up breaking and I delivered at 21 weeks.

My guess is that it is just the muscles are stretching out, which the tend to do earlier with pregnancies two on.

I had that with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. My midwife just said if it was 4 or more in an hours time, to slow down and drink more water. That always decreased the "contractions", however I did have it all the way through both of those pregnancies. Both babies were term. The "real" contractions always were more intense. I wouldn't worry, but I would suggest you let your Dr. or midwife know.

What I was told when I was pregnant with baby #2 last year, is that you feel a lot more things. I believe what you are feeling is normal, but if the pains become a lot more frequent and more painful call your doctor immediately. Congrats on baby #2.

I had a similiar experience but it only lasted for a couple hours on and off. I freaked out since I had miscarried the first time. I called the nurse and they told me to drink lots of water and lift my feet up.
Eventually they went away.

This tightening of your uterous is just to protect your baby. Do you notice this happening when you are moving (getting up--sitting down--lifting laundry) things that are normal but a little strenuous. Sice your uterus has been stretched once it is a little more loose , and needs a little more support. Just take it slow and ask for help. It is not worth risking any ones health. Good luck and god bless

My Braxton-Hicks contractions started about that early with my second as well. I also noticed the baby moving earlier too - lots of fun! I would mention in to your doctor just in case; it's okay to be extra cautious when you're pregnant. But it's probably nothing to worry about.

good advice from candice. I only had one but I had a tight contraction feeling in my lower abdomen early on and it was my uterus stretching. freaked me out but turned out it was just cramping from the growth needed in my body--do follow up if you are concerned, it is always better to be safe than sorry you know? peace of mind for a pregnant woman is hard to come by anyway, the doctors are used to our needing reassurances and if you have a good one they will never tell you that you shouldn't have called.
